So this started up the other day, funded, and is slowly cruising along through its stretch goals.




Sandy Petersen as most of you know (as it says right above these words) is the dude responsible for helping put Cthulhu into the pop cultural hivemind as well as being part of the original Doom designers. Cthluhu Wars was a BIG hit in the board game community (both figuratively and literally) both for its gameplay and the size of the figures involved.

As before, big things are big-


Hero models look big too but most of you would probably be after the demons anyways.

Gameplay looks cool, with multiple maps and skill trees that open up for the heroes as you attempt to fight off the demonic incursions.

Kickstarter page has a lot more info on gameplay, a print and play option, wip rulebook, and turnarounds of most of the demons for your viewing pleasure.

Some of the designs feel a bit Kingdom Death inspired (especially the Stheno), but not at all in a bad way. Digging the demons, but no real desire for another $100 big box game (which I am completely aware of the irony of chomping at the bit for the Batman and Hellboy games on the way). If they eventually do model-only options like they've been doing with the Pathfinder/Cthulhu wars crossover, I'd absolutely be in.

This guy has an impressive resume, I havent played Cthulu wars but have heard overwhelmingly positive things about it from people that have. I can also seemingly never have enough horror minis in my life, so backing this one is a no brainier for me.

What is thePathfinder/Cthulhu Wars crossover? I would love a chance to buy some Cthulhu Wars minis.

Some very unique figures there. As usual with this kind of thing, I'm not really up for paying for a game I'll never play just to get some figures I want, but the characters and some of the demons (unfortunately, mostly not the ones in the basic pack) are really cool. Hopefully they'll appear on their own at some point.

I can't imagine Petersen Games will leave money on the table if they're aware there's a market for the models by themselves. More likely they're figuring out numbers and packaging to get them to retail. It looks like just about everything CW related is out of stock. Maybe they're combining a production run with CW2?

During KS1, they offered the faction miniatures individually, and said they lost money on them. I think that's also why you don't see CMON selling individual miniatures that were in their boardgames. OTOH, The CW expansions don't have many non-miniature components, so you could say that you're not paying extra for gaming stuff you don't need.

Still, a CW base set has only two ghouls. Picked up some more from other companies.

There is a guy on BGG who did the print and play and played the game. He said it was surprisingly light, very much so compared to Cthulhu Wars, but still fun. So don’t expect a deep strategy game.

Petersen just posted a link for rules to use every Planet Apocalypse figure in Cthulhu Wars (if there are any CW players here).

Also, all-in price to get everything in Planet Apocalypse is $299.

Sandy Petersen said he will design a new Lord as the last stretch goal, with a difficulty of 4 crowns! So, it will be the "end boss" of the game, altough it can be played on any of the 10 maps.

We are into the final 48 hours...

Still 3 big demon figures to come (Philter, Argus and the yet unrevealed final boss)

Brazil opened as the 13th region in the game. We are on our way to the Philter demon.

Demon lord Argus is reached, so the Demon Cthulhu is the only one left.
60K in 11 hours seems to be hard to reach though.

I wouldn't worry much about the final goal- these types of campaigns tend to either throw it in at the last minute as a goodwill gesture, or they get enough in the pledge manager to finish unlocking it.

We did reach 500K to get the DemonCthulhu.

The Spider Mastermind will be ours when the money goes up to 600K in the PM. Should be no problem as many people pledged $1 and will up to $99 at least in the PM.
