Here I'll be posting updates on two armies I've been working on since 8th dropped: Ulthwé eldar and chaos daemons.
My Ulthwé force started back in 3rd with a couple of guardian squads, some rangers, some fire dragons and a ton of warlocks/farseers (back when seer councils were a thing!). After that I took a 16-year break from 40k before my coworker introduced me to 8E last year and got me hooked all over again.
I've always loved the dark, goth look of the Ulthwé color scheme, with its edgy, arrogant vibe that I find works perfectly with eldar. They're the most damned of the craftworlds being located deep within the Eye of Terror and under constant threat of daemonic incursion. Thematically they play nicely with my daemon horde.
My painting strategy is FTTR -- Fastest To Table Ready . I always prioritize base coats, main colors, and bases first before going into significant detail so the army always looks nice and cohesive on the table even though few units are actually 100% done. Not only is it the quickest way for me to get new units on the tabletop, it also makes for some fun WIP pics when evaluating the overall feel of color choices across the entire army rather than individually finished models.
Here's a WIP shot of the eldar force from a few months ago:

Holy moly that is an impressive collection of daemons! Nice colour contrast and blending - I am also definitely on board with the idea of collecting Ulthwe alongside the greatest threat to their existence. Looking forward to more!

Will be following this with interest.
Ulthwe is my favorite Craftworld of them all. The dark edgy theme caught my eye back in early 5th edition and I have collected quite a lot of them since then.
I like the contrast between black and bone color, which I never managed to do properly, so I had to invent a scheme of my own.
Will these guys be Ulthwe also on the tabletop?

I usually play my Eldar as Alaitoc because my local meta is pretty competitive.
Plague drones I did recently:

The daemons are already looking good! Are you sure they're "just" tabletop ready? But really, adding some small details like the scribbling on the book on one of your horrors and finishing the bases does wonders to the impression that the paintjob gives.

I love the painting here - seeing all of those Pink Horrors together is quite something... and slightly terrifying!
Really good "meat and potatoes" painting, and then some. Very neat, I look forward to your Ulthwé coming along, too!

Thanks guys. Yeah, I definitely try to focus on the most practical models in my collection. The thing I enjoy above all else is gaming with nicely painted armies on nice terrain setups, while also not being constantly steamrolled by competitive players, so 'meat and potatoes' is where I'm at!
I do try to put a little more time into HQ units like heralds and autarchs and stuff to emphasize their status on the tabletop. The Chaos scribbles are really fast and easy to do and add a lot of finish just like you said.
I'm taking a fairly scary 'mostly daemons' list to the store today. Hopefully I'll find a game.
Lol @ how big plague drones are for what essentially amounts to flying nurglings stat-wise

I haven't completely forgotten about Eldar! Here's some progress on my Shadow Spectre squad that have reached somewhat table-readiness recently. Someday I will finish edge highlighting them.
To be perfectly honest though, I'm going through a bit of a daemon phase right now. The fact that I can run competitive daemon hordes in the current meta is too good to pass up. This blurry smartphone pic basically represents the level of tabletop readiness of my 130-dude competitive horde list. I've been extremely pleased with its aesthetics and performance on the tabletop.

Saw your daemons on Reddit so thought I'd drop a comment here, they look brilliant and deserve the board time.
Liking your Spectres too, how are they to build/paint?

Do you actually use the rules for Uraka or is it just a generic Khorne DP in game?

Yeah triple battalion daemons are so much fun to play right now. With the total number of spells between 2 daemon princes, 2 changecasters, Ahriman, and a poxbringer, I still need way more practice with my psychic phase order of operations before I feel confident playing the list. I probably make at least 1-2 big psychic mistakes per game still. Gotta always remember to cast Gaze of Fate first! And then remember to actually use it later
I love the sculpts but oh man are they an absolute nightmare to build. All of those little strips are different, not exactly compatible with each other, and made out of super fragile resin. Cleaning that squad was a pain. They are pretty impressive to look at in person though. Lots of nice parallax when viewed at different angles.

I ran Uraka maybe the first 3 times I played that model. He was kind of fun but also kind of lacklustre as he always dies before his ability really takes off. Did not feel like a proper champion of Khorne. These days I can't resist running him as the standard Khorne DP since his axe is just a perfect tabletop representation of Skullreaver. Last game I ran him against orks he did 32 damage to a gargantuan squiggoth in one swing! Didn't even pop Frenetic Bloodlust. Against titanic his damage is simply bananas.
Speaking of orks, here are some fun pictures of a game I played against them using my Ulthwe a few months ago. Naturally the hemlocks, spears, and reapers did all the work. Seeing the hemlocks in aerial combat with all of the ork flyers was an impressive sight.

I wonder if this is true for all of the Children of the Warp, because it also describes Zarakynel perfectly. She's nearly 700pts and Her only real use is distracting every Lascannon gunner in the opposing army for one turn.

Maybe. It's no fun running a big character with a bunch of special rules and then watching it die before it really gets to make use of any of them.
Luckily DPs still feel very strong and scary on the tabletop. As they should.
I fixed up a busted old metal DP yesterday. It's a really heavy piece which gives it an awesome feel on the tabletop.

I ran the Yncarne for the first time this weekend and it was a blast. The move anywhere rule is a really fun twist on the usual pace of movement in 40k.

Got my first superheavy unit, a Scorpion Type II Heavy Grav Tank. I've wanted one of these since I was a kid. Was surprisingly painless to build and paint. Even managed to get it to work with the tiny GW flight stand (which I prefer since it's practically invisible).
