How do?

Starting to look at actually painting my AT Warlord, and I've decided I want to use that Tamiya Candy Orange I've got kicking around.

Of course, that'll likely mean a Legion of my own devising, which is find by me. But, not being at all artistically inclined, I'm struggling to think which colours would set off the Orange nicely.

For the base, it'll be a dark silver with lighter silver dappling, to give the Orange a less uniform look. Trims will be some shade of Silver (because I'm thinking Gold or Brass just won't look right).

But what should I use as the 'other' colour? Or indeed colours? What suits Dakka?

I'd think a blue-ish purple, or a purple-ish blue.

I'd go with a muted beige or ochre as these tend to go well with oranges and darker yellows. Let the orange be the flashy eye catcher and the light brown tone act as unobtrusive filler.

I can't even look at orange without imagining it offset with a nice crisp white and a light grey ... so basically a very Infinity / HALO style, which I doubt very much would match a Titan ... why did I even bother posting?

I love using orange! If you're using it as a majority color, you want something dark to contrast it. I suggest...

Either dark grey:

Or gunmetal blue:

Though technically teal is a good opposition color to orange, it's an odd color to put on mechanical parts.

Blue is complementary to orange, but you should probably try a darker, desaturated blue if you want to go that route.

Any chance of colour swatches of the recommended ones?

I really am hopeless at art!

Go for a Dark Grey, almost black, so it matches the Forum Colour Scheme

For dark grey, Citadel Mechanicus Standard Grey. For gunmetal blue, Reaper Gunmetal Blue (natch) and Blackened Steel.

Perhaps something like Scale 75's Arianrhod Blue?

I made a quick a dirty mockup of a swatch over the Orange you have. I think it'd probably look pretty good with the Silver to mediate.

I don't know what a GW equivalent to that Scale75 would be though.

Bone or white works well

Blue is the complementary color (i.e. ‘opposite’, or what achieves the most contrast) for orange, so it’s worth considering for parts you want to have ‘pop’.

Though I’m partial to turquoise, myself.

As Prins mentioned, a dark color may be good too.

So for example, you could consider orange for the main armor color, and bone/off-white as support, or vice versa. Structural parts could be a dark bluish grey. Lenses, plasma coils, perhaps some of the heraldry could be turquoise.
