Let's say someone has a half painted army, is it better to just stick with the base paint they used or are there any matching paints in the contrast range? For my Tyranids, I painted my Dimachaeron with the OG paints, but rest of the army is still grey plastic. I want to use contrast paints for them, but will the Dimachaeron look a good bit different?

Also, does anyone have any examples of Black Templar contrast paint on Space Marines?

IMO if you've already started the army using the 'traditional' system you should keep with it.

I have an Iyanden Eldar army that I started years ago and left it with two units unpainted; a wraith lord and some wraith blades. This weekend I decided to finish these using the new Contrast paints. While I love the new Contrast paints, the look and feel of my finished Contrast models is totally different and (pun intended) contrasts the whole rest of the army.

Hmm good to know. Maybe I'll have some armies (Tyranids, Nighthaunt, biological) be contrast, and armored (Tau, Space Marines, etc) be traditional.

I'm going to be painting some Kabalites using the contrast orange, but based on some observations about the unsuitability of the new paints on larger smooth surfaces, I may need to paint my Venoms with traditional paints, and matching may be an issue...

If you have an airbrush, contrast through one of those has the same effect as a standard paint so matching isn't a huge issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly, airbrushing it a bit beyond me, I'm stuck with a bristly stick.

If you have like unit or two painted you could consider stripping the paint and then paint with contrast if you want to use it to speed project up.

Having experimented a lil with Gryph Hound Orange and Black Templar on a Kabalite miniature's armour, I am really happy with the results.

The combination of high detail, and small flat surfaces appears to be perfect for the contrast paints. The flayed skin loincloths, and weapons still look better with the traditional combination of base plus wash, but the new paints are a godsend to me, as I always found the Drukhari too fiddly to highlight.

I found that the contrast paint Volupous Pink is nearly identical to how I did my previous Pink Horrors. So...sticking with that. And Flesh Tearer Red looks better on Bloodletters since it gives them a nicer bloody look. Contrast is definitely a win for me for the little troops. Not so much the big guys. Those...doing them the long way.
