The first game was okay, could have used some more support to clean up the overall gameplay and balance but It was fun and with some really nice cutscenes.
The campaign quickly became kind of dull but as a concept it is fantastic, if they evolve that idea and give the player more impact on it ill be interested again!
Gotta be honest though, at first my mind blew as I thought this was about the tabletop game.

First game was awesome. It seemed like multiplayer died fast as everyone waited forever on the Tau and Space Marines.
Really hoping this one is at least as good.

Didn't GW already announce they plan on remaking Battlefleet Gothic some day?
Anyways, this news is awesome!
I honestly thought they'd dropped this series totally after support for the previous game dried up!
And what can we see - Dark Eldar - Necrons - Tyranid and that looks like the admech side of the Imperium too.
@MadMuzza a few questions
1) We don't see many if any of the original core games fleets in this ; are they going to do something similar to what CA have done with Warhammer Total War or is this game fully stand alone with new factions and fleets.
2) How are they changing the fleet size. In the original game one downside (in my view) was each time you unlocked a new tier of ships and a higher points cost you tended to also then get new ships that filled up those points very fast. In general this meant that your fleet never really grew in size during battles. Are they going to try and bring in more ships so that instead of perhaps 5 a side we might have far more?
3) An addition to point 2, if they are not going to increase the number of ships are they going to increase tactical depth of the game?
In short are we going to see Homeworld or Nexus Jupiter Incident?
4) How are they going to handle skirmish - will it be the same "play to unlock" approach or will we see that constrained to the campaign only?
5) How many campaigns and if there is more than one how is the variety of content. A single story scripted campaign - free choice campaign - multiple faction stories or multipel factions with the same basic missions and story (aka how Retribution did it).
6) Visually speaking how is the engine going to change; will we see higher detail ships; more zoom capacity; etc..? Or is it the same engine refined a bit here and there?

I thought Forgeworld was doing it but had increased the physical size of the ships? Or am I mixing that up with Epic40K rumour returns?

It will include, at launch, all 12 factions from the original tabletop game and its expansion Armada it is based on: the Imperial Navy, Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, Chaos, Aeldari Corsairs, Aeldari Craftworld, Drukhari, the T’au Merchant and Protector Fleets, Orks, and finally, the Tyranids.
That's a very ambitious number of factions to launch with! I wonder if TW Warhammer hasn't broken the old " two/three faction launch" that has dominated RTS style games for decades. Ergo proving that spending time and money adding more factions (esp when its based off a powerful IP) is worth it in the long run.

I wonder if they are making all the base factions so they can create new ships for BFG, there'd be no point to moving onto the 'modern day' 40k if they didn't plan to add things.
The cutscenes of the first game where some of the best cutscenes of any Warhammer 40k game (The Exterminatus one was in par with the Dawn of War 2's one. The devs surely know the universe)
I'm very happy about this.
Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Yo!
The original game had a lot of people asking for the ability to customize fleet colours, though it was clear this wasn't something they had considered when developing the engine. Eventually a patch did come out that allowed players to pick from a set of cannon colour schemes for their fleet, but will BFGA2 allow players to customize their fleet colours themselves?

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

This made me wonder, will there be lore stuff in the game that is not avalible any other place?
I'll hope so. The campaing in the first one, the part relevant to the story not the gameplay, was incredible. As everything, just like the attack of Baal by the Tyranids, this kind of story-arcs are "bad" as long as you don't flesh them out. The siegue of Baal was horrible in that small text , but the novel did actually a good job to explain the event in a way that was satisfactory to everyone.

On the one hand, there's enough fleet action in the Gathering Storm to make up a full campaign's story, but it wouldn't work in the more open campaign map system the first game had.
On the other hand, getting gradually whittled down fighting over Cadia only to have the Phalanx show up would be pretty sick.
Still enjoy the odd game of BFG online. Really enjoyed it.
Looks like they actually have a female voice actress so we might get some female captains for Imperials (various), Chaos and Elder(both and Tau - huzzah.
Madmuzza - can you ask them this - thanks!
I wonder if any of the backers of Armada 1 will get anything - be nice Another question would be good to ask?
Ad Mech ships - awesome.

The first one died pretty fast. Surprised it paid off enough to get a new one with even more races. I wonder if this time it will be different.

I got the original game, but wasn't really a fan. It seemed good though, but I think for me i'm just not that good at RTS style games and I found it to be way too hard for me to master. I think I would have preferred an X-Com style turn based game.
Are they going to fix the UI problem with trying to aim torpedoes/pulsars by telling a pathfinding AI to attempt to move to a point by whatever wobbly path it feels like that day?
Assuming that's supposed to be the fall of Cadia, that is NOT how the Blackstone is described as crashing into the planet.

How big do they think a Cairn class is..? Either that's one tiny tombship, or that's by far the largest Tyranid ship-organism ever depicted by several orders of magnitude.

A proper Warhammer40k's X-com game is my dream... like Chaos Gate but modern!

Most Necron ships are described as being rather small in comparison to other factions' ships. Necrons have nothing to compensate for.
