I'm looking to clear coat my miniatures and the local hardware store has clear matt lacquer (the cheap kind, Spray Mate), does anyone know if this stuff will give me problems if I spray it onto citadel paints?

Probably not, but without knowing exactly what your store has, we won’t be able to answer.

Testor’s Dullcote has worked very well for me.

99% Sure it will be too thick for most models

fantastic for terrain though.

id say use testors unless you have an airbrush then alclad II Satin is the best imho.

Echoing Todosi and Desubot on the Testor's Dullcote. Worth the price to do several light coats with drying time in between applications.

I do use cheaper sprays for terrain (where quantity over quality is the most cost effective route).

My two cents,

CB

Did not consider thickness, thanks.

It appears I'll have to import testors around here.
I'll be able to get Rustoleum though. Any better?

Do a test on something else before you use it on your models, and you'll be able to see how well it works (or doesn't). Also, be aware the result you get from rattlecans depends on the temperature of the can as well as the environment, the humidity, and how far away you spray from - I've had the same clear matte spray work well, go frosty, and deposit opaque snowflake-like blobs. I use brush on varnish for my models now because that always gives a nice finish for me, but I know it's not for everyone.

Agreed with this.

With anything and everything YMMV. Always do a test even if it's community approved.

I've had good results with Krylon Satin Varnish for sealing models. It's all I use anymore because it's $5 a can, and I can't tell a difference between it, and the GW matte varnish.
