Doing the drilling on my Goliaths and realized I'm not entirely sure about how to do their barrels. Stubguns / stubbers are easy enough - small caliber hole, because they're shooting things like .45, 9mm, .30, etc. - basically what bit fit well on the shotgun bit without obliterating the barrel, ha!

Heavy stubbers I use a bit that's a bit smaller than the one I use for the heavy bolter, because in theory-ish it's someting like .50 vs the heavy bolter's .75.

But Stub cannon? Is that just the rifle version of a stub gun - i.e. nearly an autogun? Is it a large caliber firearm, like .50 Beowulf or something?

Ideas? How do you do those?

Thanks!

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

It's a massive long-barreled hand cannon (and my fav new weapon in 40K). It would be of a significantly higher caliber than the regular Stubgun.

If you're hollowing it out, make it a big hole.

I just drill a large hole because the barrel is made larger on the model.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

The problem I have with the stub weapons is the "hole" should be off-centre if you're looking at the whatsitcalled-bullet-rotatey-thing, at the top of what appears to be the barrel but is really a sheathe. They look much better on the concept art where the actual barrel protrudes slightly from the front.

The cylinder and the barrel/muzzle of the stub cannon are clearly entirely different scales. I mean, that's actually true of the stub gun and combi-plasma-stubber on the Goliath sprue as well, but it's massively more obvious with the stub cannon. GW unfortunately have no idea at all how real weapons work.

The Underhive rulebook explicitly states stub cannons fire "massive, high calibre rounds", so I'm drilling out the barrels of mine with a 1.8mm bit (I normally use 1mm for bolters) and just trying to ignore the undersized cylinders. I think that looks better than putting tiny little holes in the end of the huge barrel.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

Actually they aren't - if you look at the artwork of gangers through the book, you'll see the actual barrel on Stubguns protrudes out slightly and is appropriately scaled for the chamber, they just inexplicably decided not to bother adding that detail to the actual miniatures.

Hm, that's an interesting bit I did not pick up on - sounds like I may just add a barrel onto mine!

Between the Underhive rulebook and GW1, I can find only one example of what you describe (rulebook page 85 where 'Shiner' Kort is pointing a stubber at the viewer). There's no indication in any of the other depictions of stub weapons of any such inner barrel.

And it was specifically the miniatures I was talking about, anyway.

Cut a thin slice of styrene tube and glue to the front. Hey presto: matches the art and saves on drilling!

I have only found metal tube around these parts. But, regardless of material I always still drill so I can mount them in stable.
