Since the codex is out been feeling like grabbing a few of the new models but trouble is I don't know what things I should grab, I already have Two squads, one with spears and one with shields, the land raider and two comtemptor dreadnoughts.
So was wondering what peoples thoughts would be on what to get next be it for a full army list, an allied detachment or for a imperial soup list and so forth, just would like to know what people would grab, why and how they would field X unit here or X unit there.

From what I've read online the Terminators are not very good for there points cost.

Jetbikes on the other hand seem pretty good for what you get, I'd look into getting 6 jetbikes, & HQ options and most likely another squad with spears.

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

I would buy Jetbikes too.

You can run them as a Supreme Command Detachment and it's so strong!

What about the wardens and the special character? would they be worth getting? or would it be better to make a captain out of one of the jet bike units?

To defend Allarus, I think they're a solid choice even if they're not as points efficient as Vertus Praetors. They're great in CC, have native deep strike, good shooting (for Custodes anyway) and a few great stratagems associated with them. I think they can perform well if you know what you're doing with them. As much as I love the Vertus Praetors and they are certainly one of the best units in the codex, spamming one unit doesn't sound appealing to me personally and at least including something like Allarus that at least have potential tactically adds some much needed variation.

I would definitely include a Vexilla - the minus one to hit is Awesome and can stack with a WLT. For HQ I really like the cpt in terminator armor for the deep strike option.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

I would say that vexilla and a unit of bikers is the safe grabs considering what you have.
The vexilla gives you a choise of 3 good auras, and the bikes are just overall a solid unit, regardless how you kit it out.

I have serious doubts about the land raider, dreadnought and basic termis for competative lists, but if you are playing casualy they do just fine.

A lot of the units are very new and nothing in terms of experience to rate them. The bikes are a no-brainer.

Releasing Custodes was without a doubt one of the best business decisions GW has ever made. They are selling like ecstasy at a rave party.

Wardens with axes are a point-for-point a marginal improvement over Guards against normal targets and a massive improvement against big targets in melee (the bump from S6 to S8 is immense against T7 if you find yourself running into Dreadnaughts, Carnifexes, etc.), they're a little worse shooting (same BS, same gun, but more expensive), and the FNP makes them almost exactly as durable for the cost.

I'm a little skeptical of them because of the Command Point problem (Custodes have a lot of fantastic and expensive Stratagems, but it takes a lot of points spent on Troops before you've got enough Command Points to use them, and committing more to Elites isn't helpful there), and I don't think I'd recommend using them if you already wanted to get an Allarus unit (they do similar things in melee, only the Allarus have a built-in delivery mechanism, more ranged attacks, the ability to wander around tarpits if you needed them to, and several stratagems (though I'm disappointed Unleash The Lions can't be done the same turn you land)).

As for Valoris he may be too expensive; I'd be less skeptical about the worth of the Moment Shackle if he weren't literally twice the price of a Shield-Captain with an axe. I'd say try him out in big games, but under 2,000pts the extra bodies are probably worth more.

I'd grab another box of basic guard, you'll want 3 squads and 2 HQs for a battlaion

Even if that was true (and it isn't), people who has loaded up on custodes models has clearly done so without knowing anything about their viability, or in most cases without having read the codex.

I think it is just a matter of manly super-dudes in gold-plated golden armour being really popular.

Hey, I collected 4500 points of custodes in 7th edition just on the speculation that they'd get a full codex release.

Wardens are currently vexing me a little. I've been tossing around different ways to create support detachments. I think the obvious one is a Supreme Command of bikes with a Vexilla in the elite slot, but it would super be nice to be able to play the 4 other models out of that box. Wardens being elites make them a decent option for a Vanguard detachment with 2 bike HQs but the lack of a delievery mechanism for them certainly feels limiting and that third elite is a bit of a question. A shame the Vexilla banners aren't unique. I'd probably just run a Defensor and Magnifica if that was the case.

I think a box of Wardens is great for bits. My issue with them is they do not have access to storm shields and I believe they are 3W. Custodian Guard do have access to the storm shield and I like to have one Custodian armed with one in my three man squads. Wardens do have access to axes but TBH I think the Allurus terminators are much better plus can naturally deep strike.

Yeah. I'm largely come to the same conclusion. I think the crux of my issue is just that I like the Warden models better.

My plan is to use Warden models and just run then as the Guard. I'm going to be using spears most of the time anyway, and they're much nicer looking models, to me, than the Guard. If I need a storm shield or two I can always convert with spare bits.

Do you really think the +1 Invul is worth the extra cost and loss of damage output on a 3 man squad?

You can burn 1 CP to deep strike the Guardians onto an objective. They are hard to shift - requires some effort at least. If they are shot by high S AP3-4 ranged weapons start taking saves on the stormshield first. I would rather roll one 3++ than six 5++ say versus a lascannon. 3++ is almost twice as good as 4++.

I am running Allurus terminators to do the heavy lifting... they have axes, the super grenade launcher, naturally deep strike and 4W.

Vanguard does give you 1 CP though and that is really good for Custodes in general.

Note I am running the Custodes to support my SM army. Had a game last night and they did really good.

After getting the codex and my terminator custodies. plus the HQ other than bikes my next addition to the army will be 60 imperial guardsman and 2 company commanders. adds command points and gives me the ability to hold ground taken for 300 points. possibly a heavy weapons team or 2 as well for lascannon support.

any new army that releases will, in the first month or so sell very well, as people buy some and start anew small army, I suspect people playing full custodes will be rareish but I bet every IoM player will end up with a small custodes force

Element Games sold all of his Adeptus Custodes stock. They have stock in the way for Allarus Custodians (The Terminators). You don't buy 64 more boxes the week after you have released a product unless it is selling like hotcakes. Custodian Guard, out of stock. And its strange because you could buy Custodian Guard from Ebay cheaper (2 weeks ago they where for 25€, now they are at 28€ for 5. A Custodian Guard box in Element Games is 35€)

Yesterday they had 20 Custodes Dices packs in stock, now they have 5.

Whats the math behind "3++ is twice as good as 4++"? I have see it said some times. But with a 4++ you are blocking 50% of the incoming hits, with 3++ you are blocking 66%. Thats an increase in survability of 32%. Its not small, but is not twice as good. If my math is correct, of course. And agaisnt MW it doesn't help, thats something to factor in.
