Im having issues with yriel yellow.
Thinned or not it never seems to look right and it dries with visible streaks through it.
Anyone have any idea if im doing anything wrong or is this just how this paint is

You'll find this issue with most brands and particular colours, some yellows like our INSTAR Brilliant Yellow cover better than others.

It's mostly down to the type of pigment used rather than how well it is mixed.

Best thing to do in these situations is thin less but be prepared to put on more coats then you originally would, in the end you'll get the coverage you want, just might take 4 or 5 coats rather than 2 or 3.

What colour are you painting it over? I find if you have a good basecoat of white (aka use Ceremite White first), you'll have much better results. I'll quote good ole' Duncan though and mention that multiple thin coats of both the white and the yellow will be more effective than just 1+ thick ones.

It's better to take the time while you're painting it to make it look good than to try to rush through it and be unhappy with it later on.

I try to build yellows up from light browns. For my bad moon killa kans I started from Tau Ochre, for the hazard stripes on my iron warriors xv-88. I find that helps get to a more natural yellow colour.

I had a really good experience by using celestra gray as a base and yriel yellow as a coat, then washing it with Reikland, but I was going for an industrial theme and weathering effect. Still, it works quite good, and it's not as start as yriel on ceramite.

Yriel yellow is semi-transparent, so it will always show some of the color inder it.

I'd avoid a grey undercoat for yellow, since the grey may change the yellow tone. White for a very shiny yellow or a light brown for a richer darker tone.

Someone told me there is a ki d of yellow or orange color that GW sells than does wonders as base before Yriel yellow.

But i can't remember the exact name.

I may suggest try some very pale green as base as the color scale moves from green to yellow so maybe the final effect it's akin to your tastes.

Averland Sunset is GW’s base coat yellow. It can cover Russ Grey in two or three thin coats, and should provide a great base for Yriel yellow. (GW says it is in their app)

A spray of Averland Sunset will give you a perfect yellow base in one thin coat, with the black/white/brown undercoating being optional too. Makes painting Imperial Fists (and Irowjawz) about 10x faster.

As others said, any kind of ochre will give you the best base colour for the yellow.

I've always used a bone colour, in my case VMC Dark Sand, for a base under those paints that refuse to get good coverage. Wild Rider Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, Yellows, Whites (not Ceramite), they've all been a right pain in the ass to work with, but that near-white for some reason coats smoothly, and then serves as a great base under those stubborn colours.
