So after Custodeus, Rogue Traders, Necromunda, Sisters of Silence and soon Sisters of Battle...
WHAT'S LEFT for GW to do?
OK there's always revisiting and refreshing, some of the Eldar models are older than the kids playing with them and the IG desperately needs new infantry. And I'm pretty sure there's 4 or 5 Space Marine chapters that don't have special characters and rules yet.
And there is always the uncharted realm of new stuff which GW has done pretty well with in AoS (gotta eat my words, after a lackluster start AoS has some cool stuff).
But... from the existing IP what ground is there for GW to develop?
Adeptus Arbites - An army I've wanted FOREVER that could probably be done in one or two sprues.
Chaos Cults - Supposedly the Imperiums #1 threat but could use a full line rather than some OOP monopose models.
Pirates and Rogue Traders - I can hope that the RT game means a full faction is coming
Inquisition - I'd love to get a full line of Inquisition freaks. The problem is GW these days is all about monopose characters with no options, while I'd want an Inquisitor kit on par with the old Marine commander or Empire wizard with TONS of options.
Squa.... oh I can't even say it anymore. Besides there's a dozen companies making sci fi dwarves now, even in plastic and certainly the AoS Sky Pyrytes can meet any need anyone has.
Anyone else got a wish list?

Sadly but most likely is the slow squatting of many of the older model ranges to be replaced with a similar but not quite close enough alternative in order to encourage/force people to buy new stuff.

They still have a ton of stuff to do, and I for one am not against there being a zillion books.

I think a new Imperial Agents book with Inquisitors, Rogue Traders, Arbites, SoS, Assassins, etc. would be great and would fit well with all the Kill Team stuff they've been doing.
I think an Arbites/Naval Armsmen dual kit would be cool and easy to pull off.
Chaos Cults - Supposedly the Imperiums #1 threat but could use a full line rather than some OOP monopose models.
I'd like them to give us back rules as flexible as the old Renegades & Heretics rules. Those could represent ragtag cults, well-drilled armies, space pirates, pretty much whatever you wanted.
Plus we need Dark Mechanicus.
I'm waiting to see what'sin the ork codex, but I'm thinking that a Dread Mob codex and a feral ork book are both something we could really use. Speed Freeks, Freebooterz and Tanka Mob would be cool as well.
The Tau could use a book of Auxillaries and/or Kroot Mercenaries.
More rules for different subfactions of SM/ CSM would of course be cool (and is more likely what we're going to get) but I would like to see new plastic IG regiments and a few different books to represent the different types of regiments. Maybe a light infantry book, a heavy infantry book, and an armored/mechanized/artillery book. Plus it could be cool for Scions to get their own book again. Also a few more Auxillaries would be fun.
I think most of all I'd like them to focus a bit more on terrain rules and city fight, stronghold assault, and other fun battlefield rules and terrain (moar xenos terrain!).

This.
But realistically, I really think the whole Chaos Space Marines line needs an update. Either pull the trigger on Traitor Primaris or just scale them up.
EDIT: #1: plastic Aspect Warriors #2: phase out all Finecast models

There's one true soup army, Imperium, and another two semi soup armies, chaos and eldar. GW can expand other factions to big soup factions if they so want. Tyranid soup, tau soup, ork soup, necron soup.

They really should pump the brakes on new kits and update the ones we have. Orks didn't need 4 different buggies. They needed one buggy, the biker boss, and the other boxes could've been kommandos, tankbustas, a proper warboss kit with options like the chaos Terminator guy, and a new deffkopta.
Same with guard last time we got updated. Yeah we needed the Hydra but no one asked for the wyvern. Yeah we needed Stormtroopers but we didn't need a new transport, etc. Etc.
|
'I've played Guard for years, and the best piece of advice is to always utilize the Guard's best special rule: "we roll more dice than you" ' - stormleader

These are all things I'd really like to see. The game really needs to have more normal humans instead of just adding new flavours of superhumans. Also, all three are factions that would allow a great variety of weird and characterful models.

I think they could lump A LOT of the remaining imperial stuff into one codex. Arbites, Inquisition, assassins, rouge traders, etc. could all be in one book with some "generic" titles that encompass several background forces with similar loadouts.
For example, "generic unit x" is a troop unit that has humans in 4+ armor, hotshot lasguns, and 5-10 men. They may upgrade to bolters, have 1-2 special weapons. Then have a blurb in the margins stating it covers Inq. Henchmen, bodyguards for Rouge Traders, and Arbites.
Also, I wouldn't mind seeing Feral Orks (boarboys and squiggoths), Exodite eldar, or an all-Kroot army. Heck, I think any two of those forces would make a decently themed starter box based on a feral world.

Don't forget Battlefleet Gothic Heresy as well as black stone fortress (aka space crusade. Probably). After, I reckon maybe a rehash of "Oi! Dats my leg!" replete with cheesy songs.
Beyond that, Inquistor could be looked at again. Maybe even a reappearance of the Rangdan Xenocide aliens?

I'm hoping Blackstone will be a backdoor for Inquisition and some other factions.
We'll see.
As long as I'm thinking about it Enslavers would be a cool return and an easy new Xenos/Chaos faction. Flying brains with armies of mind controlled zombies, 2 kits and you're done. And plenty of room to expand with all kinds of gross abominations.

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.
To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Genestealer/Tau Cults? Ork-hybrids? Both can ally with 'nids. Why not?
Definitely on board for a Imperial Agents book, Inquisition, Arbites, Rogue traders, Assassins and such all in one. Maybe the odd unit of other Imperial troops, even non-combatant ones that can be support (hospitalier units, or something).
Kind of a problem with their business really, once they've released every model for every rule, and everyone has one, where do they go? New models and new rules, a new edition, a whole new faction; or just keep re-doing old kits forever?
Got to always have something new to satisfy the masses. Not sure they'd ever get away with: "Well that's all the models and rules released, have fun everyone, we'll just keep selling you what we made, but there's nothing new now."

I'm of the thought that they should focus on updating old models. A lot of the models, particularly from the IG and Eldar ranges, look pretty out of place compared to their newer releases.
As much as I like hobbling together Chaos Cultists, a new kit of those would be pretty nice!

I'm fairly certain at this point that when they come to focus on an army the new kits will be for new Datasheets.
It just seems to be the modus operandi now. Like how they're releasing Ork Buggies, but they are new units really that can't properly be represented by old models as is.
