Subject: Starting Orkz 40k with a Gorkamorka starter set! What can i use??
Basically 2 buggies (now warbuggies, back then were trucks. Which makes them now illegal as trucks. The unit now is near identical to a warbuggy) 2 trakkz (The miniature is still the same in 40k). Now, i've never seen these in battle reports so i guess they suck?
Also plenty of ork boyz, some of them regular others with regular melee weap but +shotgun / revolver. Are these usable or i need to convert to a blaster?
Now. If vehicles are useless should i dismount it all and try to convert/make with bits + green stuff a big truck?
My last question, The 8th Ork40k codex is still to come. Should i wait and check if they boost buggies / trakkz?
Thanks, confused orc

Check out my Ork Painting Log. It is filled with Gorkamorka Orks and vehicles. Many of them converted and updated as the years went by. The Orks in the set are a little smaller than the current ranges, so I often used the extra arms from regular Ork sets to beef up my Boyz. Link in my signature.

Amazing models... Do you play/played with Buggies and Trakkz (saw them in there). Because i either tear them appart for pieces and try to build a truck (LOL I'LL FAIL) or get 1 more of each for 3 units each and might come in handy some day...

I use the Trakkz, a squad of three with Rokkits coming in on the flank can bring fear and they are bound to hit something with that many shots despite their poor ballistic skill.
str1keOne wrote:Also these is the only big metal ork that came. Whom character can i use it for? And what weapon to put there?
I just use him as a Nobz. So he can lead a Mobz of Boyz or be part of a Nobz Mobz. Power Klaw if leading a unit, Slugga or other weapon when going in a Nobz Mobz.
Hope that helps,
CB

NOTE: Couldn't embed videos here, time stamp bugged :O
So is this legit as in between friends, or as in tournaments? This is quite important for me since i have to choose either to tear models appart or use them...i hope it's legit so i build on them, Ork style but i don't want to make illegal miniatures........
The first is a Big Mek on a bike. Aside from a little weapon changes that is fine as it’s a normal GW model.
The trak looks to be the Forgeworld model (Ork Big Trakk), so also perfectly fine.
Current Project: Random quaratine models!
Most Recently Completed: Stormcast Nightvault Warband
On the Desk: Looking into 3D Printing!

Thanks.
Now i'm thinking of getting another regular trakka for a 3 squad and use the 2 buggies to make a truck (i got a lot of bits piece) It would have 8 wheels, 2 drivers and a huge empty back space. Can this be done?

Anything can be done with Orks my fiend. The only advice I will give is make some rough plans before you start hacking away on models. As long as it rough lot looks like it would work, then it’s perfect for orks.
Secondly, I’m not familiar with your country’s flag so I’m not sure if they have ‘dollar’ stores there, but they are a great source of ‘hulls’ for Ork vehicles and wheels.
I have pilfered many dollar store tanks, apcs, atvs and trucks for parts when looking for thing to build for my orks.

The Gorka Morka trukk looks stupidly small - the easiest conversion is to chop the chassis slightly and add more dakka to turn it into a buggy. But I have also seen one stretched to the current trukk length and given extra wheels to become a more believable trukk.
IMHO, the Gorka Morka models are all pretty terrible as is (by modern day standards), but are great conversion bases. I've even seen conversions of the vehicles into artillery
Personally, I'd wait for our next codex before making any decisions - we have no idea which units/weapons/vehicles will be great or crap. Or if you can't wait, be prepared for some major scalpel/saw work when the codex does arrive.

Balsa wood is very flimsy. I've seen it used successfully for scenery (especially fences and buildings), where a few bumps and splinters won't matter, but I wouldn't recommend for e.g. vehicles. That said, some people use it to bulk out general vehicle shapes before completely covering it in plastic card, which can be useful.
In general, no one cares what material a conversion is made from, but some materials like wood and cardboard tend to very obviously look like that material. Plastic card/tube/girder (made of polystyrene) is the most common material - fairly cheap, sturdy, glues well to other polystyrene such as GW kits and takes paint the same way.

Warning: in my experience GW stores only allow models that are 100% GW parts. Conversions with toys, third party bits, etc. (no matter how cool and well-executed) are unable to be used at the store. In the old days, heavy conversions were part of the game and even featured in the 3rd edition Codex Orks. But now even a third party head swap is considered heresy.
Personally, converting my models (especially Orks) is one of my favorite parts of the hobby so I just choose to continue my conversions and play in my garage since my armies are not welcome at the store.

I really want official GW plastic... Which i guess is hard to get pieces from.
A cool story actually is that i have plastic parts that unite the cardboard pieces that make the Gorkamorka Fort from the starter box... Like Square thin walls. According to this i should be able to cut them and use pieces (i'm Orko so i build from garbage
Maybe my buggie > truck wish will come true

Well these Trukks were converted from those in Gorkamorka.
Added Imperial Tack Accessory parts to add some size, some had wheels replaced with extra tracks, all of them had their flatbeds extended so they could physically carry 10-12 Orks. One was so heavily modified that it could take five Mega Orks as I split the base tank in half and added Chimera extras and other parts to increase the size.

Amazing! Edit: Can you claim to have the weapon you want equipped without adding e.g. a rocket propeler etc.?

Not to hijack the thread here, but if this is THE...CAPTAIN...BROWN...then let me just salute you, sir. Your Elysians are a legend and a major inspiration for my own fledging force of that faction (see signature in link). And I loved Gorkamorka and so of course I love your army of them. I just wish I could shake your hand in person since you’ve been such an inspiration to so many of us in the hobby.
And str1keOne, good luck with yourgorkamorka army. I’m jealous of your boxed set! Just follow your heart and build what inspires you. Don’t worry about what’s good. Most of us spend more time modeling and painting then playing so make sure that part makes you happy. And if your army is flavorful and fun, your games against most opponents will be great fun as well. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Cheers!
