The Darkshroud speeder and the plasma variant are good concepts, but I REALLY hate the model. I just can't get past that silly nose-gunner position. I was thinking of a way to come up with my own design. What would you think about starting with one of those scout transport Speeder, and just using the transport area as a place to either mount a large Shield Generator, or possibly a plasma turret of some kind?

Why not just a Typhoon with the plasma cannons in place of the missiles?

The Darkshroud is a terrible model. Yuck. It looks like two speeders stuck hastily together and then dipped in a Dark Angels bits box. I think the Storm would be a good base for a converted alternative. If you built a field generator looking thingy in the open space behind the driver, and then added some radar dish/antenna type accessories I think you'd be off to a good start.

I found a bit from the center of the Drop pod that looks like the basis for a convincing Field Generator. Radar dishes are a good idea.

I enclosed the cockpit on mine and added a roof turret.

@ Flinty - you planning on adding vision slits to that (like the Tempest from FW)? Nice work. I much prefer the underslung HW to that silly node gunner shenanigans too.

My old typhoon.

(My sister's Rottie chewed on the original, so the front half was rebuilt from LEGO.)

It was from my "Star Wars" themed 501st chapter from about 5-6 years ago. Hence the trifoil wing configuration.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Thanks. For me, The nose mount is pretty fundamental to the identity of a land speeder. I wasn't going to add a slit. Marines have auto senses built into their little suits. I'm assuming that they can easily sensor up an anti gravity vehicle such that they don't need to rely on the good old mk1 eyeball

Yeah, I think the slits on GW Marine models is more about filling empty flat space on the model than it is accurate in-game science and technology. You could add any kind of detail mind you. Those little angled senor suite looking bitz from the Rhinos kit would work too. Like your version for the plasma, as you've done, but I think something else would be needed for the Shroud.

They don't have senses that can see through hard surfaces last I knew, but hey it's your model. An alternative idea would be to paint it like a tinted canopy so it has the enclosed look but still has a pilot vision situation.

The sensors are on the land speeder feeding into the pilots helmet. So they can in effect look through hard surfaces from inside Or indeed paint the thing as glazed in some way.

Regarding the Shroud, I think it's a tricksy one to get the right level of "containing relic of ancient power" versus the stupidity of "hey we strapped a frikkin load of masonry statuary to our light utility skimmer". Maybe just fit an Ark of the Covenant into a Storm tied down with bungee cords...

So you're saying use the stock model as-is?

Is the storm actually large enough? If I recall, the Darkshroud is a larger design in most dimensions, so it might need some stretching to be resonably sized. Not so hard with some surgery and a little styrene, but something to consider.
