As I posted in the Stargrave models thread, or maybe it was here even.
Particularly that Dreadball set with the like Free Agents it might be.

Is there an Among Us scenario for Stargrave yet?

Games Workshop are not your friends. They are not a small dev trying their best. They are a multibillion dollar company making calculated decisions about how many costs they can cut, how lazy they can be about relases, and how much they can paywall. They will do it again. Stop giving them money for this.

Quarantine 37 is zombies and bugs. Late this year. Both critters are out in plastic, Mantic and WG Atlantic, as well as others. So who knows if there will be North Star kits for them. 2 new Captains and First Officers, no details.

2 suplements for next year - the Last Prospector and Hope Eternal. Hope Eternal mentions pirates.

3 more boxes of miniatures on the way! Female versions of crew and mercenaries next. Sounds like space zombies are 3rd but it might just be heads and bits. Wants robots but not there yet, the logistics are harder since you're not limited to the human form.

Really? We've only played one game so far but it plays very differently so far. It's clearly using the same engine, as expected, but there are four big differences that add up to a completely different game feel:

1) Way more ranged attacks -- every unit other than the dog has some kind of gun, usually a pretty decent one.
2) Way more access to AoE attacks due to grenades and flamers being much more widely available (of your 10 units, up to 6 of them can have reliable AoE attacks without needing to activate a power)
3) As per (2) but for LoS-blocking via smoke -- again up to 60% of your units can bring this, depending on your build (I would absolutely bring 6 units with either grenades, grenade launchers, or flamers, so at least 2-3 LoS blockers and 6 AoE deliverers)
4) The rules around loot mean that the grab-and-run option is just no longer there. You need to give strategic thought to bringing crew who can unlock set types of loot, then tactical thought to how you use them, including as to whether you bring more than one person to unlock loot after the first one fails (which will certainly happen). Clustering up like that makes those AoE attacks come your way...

That's not even considering the fact that just about every power is different from how spells were -- I can't think of any off-hand that are just find-and-replaces?

I appreciate the run for it rule but I still don’t like the move halving business for 2nd moves and when carrying physical loot. Makes for some silly calculations in what should be a fast moving game

Finally got some sprues from the three Stargrave multi-part plastic boxes. Wow! These are much more interesting in person than they looked online. Great stuff for various kitbashing projects. I would say these are almost “must haves” for 28mm kitbashers.

The best thing is they have no integral bases.

Indeed. I had great fun kit-bashing, and mixing in parts from FG, GA, and 3rd parties. Since I no longer enjoy the painting process, things have now slowed to a crawl, but cleaning and assembly was fast. And I'm looking forward to making more after I've played the game and have a better idea of what Soldiers and Specialists I prefer.

Weirdly, I find all the metals and plastics made by Northstar to be much better in real life than from the pics online.

Well, partner, it'll give your SG games a Firefly feel.

I remember once Firefly had a space-themed episode. The conceit was that the gang were actually the crew of a starship and all those odd towns they rode into were on different worlds. You can see why they didn't go with it, but it was a neat idea.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I doubt anyone is breathless waiting for my Stargrave crew review, but here it is!
Spoiler:

First off a fun, fun kit that I will buy more of. Well worth your $30.

The good - I picked the crew because it seemed to offer the most diverse options and was no disappointed. You get various guns ranging from crude looking shotguns and assault rifles to various high tech SMGs (but not heavy or special weapons).

In addition you get some arms holding tablets, tools (well just one holding a wrench) and some nice extra bits. Bits come off the sprue easily and fit together great.

You also get 15 sets of arms per sprue, a left and a right. So none of the GW nickle and dimeing where you get 20 guns but only 10 left arms to hold them. There's plenty of extra rifle arms to convert cultists and gnolls or whatever. I have something like 40 cultists in boxes so I can see a small army of troglodytes coming.

Unlike FG minis they do NOT have molded bases so you can use whatever basing you want. They come with flat disks but you can substitute GW bases or your favorite 3rd party.

The bad - All rifles and most pistols are right handed, so if you want a lefty you'll have to cut and glue. There's also hardly any right arms without a weapon so making unarmed civilians is hard. The kit could use an unheld rifle or two to put on backs.

Rules have snipers, grenade launchers and flame throwers but not in this kit. But a bit of fun with plastic rod took care of this. There's also no hand weapons on any of the kits. No laser swords, chain saws etc, no real cyborg bits other than an eye, some alien heads but nothing really wild. And of course no women though they coming.

Models are a bit smaller than GW humans, the flat bases make it even more obvious.

The detail also seems a bit softer than the Cultists or Gnolls, not sure why that would be.

Overall - great kit, I will buy more (no I don't need them but y'know). Moving forward I'd like to see occasional lefities, more unarmed hands, and bit more sci fi options.

Last Prospector is also up for preorder on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Stargrave-Last-Prospector-Joseph-McCullough-ebook/dp/B094V17KBS/ref=sr_1_5

The Dahlgren Belt was once a vast asteroid mining operation that supplied the entire sector with rare metals and various elemental fuels. However, the isolation of the last war caused the corporation to wither, and the various outposts and colonies were eventually left to look after themselves. Some became true collectives, or limited democracies, while others have fallen to the rule of gangsters, warlords, and despots. In all cases, the limited resources of air and organic material has made life difficult.

In this supplement for Stargrave, the crews must travel from asteroid-to-asteroid, and even down to the system's one, barely inhabitable planet, searching for a man who claims to have discovered a 'big score'. During their journey, they'll fight through numerous different environments – including asteroid mines, zero gravity, and even hellish jungle. They'll also need to curry favour with the various small political factions that hold power in the Belt. Only through a combination of wits, diplomacy, and the gun can the crews hope to reach the last prospector and gain a share of his claim…

This would be a good opportunity for a civilian kit. Spacesuited prospectors, sure, but with different tools, they could be shipwrights or damage control specialists. Spacesuits could also double as Biohazard suits ... not sure what accessories/tools would indicate they are dealing with hazardous materials though. I don't think one uses a mop & bucket to clean up after a nuclear meltdown.

Anyway, if Northstar does make such a kit, let's have more tool arms this time, as opposed to the one wrench arm, and two Data slate arms. Or even just a few open-hand arms and the user glues in tools/weapons as desired.

Sadly the shipping costs + extra customs and duties tacked on after crossing the border made it not worth ordering directly from Northstar, I'm gonna have to use online stores in Canada that stock Stargrave/Frostgrave/Oathmark in the future.
