Hey I'm looking to buy a good AT unit to stand with my Bjorn. Which of the two would you guys suggest. The extra wound seems nice on the primaris and they look cool. But if they are bad them no point wasting the money. Cheers fellas! I heard a rune priest or Nijal can make them hit deepstriking units as they land. What spell is that, it is not in my codex..

Also. With the plasma supercharge roll of a 1 killing the bearer. Does this apply even with Bjorn's re roll on 1s?

It only applies if the final result is a 1.

So if you roll a one, re-roll, and get another 1 then you're dead. If the re-roll turns it into a 2+ then you're fine.

Note that if you have a negative modifier on the hit roll it makes exploding more likely. This is because any roll below a 1 counts as a 1. So if you're shooting at Raven Guard from 12"+ then you explode on a natural 1 or natural 2, and you can't re-roll the natural 2 so this would greatly increase your chance of exploding.

Ok cheers for that. I had no idea about that negative modifier. Would that mean I couldn't land a 6? In regards to a snipers ability. As a 6 would have to be a 7?

You are correct that you cannot get a roll of 6+ if you have a -1 Modifier to the roll. Note that most "sniper" type rules are on the To Wound Roll rather than the To Hit Roll, so consult the specific rule to be sure.

Oh yes course. I think necrons tesla would matter in that case?

But thankyou for that, I had no idea.

Yeah, Tesla cannot trigger if you're rolling a D6-1.

So with that in mind, are hell blasters good? Or long fangs are far better

ANYWAY, for the choice between the two, Long Fangs have an innate reroll to hit, so Hellblasters would get the most benefit.

Honest opinion? Wait for Chapter Approved 2018 so that you can make a honest comparison between the points cost of Hellblasters and Long Fangs for AT.

Unless you are looking to capitalize on Bjorn, in which case as noted, Long Fangs can already re-roll 1s without him.

What are the chapter approved books? I assumed they just gave scenarios and missions to play out.

I'd say Long Fangs. Don't they have access to a couple speciific stratagems? They can also take a Wolf Guard leader in Terminator armour with an additional Cyclone Missile launcher, etc.

Chapter approved are also an annual points-change list.

Ohh I see. I will have to have a look in that case. Is there a suspected release date?

The overcharge rule only applies if the Hellblaster re-rolls to a 1.
As long as the whole unit is targeting a single unit Long Fangs get the re-rolls without Bjorn’s help and Missile Launchers are possibly the most flexible gun available to the Space Wolves.

Keen Senses - cough up one command point and ignore all modifiers good or bad. Space Wolves can get sixes against Raven Guard.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Ok fellas, appreciate all the help. The hell blasters kit is definitely more for your buck. I will always be using Bjorn also. As I run him with a small group of snipers and ML. I'll have a think on it. It's a major shame they don't make a long fang kit anymore. Will have to buy a space wolves box with them to make them fit in.

Im thinking it might be worth running a Wolf guard battle leader for the wound re roll also.

I have both, and both do their own thing slightly differently. I'll have to admit, having 5 lascannons and a cyclone missile launcher packs a TON of anti-vehicle goodness. It's not enough to one-turn kill a Land Raider, but it will put the hurt on one. It will shred any intermediate vehicle though, so things like Dreadnoughts and Chimeras should be scared. Also, a storm shield on the terminator can help tank wounds.

With the rumored Chapter Approved rules dropping points on lascannons they only get better.

Hmm.. So it is worth having both? I was tempted toget a predator, but I think I may run a squad of Hellblasters with long fangs

Both have a niche. Long Fangs have better damage throughput, Halleblasters have superior mobility and durability.

Well I think that a SW army with Primaris included is totally unfluffy.
What they get are renaissance Marines, the next generation, but no longer the hauling und beer drinking Grey Hunter.

They have diffetent roles. Hellblasters shoot plasma, the long fangs most likely will be equipped with lascannons and single heavy bolter for MV strategem. Also long fangs got the access to couple bolterguys for meatshield. Try this: 6 man unit, 3 lascannons, 1 heavy bolter, bolterguy, serg. Also you better pick hellblasters in deathwatch detach, they will be in troop slot and will have sinergy with intercessor meatshield (with special ammunition), and also the DW chapter tactic usefull for hellblasters, unlike space wolves one.

Twin-las chaplain dreadnought warlord with saga of the beastslayer, with accompanying lascannon longfangs. Give them a WGBL for wound re-rolls, and make sure the chaplain dread finishes off a vehicle/monster turn 1. Enjoy your lascannons wounding almost everything on 2s re-rolling 1's.

Same goes for Power Fists and DTTFE - the amount of people I play that always forgets that is mind boggling.

You don't get a Bolter guy.

Yes you do. You don't have to switch all your bolters on the long fangs to heavy weapons.

Yes you are completely right. As cool as they look, it would not feel right using Primaris models within SW. Long fangs it is then!

The talk of a chaplain dread has been mentioned before, Im guessing the rules are forgeworld?

Yes, the rules are in the FW book Imperial Armour, Index: Forces of The Adeptus Astartes.

The chaplain dreadnought model FW produced is no longer made/sold. But making your own version is dirt simple enough.

You don't get a Bolter guy.

The sargent can't take heavy weapons so it's the bolter guy. Furthemore any Long Fang in the unit CAN take an heavy weapon, you can have several bolter guys actually. Two of them are quite mandatory. Never mix up the heavy weapons or you'll lose the re-roll of 1s. Go full lascannons, full heavy bolters, full missile launchers or plasma cannons, never mix the Long Fangs' loadout.

For the OP, avoid primaris stuff. They suck and they're also awful miniatures

I actually think the miniatures are great, it's just the rules (in 8th edition being 2 wounds actually reduces your durability) aren't that great.
