Good day all,

So here is my question,
I have started back into playing, and am getting my army from both NiB and Ebay.
What I would like to know, is If I have a newer (2016+) SM tactical squad, and wish to use older (1998 ish) Heavy weapons teams inside that tactical squad for heave weapons (IE: Plasma cannon in place of the Missile Launcher ) is that allowed?
I know there is a size difference between the 2, but that's the only thing different (I believe)

They should be the same size as I have mix of metal 3rd edition upto new models and they aren't significantly different, if you mean base size Technically marines on old 25mm are legit, but transferring them to 32mm does make them look better and less prone to wobble if they are metal or part metal.

For normal troops it may not be much of a size difference but i can tell you that a RT era terminator is much much smaller than a currently produced terminator.
I would say that you should consult the TO or whomever you are playing as to whether the substitution is OK. Also please remember that WYSIWYG is no long a rule.

WYSIWYG is something else to check about with the TO. Even though it's not a rule in 8th edition, a TO may require it for his tournament.

When playing in any sort of organized event, it's always best to check with the organizer if you're using anything you can't currently purchase or if you're planning on having models equipped with wargear that doesn't match your list.

WYSIWYG may not be a hard and fast rule, but it does make the game easier for your opponent. Not everyone agrees with me, but I consider following WYSIWYG to be a sign of good sportsmanship.

I have several gaming rules of thumb. One is to stick to WYSIWYG. Nobody ever complains when your Lascannon Dude has a Lascannon. Another is that when I buy something new, I make sure it's the current version of whatever I'm adding to the army. Nobody ever complains if you're fielding current range models. If you field outdated and different scaled models that aren't equipped per your list... expect some complaints and possibly to not be allowed to participate in some events.

If I understand you correctly, when you ask if you can use "(IE: Plasma cannon in place of the Missile Launcher )"

You are asking if it is okay to use your old model with a plasma cannon alongside the new models, since the new tac squad box only has a missile launcher?

In which case no-one will have any issue with that as long as you use it as a Plasma Cannon, which it sounds to me is what you want to do anyway

Yes, That is exactly what I am asking. Long story short, I have a lead on an inexpensive set of '98 era devastators, and wanted to know if I would swap out the heavy weapon SM for the ML SM, using that weapon as that weapon (IE: Heavy Bolter as Heavy Bolter, Lascannon as Lascannon, Etc..)
I just want's sure if it was ok to have a tact. squad consisting of 9 2016 models and 1 1998 model.

Fire away.

Here's secret: Game actually has no rule what models you use. Go and grab US toy soldiers and use them as your space marines if you want. 100% rule legal. Now of course your local opponents can have another word about that. But that applies in your case. Ultimately what is and is not allowed depends on whom you play with(or tournament you attend in case of tournament).

I don't see why this would be a problem. Theyare pretty much the same scale. It is visible clear what weapon is what. Go ahead!

Brutal, but kunning!

To nitpick, the rules state you can only use the rules for Citadel Miniatures.
The core rules on these pages contain everything you need to know in order to use your Citadel Miniatures collection to wage glorious battle across the war-torn galaxy.
So you can't use Poundshop Toy Soldiers, but you can use Guardsman model as a Wraithlord for all the rules care.

There shouldn't be any problem with it.

If anybody has a question about it, tell them the rest of the squad found the short guy to be a genetic defect and they gave him the plasma cannon in the hopes that he'll blow himself up at some point.
