Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hello folks!

Returning to 40k after many years with no models; looking to assemble my first army, of which part is intended to be a couple of Mortis dreadnoughts with twin heavy bolter arms. I looked at Forgeworld, but they don't appear to sell dreadnought arms with twin heavy bolters, and the dreadnoughts on the GW website don't have heavy bolters either.

How does one go about making (1) Mortis Dreadnoughts and (2) either purchasing or kitbashing twin heavy bolter arms?

You could get the mortis autocannon arm.that is still.available.on FW and swap.the autocannon barrels for HBs.

Or maybe do something with Predator.sponsons with an additional HB muzzle.added?

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

heavy Bolter muzzles from...predator sponsons? I need a starting point on those too.

It's actually quite easy. If you mean the normal box dread -get an arm from the Venerable Dreadnought kit, and simply assemble two heavy bolters from the Leman Russ side-sponsons (or almost any sponson heavy bolter most likely). The Venerable Dreadnought kit has those slide-in weapon options.

Spoiler:

I just sanded the bottom one, slotted them in, covered some gaps with plasticard and added an extra belt/cable underneath it. It's glued into the army obviously but was a very simple and quick conversion.

Use contemptor dreads, they are better than regular dreads.

*disclaimer* New here, building my first models.

Do you mean that I should buy contemptor dreadnoughts and use their models instead of regular dreadnoughts? Is there a difference? Or do you mean that instead of a Mortis Dreadnought, I should use a Contemptor Mortis dreadnought? Or both?

How do you get that weathering effect?

And I have no dreadnoughts yet, nor arms - figuring out what to buy here. Sounds like you're telling me I can get the venerable dreadnought, where I can get one arm put together with leman russ side sponsons....does the venerable have both arms capable of being converted like that,or just one? It looks like the Mortis dreadnought has two sets of heavy bolters on each arm.

Ah, so the Mortis fields two pairs? The Venerable Dreadnought kit comes with enough bits for one or two (maybe three?) right arms, but only one close combat left arm. Not sure how you'd do a left arm --- would be much more work. It seems left arm options are much more scarce in plastic.

Yeah, the original.mortis was 2x TLAC arms in a "rifleman" style. So the problem is the left arm. For my goliath I used predator HB sponsors and replaced the HB with AC muzzle, but I think you could use these as the basis for a TLHB in a similar way to Elbows HB arm. You could then potentially cut off the top.of a dreadnought arm and add it on the top if you really want the classic dread arm profile. The sponsors at least get you the symmetrical weapon mounts as a starting point.
