If you’re ever travelling to Newcastle in England avoid this takeaway. I had £20 left that was going to help pay my way back. Got a kebab wrap and they gave me £4 back. I tell him I gave him £20 and he just ignored me. That’s never happened to me before and it’s ruined a good night. I hate petty things like that. There is no tangible benefit to their business. The only reason you would do it is from a place of contempt and hatred. It’s blackmail because if I start calling him a liar and shouting him down as a thief it’s will end in me being called a racist and going to jail. I be already put something up on google reviews and I really want to put the word out to make sure other people don’t get robbed. Literally if I had not been with my friends I’d have probably been stranded.

If it were me, next time I'd demand to speak to the manager. Ask him to review the security footage or count the till right then and there. If there isn't compliance, call the police nonemergency number and politely ask for their advice in the situation and how you can assert your rights/report a theft/ whatever. Not sure how your local police will handle that, but here they would help make the manager uncomfortable.

EDIT: I stand corrected, I'd get the manager, raise some hell.

Call manager immediately.
If they have a till, point out that if you are right, there will be a twenty in the drawer for tenners.

It's an odd case, I've always found that takeaways in Newcastle have always been quite nice and I've never found myself being stiffed after a night out.

I'd assume £14, it sounds like they've mistaken a £20 for a £10, possibly deliberately, possibly a genuine mistake.

Bit hard to make that mistake these days.

£5 and £10 are plastic. £20 still paper.

This is a symptom of our current hyper-sensitive culture, apparently not just here in America, but for our friends across the pond as well. People of minorities are able to do shady stuff and then shout "Racist!" if someone calls them out on it in any way, and ultimately winning whatever legal battle ensues (because a judge doesn't want to be found to be racist too, do they?). I work in retail monitoring the self-checkout machines, and believe me, sometimes all I have to do is look in the general direction of a person of color and they act like I'm accusing them of stealing just because they are colored, when in fact I wasn't even paying any attention to them at all. At first that made me think that people reacting that way must be trying to hide something ("thou doth protest too much" and all that), but really it is probably just people being overly sensitive and seeing prejudice everywhere even where there isn't any (neither I nor any of my coworkers are racially biased as far as I know). It's a shame that the ones who really are doing crooked stuff can use their minority status to get away with stuff simply by claiming accusations to be racially motivated, but that's the reality. If more people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, etc. would just get a backbone and stop getting offended when someone so much as glances at them, maybe this kind of thing would stop. People could accuse someone who actually cheated them without the accused being able to hide behind their minority.

Also, being put in jail for being accused of being racist? Really, that's a thing over there? Probably comes under hate crimes, but surely there has to be proof or something, right? Of course, as I said the authorities will probably side with the minority person as they don't want to be seen as biased themselves. What a world we live in, SMH...

This sort of thing might work better in a personal blog
