Struggling about in Asmos territory.

Hello Aku-chan, your paints look great, don't do yourself short saying you're not a good painter, you're pretty good.
As for colour-issues with photography, do you have access to or the money for a lighting set up? They are generally about 40-50 bucks in photography stores, the ones with either a ring light or flat bars with customizable angling, such lighrs have a dial on them on which you can adjust the lighting from cold to warm, and generally it is warm lightning messing with colours.
Another idea is to exclusively photograph in natural lighting areas, not necessarily outside but atleast in a location that has a large window close to it during the daytime.

Check the challenge thread on these forums!

edit: lol didn't notice this post was from 2016 -_- wut
Anyway, compliments still stand and eh, lighting advice.. probably you already got that fixed seeing from your recent pics.

Graves is coming along nicely. I really like your use of several different browns on and around the boots-- I would have likely taken a lazier approach.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

The Warmachine stuff is pretty far down the painting queue, gotta stop buying things just because they look cool!

Yeah, it took me ages to figure out a decent photo setup, but I got there eventually.

I've just got a thing where stuff needs to be different colours if they're close together.

Finished things! Woot!

Zenestra (Games Workshop) is all done, but proving hard to photograph:-

I am really pleased with how she looks, and it proves I can finish these bigger minis if I just stick with them.

Ratcatcher Graves (Guild Ball) is also finished:-

Not sure about his albino rat (It's not particularly well detailed to start with, but the all white scheme is making it extra blob-like), but I like the rest.

Feeling a bit of painting ennui, so going to build things for a while.

Didn't get much done this week.

Built 3 minis (And forgot to take a picture of them before I packed them away) and started painting 2 others.

Mother:-

She's a gearpunk spider!

And a Working Class Mage:-

Not sure why she's working class.

Maybe because she has to carry all her own gear? No servants?

Zenestra is wild. That is one complex mini. Nice work finishing it off. I look forward to the cool spider.

Theres enough shading on the rat I think it reads well enough. Good work getting them done!

Spider is certainly an interesting looking guy!

Thanks guys!

Actually managed to get something finished this week.

Mother (Guild Ball) is all done:-

Thanks to being almost entirely drybrushed, I got her done in record time (For me).

Also made decent progress on the mage:-

I've decided she's working class because she wears jeans.

And another mage has joined the table:-

Decided to get my Underworlds project going again with a different mini, rather than trying, and failing, to get the Floaty Dwarf finished.

Love how Mother turned out. Some nice colors on the mage already.

I managed a little bit of painting:-

Got his armour done, but my last paintbrush died, so I'm building things again until I can get some more in the new year.
So far I've built:-

Vampire hunters,

Chonky Knight and Chonky Queen,

And half an Oblivion Mosquito.

Merry Christmas y'all!

I didn't get much done over Christmas (Not that I did much for Christmas either), but I did finish building the Oblivion Mosquito:-

Unfortunately I broke one of her bony leg things and it dropped off again shortly after taking this picture.
It's going to need pinning, but that can wait until I get around to painting it (If I get around to painting it).

Also finished the other two Steel Wax Armour minis, Chonky Guardian and Chonky Archer:-

Kind of annoyed that Archer has some obvious notches on his chest where his cape attaches, I didn't want him in one and I'm pretty sure the Archer loadout gets in the way anyways, hopefully it'll look better once painted.

Did do a little bit of painting, I think I ordered the wrong brushes though, they seem a lot smaller than usual!

It took forever to get the basecoat on those capes.

Since it's almost the end of the year, I had a look back to see how well (Or not) I'd done hobby-wise in 2024. Turns out, despite all the procrastination, I'd painted 25 minis which is double what I thought I had done, so I'm pretty pleased with that.
While I'm never going to reach triple digits, I think if I could actually get into the habit of doing a bit of painting every night, I could easily knock out 50 maybe 60 minis in 2025.

Happy New Year everybody!

Painting has been slow but steady this week, things should go a bit faster now that I've accepted defeat and brought yet more new brushes

Both Barnabas and the Mage are mostly done now, just need their staff's and bases done.

A new brush is one of life's great joys.

I'm curious about how you achieved that great denim effect.

Thanks, but the stormcast is done in metallic paint, I'm not clever enough to grasp NMM.

JoshInJapan wrote:A new brush is one of life's great joys.

The mages denim trousers are mostly down to Greenstuffs Smoky Blue paint being really denim-like. It's a base of Smoky Blue, some Blue Wash, and then highlights of more Smoky Blue and a Smoky Blue/light grey (I used Reapers Misty Grey) mix.

youwashock wrote:How did I miss that Stormcast looking just like Dr. Doom? That's awesome!

Thanks! Yeah, he kinda had to be Doom.

First two finished models of the year!

Working Class Mage (Westfalia):-

Took a while but I'm really happy with how she turned out.

And Sir Barnabas (Games Workshop):-

Not too sure the glowy, floaty rocks work but he's okay.

Did you add the magical elements coming out of the ground or is that a feature of the model? I love it - did something similar with an inquisitor (But then, naturally it broke!)

Thanks!
It was part of the model, that's why I thought I should paint it differently, so it didn't just look like a weird rock.

Life, and a bad cold, got in the way of painting last week, but I did manage a little yesterday:-

Chonky Queen is off to a decent start.

And so is Minerva, after a lot of fiddling with her eyes (They're just dots, why should that be so hard!).

Her armour is done in my usual Vallejo Oily Steel, my camera was just making things bluer for some reason.

I wasn't feeling too inspired with what I had on the desk, so I set them aside and started something new:-

Thanks!
For a while I've found if I stop working on something, even just for a few days, I really struggle to get back to it. I guess the only solution is to never stop painting!

Work continues on the Gnome:-

He's not quite working out how I wanted him to (I thought painting something big would be easier but it's not, it's just different), I'll get there in the end though.

Also started on some Necromunda dudes (Determined to get some painted before I buy more):-

Early days, but I'm liking them so far.

Characterful necromunda dudes! Ogryn, or just big guys?

Just big guys, they're the pit fighters that'll finally finish my Slaver Guild set.

Slowly making progress on everything.
The gnome king is eating up most of my painting time:-

Deciding to do the leaves on his outfit different greens was not my best idea!

Concentrating on just one pit fighter at the moment.
Now I'm zoomed in I can see I missed a chest staple.
