Pretty Spaceships on Kickstarter

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/heavygearblitz/jovian-wars-venus-forces-kickstarter

About
Our initial funding goal is $4,000 CAD (about $3,100 USD), needed to cover the mold costs for the 8 new Venus ships and give our Backers some great reward packages. After we've reached that goal we'll be announcing stretch goals to added extra weapons and parts to the ships. Checkout the graphics below for our great reward levels, with Captain reward level including a Jovian Wars Patch and the first 4 ships and the Commodore reward level including Patch and all 8 ships. Along with additional reward levels that add all 9 of the Venus Exo-Armor and Fighter/Bomber squads to the Captain and Commodore packages. Plus our Pilot reward level with Patch and you select which ships and other Add-Ons for an extra pledge that you want for a reward package.
Please Note all prices in this Kickstarter are in Canadian Dollars ($CAD) as we are based in Canada, at launch $1 CAD was worth about $0.77 USD with a 1.3 exchange rate. So the Captain reward level pledge of $76 CAD is about $59 USD, Commodore reward level pledge of $138 CAD is about $106 USD.

Some interesting looking ships but they seem rather pricey, is the company any good? Seems they have been around a while.

I love some of those ships. Fortunately, it looks like there are only a few pewter parts, and they can probably be replaced with plastic components...

Bit of a hit and miss, some of the ships look really nice, whilst others don't.

Nice hard sci fi vibe.

I'm REALLY happy to see Jovian Chronicles/Wars getting love again, it was always my favorite of the DP9 settings, far more interesting than Heavy Gear ever was to me. It's also great because a lot of these designs had rules in the RPG and Lightning Strike miniatures game, but never had figures.

For those not familiar with the setting, it's a hard sci-fi western take on Gundam. It is VERY similar to The Expanse with the inter-system politics and cold-war-turning-hot, except there's no alien space zombies and more mechs. Jovian colonies are the Belters/OPA, CEGA is Earth Gov, Mars is Mars but is a much more minor player (in this setting the Jovians are as powerful as Mars is in The Expanse, while JC/JW Mars is very marginalized like the Belters/OPA are). Venus, who is the star of this Kickstarter, is controlled by small but powerful corporations with low numbers but high technology, Venus is basically Protogen except not quite so overtly evil.

The mechs (called Exos or Exo-Armors) aren't super-robots that do everything in this setting, they're meant primarily for variable role, close-in attacks and are very maneuverable, they fill the role of dogfighters/interceptors or attack helicopters (depending on loadout) where the actual starfighters are the high-speed attack craft/bombers with low manueverability but high thrust/speed.

I haven't played the new rules, I hear they are similar to SW:Armada, but the old Lightning Strike mini rules are great and are still available on Drivethrough RPG and may actually still be in print. Fighters use vectored movement and have long straight-line movement and limited turns. Exos have a much smaller movement range but can move and face freely within that range. Even the smaller Ships are slow and ponderous but with multiple weapon systems and a lot of armor & hit points and multiple actions, but are also very expensive points-wise. It's been a long time since I actually played a game, but it's good enough that I got a lot of the new fleet-scale fighters and Exos to replace the larger ones I have. For about $100USD I got one of every pack of Exo and fighter for Jovian and CEGA and that is more than you'd ever realistically use in a game if you single-base them. Ships are pricey so I still use my old ones, but not terribly expensive since you only need a few
