I have never lost to Nids since the combination of last IG and Nid dex, both written by Crudacce,,,,seems he rigged the nids to lose tot he IG slowed 'em down and made it easy for Guard to load out on fire-power spammification. Even my Orks rocked the Nids.

I've never played nids apart from a 500 point per player 3 vs 3, where I used my ally's guard as meatshields until the hordes dwindled and my raven guard flew in and took out the synapse creatures.
I started to collect tyranids (got I think 1500 points), played a few games with them (won every time against marines/chaos), but they just weren't my style, so I stopped. I still use them for practicing my raven guard on when I get a new unit at home though

i am sure it will help me... by the way... when you mix the GS... do you have a mix you prefer? the tip of the paintshaper is labeled hard...but feels rather soft still... i bet i wouldn´t be able to use a soft one atm... i really need to see how to best testdrive the shaper... any tips?
That depends on what kind of detail I am doing ? If it is a larger area I add 50-50 but then add a little more blue just to give it a more solid base, I do this as it is stronger and holds shape better but can be a pain to shape as hardens quicker.
Smaller detail and areas that need more sculpting add more yellow, this way I can shape it easier and it gives me longer to do it, also never roll it and then use it straight away I give it a few minutes once its uniformed in colour before I work with it.
Someone taught me the trick of given it a few minutes to cure before using it and it made all the difference, as for the shapers there are soft medium and hard plus varying shapes and sizes.
The one I sent you is good for large areas and I found the hard ended one was better for larger areas, the medium is good for small areas on minis and I use the smaller sized version.
Also the really soft tip I used for getting a smooth finish on areas with a lot of close detail that I don't want to rub out or over work this is also only in the small size.
Hope that helps with that sorry for the late reply but I was knackered last night .

What a great guy, that LDD I haven't gotten so much into the mix design (as LDD describes below), but the paintshaper takes some time to get used to. I would recommend a random side project or experiment first, not "that one perfect thing I've been dying to sculpt", if you know what I mean

Like I said, I'm not so familiar with changing mixes, but I've found that the leaving the GS for a few minutes is actually very helpful.
Good luck, Vik!

Yes, mix it up a bit Rawson it amazes me how much of a difference it can make when modelling, I found this out from one of the guys at my local GW store and was amazed at the results.
He also was the guy who put me onto the clay shapers, I was going to buy the GW sculpting tool at the time and he told me not to bother LOL sent me with a list of clay shapers to the art shop down the road.
Best advice I got to date I would say, really changed my sculpting skills.
Look at it like this the darker green it is the harder it forms, lighter the green softer it is and more manageable, but remember that when it is softer it takes longer to get sharper edges.
Also buy the GS in 2 separate parts if you can get, the stuff that comes joined has all ready started to cure, what I do when I get it like that (cheap on ebay) is cut the middle section out (use it if you wish for bulking stuff out).
Put the 2 separate colours in to sealable bags and put in the freezer till you need it (don't worry don't take long to defrost) this way it keeps longer.

sleeping is a must...so i´ve heard^^
the mix going into the more blue area i never even considered...will adapt to that for the right effect next time... for some reason i use way too much yellow...i am a very slow worker so i guess the extra curing time is all in the mix^^ so to speak... also i tend to work on multiple spaces /minis when i mix the GS... from the mixing my hands sometimes get very stained as i foind it quite hard to get it all even mixed...guess that´s why i tend to use more yellow...
i have a good feeling with the shaper and i think in about an hour i will start a sculpting session...

well the next as max always describes this on the honeydo list is making a hulk mini out of a lego mini for the kids... they are atm totaly hyped by the avengers (note an old TV cartoon series currentlöy on TV...) and they lack that extra muscle that the hulk provides...so i recruited an old lego...this one is a bit taller than standard lego minis and it will get covered as good as it is possible with gs to get me a hulk looking lego mini...cross your fingers... guess that falls uner the "that one perfect thing I've been dying to sculpt" ^^
thanks mates!

Green stuff I use comes in tubes like this.
They seem hard enough and come with little caps for the tops as well as a circle of what looks like foil to stop it from sticking to the lid and a thin plastic sheet wrapped around it to stop it sticking to the tube like all the other GS I've seen.

well max...we are here to keep your ego from going out to outer space^^
LDD...yeah i tried to stay true to that advice today... but i guess i did too much still^^ i try to be an overachiver but i lack the skill^^
at not_U : yep...that is the GS i currently use... stored that way is now the only stuff i accept to work with... i got cheaply some GW GS recently and i can only use it to fill sections with as it is almost cured in the middle between Y and B already... crappy way to sell reactive materials together???
at dave... nopr...i couldn´t bear butchering hagrid... he is one of my favorite characters... he was the one why i sticked to the books reading them in english...the german translated version lacks the slang hagrid or other characters use and i need that in a book... germans get so cramped when it comes to speech impediment...
so here goes...
that mini i used you connoisseur of lego designs will notice ...hopefully is a cop...a cop mini from an old range called jack stone...which i detest quite at large... the minis just look dumb in my view and lack character...which makes it perfect to do what i did to that mini...
which you see here at first in its natural state...
then...
i took off the cap...well in essence i effectifly lobotomized that poor fella...no mercy!!! off with his hat as the red queen would have said...^^
this reminds me a bit of that hannibal movie end...^^
then...the GS massacre started...
i sculpted the hair with a needle tool from my dentists tools...but the major work on the chest and abs i did with the new paintshaper provided by LDD...here is to you good sir!!!
next step would be to work on the neckmuscles..and the pants... i need to get that torn look and after that step...not before tomorrow i guess will be the sculpting of arms and back...
how do you like?
speak your mind as you see fit^^
cheers, vik

I think the abs are a little too defined (sharp edges I mean, not that he has done too many situps), but I think overall he's pretty awesome! Hair looks great, and it seems that you're getting the hang of the paintshaper pretty quick.

thanks rawson... the shaper took some getting used to and i am learning as i go along.,..that is the bad side effect of having chums all around the world... you can never have them around and telling you what is what when you do the stuff... but well it is as it is...and yep... i second your view here the abs are too defined... i need to get me some referrence shots ...or probably a catachan bare chested mini (we all know they are pretty much hulk looking anyways^^) while i sculpt to get a feel of what looks right...
the best part was tho that my kids recognized the mini already...^^ well the color of the GS helped there^^

well the next as max always describes this on the honeydo list is making a hulk mini out of a lego mini for the kids... they are atm totaly hyped by the avengers (note an old TV cartoon series currentlöy on TV...) and they lack that extra muscle that the hulk provides...so i recruited an old lego...this one is a bit taller than standard lego minis and it will get covered as good as it is possible with gs to get me a hulk looking lego mini...cross your fingers... guess that falls uner the "that one perfect thing I've been dying to sculpt" ^^
it will stay a toy for my kids... this also makes it kinda tricky...as it needs to be usable on lego bricks still after the sculpting work...so legs and arms need to be movable...
