We exploded onto the miniatures scene in 2015 (following years of trading as The Dice Bag Lady) with Viking shieldmaidens. Since then we have released a huge amount of miniatures from WW2, Feudal Japan, Fantasy, Sci Fi and more. This is a return to our roots in a grand and dramatic way. Something we haven’t offered (up until now) is the option to build an entire army. You want a whole army of kick arse shieldmaidens? Well, hello. These are suitable for both Dark Ages and Fantasy wargaming, with some of the units and characters also being versatile for a whole number of uses. The core troops are historical dark age (but cool and interesting enough to be used with fantasy) with a mythological twist with some of the characters. All the crazy stuff is rooted in Norse Mythology.

And following Bad Squiddo tradition - yes we have some adorable critters!

I take it these are sized to fit with actually-28mm historical figures rather than the more loosely-"28mm" used by Well Known Fantasy Manufacturers?

I'm backing for the 4 point Saga warband. I've already got 6 points of vikings, but more angry Scandinavians wielding sharp objects is always a good thing.

Yep they're made to fit in with existing dark age chaps! I'll be putting some side by side comparison photos up later in the week.

these are looking like they might fit nicely with GW's LOTR/Hobbit line (which Is great for RPG) could use some pc/npc female northmen,.

the king of kings - they'd look great but only if you used either or, I don't think my shieldmaidens and the 25mm GW would fit too great alongside each other, though I haven't seen them for a while, I remember them seeming pretty small.

Oh yes there is a Lagertha, I have a range of existing shieldmaidens, which are available as add-ons.

What size base are you using on the larger bears and moose, Annie? I assume the bear cubs are on 25mm or 30mm bases?

Are the two moose on one base both younger animals, or are we looking at a juvenile and a female (and, if so, how well do they work on individual bases)?

It's Papa Moose, Mama Moose and Baby Moose! I think it's 60mm for the pair and 40mm for the papa, I will check! They fit on normal cavalry bases just fine. Baby bears are on 25mm. I put a size comparison below to show you:

Mjölkhare!

Phil has scupted the mjölkhare! Eeee!
What a nasty beast hey! The mjölkhare is made by a witch out of hair, bones, butter, mud, earwax, blood, yarn, cloth and all other sorts of gross! She sends it out to steal or spoil the milk (a valuable resource!). I can't wait to see this painted, it's very "zombie like". The hare isn't unlocked yet, but it is ready for you!

Paul Sanderson has done a top job on these. The poor chap can finally sleep now, he's been non stop painting shieldmaidens since before Christmas. He'll be working on the stand at Vapnartak on Sunday, make sure to shake his hand or let him have a sup of your beer!


Even though we're display painting everything in dark ages colours, we got Em from Electric Eve to paint one up in fantasy style to give you an idea of how cool they can look like in a Frostgrave, Kings or War, Mordheim, Dragon Rampant... army or warband or whatnot. I love it!

Just a little bump today, Paul had a go at painting a tattoo on the back of the baldie shieldmaiden and it looks FANTASTIC!



And I'm heading to York tomorrow to Vapnartak, so I hope to see a load of you there!

The berserkers and Freyja are pretty great. This line overall is very characterful without going over the top. I'm impressed.

They're not for me because of the scale, but I'm really glad this KS is going well for you guys.

Freyja on boar is amazing. I wish you had more resin pieces. May have to make an exception for the Rescuing Shieldmaiden, as that will mean something to one of my in laws.

Freya looks great on foot and mounted. I can't wait to have them in hand.

As promised, I have better photos for you! Freyja, Mister Pig, and the new cats and doggos arrived today. All amazing.

Freyja - well, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. John Morris (who painted the Valkyrie, Hel, and a load others from our range such as the Onna-bugeisha) will be getting an email soon saying "hey, wanna paint this!" All sculpted by Alan Marsh, please give that man a million high fives and claps. I couldn't have done this without him. He's done most the sculpting on this project and, well, you're here, so you love it too.



The angle of Freyja made it look like she was a little stumpy but she sure isn't, I think it was the perspective of the last photos. Here's a good scale shot. The other two minis are Elizabeth I and Phoolan Devi from the Bad Squiddo catalogue.



Onto one of my next favourite menz! Mr Jo Brumby! The man who's quirkiness always makes my heart grow about six times every time I speak to him.

If you are familiar with Fenris Games, he has sculpted a huge amount for them and is kind of king of the animals. Otherworld Miniatures is a place you will have seen his gribblies too in bulk, as well as all over the place. He is the man behind our peegs, bunnies, kitties and capybara! As a massive loss to the industry last year, he announced his retirement from commission work. But he loves us back so hard that we've got some skogcatts and vallhunds out of him! Squeeeee! Now give THAT man a massive clap and some bowing and some "we're not worthy!"

In true Jo style, his greens photograph bad! He uses dark green stuff then heck knows what, some sort of brownstuff in random blotches So as always, the arrive looking 789298342 times better than I thought from the photos!

And erm.... bigger! I had comissioned them big, as they are skoggkatts, but er, forgot when pricing! Heh! So you get a mega bargain if you buy them now as I won't back - track, so they are £6 for 8 currently, but will be around £6 for 4 afters. Same with the vallhunds. My brain had melted and I priced them the same as the other kitties, which you will see now are er, a bit smaller!
