So I’ve been reading online that Rogal was the nicest primarch.

But I would have probably gone with Roboute as he looks after the people by building better places to live. By better places I have been reading that the 500 worlds were still unpolluted and that the oceans were still clean basically they lived some what in tune with nature.

I know the Salamnders and Blood Angels are nice also and others.

But why do people say Dorn was the nicest he comes across as ill tempered and doesn’t seem to care for mortals also the flight of the eisenstein scene.

Never heard of anyone claiming Dorn as the nicest before now. That would fall on either Vulkan, Rowboat, or Sanguinius, in my opinion.

I’ve seen it on some old forums. Yeah it surprised me as I thought Dorn was the guy with zero personality. And had a temper.

To be fair, Dorn does have a little bit of personality, but it is locked behind his rigid Paladin-like code of honor and duty. Maybe the Paladin thing is where they got the nice from, but strict adherence to law and order often requires the suppression of compassion.

The nicest huh? Then why is Dorn sited in many of the Traitor's back stories as having confrontations with them prior to the Heresy? He was a Prick.

Exactly that’s what I’ve noticed the most that’s why am so confused as to the nicest comment. I mean Alpharius was nicer and he’s a bag of riddles.

And Sanguinius had the Red Thrist and was still more fun to be around.

It is the person that made the nice comment that must be confused, not you!

Nicest is definitely either Vulkan or Sang.

Dorn should be seen more in the light of honest or fair, he didn't have a subtle bone in his body and if you asked him a question he would give you a no BS answer. That rubbed a lot of his brothers the wrong way since that's generally not how people interact with each other.

And because of that, his inability to read people hurt his relationships probably far worse than Lionel.

As yes, Rogal Dorn, the "nice one", who upon being met with Nathaniel Garros word of his brothers treachery, proceeds to beat him like he's made of soft cheese around his inner sanctum.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Kurze should have just finished the job when he had the chance.

Throughout the HH fluff Dorn was cold, calculating and driven purely by logic. Any and all were expendable in his view if it 'got the job done'. Or that is my interpretation at least.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

And in the next book he appears in, continues by executing a loyalist Thousand Son who has been separated from his legion for 100 years serving on terra and trying to deliver a message of critical import to the Emperor, just because of his legion.

He's a real top guy.

He doesn't seem bad at reading people. "Praetorian of Dorn" shows that he can see through Alpharius's tricks and games. He just doesn't care to play those games. He only interacts with people on his own terms.

Praetorian of Dorn showed him doing something he regretted, realising after the fact that Alpharius was most likely a loyalist and at the very least he should have heard him out, except he did what he always does and just made a blind decision. Killing someone before they can talk to you isn't seeing through their tricks and games, or interacting on your own terms, it's preventing that from even happening.

They're being sarcastic.

It's like saying Angron was the most level headed.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Also most people hate that novel as it was written as though the author was an Imperial Fists fanboy.

every John French book is like this. He treats villains like ass and then fanboys his personal favorites, like a smaller scale Matt Ward. He's my least favorite BL writer.

As to the OP, yeah Dorn was nowhere near the "nicest" primarch for any of the reasons that people have already listed.

HoundsofDemos wrote:

Dorn wasn't really honest or fair either. In Angel Exterminatus, there is a flashback where the Iron Warriors have a planet under siege and are meticulously cracking its defenses, spending thousands of their own lives to do it and generally fighting and bleeding for every inch of ground. Right when the final assault is about to go off, Dorn shows up with a bunch of Imperial Fists and without warning launches the final assault himself. He takes almost zero casualties because the enemy had been mauled so badly and starved by the Iron Warriors beforehand in preparation for the assault. Dorn proceeds to take all of the credit for capturing the planet and even goes so far as to say that the Iron Warriors didn't know what they were doing and were basically messing around and making a mess of things. To add insult to injury Dorn used the Iron Warrior's own battleplan in his assault and said nothing about it. Granted, it was one of Perturabo's memories so it should be taken with a grain of salt, but still... I can definitely see that happening.

The coolest thing that Dorn ever did was call Russ out on his hypocrisy for using rune priests after the council of Nikaea and after Russ wiped the Thousand Sons out for "breaking the edict".

Each Primarch is supposed to exemplify an element of humanity. That's part of the brilliance of their addition to the lore; everyone can find a Primarch with whom they resonate. Everyone sees something a little different in each one based on the stories they've read and their perception of the events therein.

I've always viewed Dorn as exemplifying honour, personal sacrifice, pride in a job well done, and strength of mind. Comparing him briefly to other loyalist Primarchs, I see Sanguinius as exemplifying martyrdom, innocence, purity, bravery, and to an extent naivety. I see Roboute as the primarch of vision for the future, strategy, nobility, education, and utopia.

I'm not sure any of them are the "nice" primarch. I definitely think that "nice" is a point of view that is too subjective for there to be a clear outlier.

Each one was designed to fill a specific role the Emperor needed of them, and to be the best possible person to fill that role.

That might technically make them exemplars, but certainly not always in a positive sense. Some of them are experts in pretty shady things!

I meant from a "reasons GW does things" perspective. Yes, in the lore the Emperor created them for a purpose. In reality GW cleverly bound each one to aspects of humanity to create affinity and an emotional connection, because people want themselves to be the hero - it's for sales reasons, simply. Whether they did this intentionally is debatable, but the outcome is difficult to deny.

Exactly. He even forbids chemical warfare for the Salamanders to use as there's CLEARLY no worse way to die, outside being lit on fire of course.
