Do you like the Primaris helmet design? I think it looks pretty good to be honest, but I still prefer the MK7 design. Maybe I just like it more because it is so iconic and was present in 40k for such a long time, but I think it fits the style of the imperium better. Also I'll out myself as someone who never liked the beakie helmets.

What do you think?

The standard Mark X helmet (as worn by Intercessors, et al) doesn't bother me, but I don't like it better than pretty much any other previous space marine helmet. I am still very much a beakies fan. I do really like any Phobos armor variant though. Maybe because it keeps the ridiculousness of 40k intact, but my favorite is the Reiver 'Skeletor' helmet. They perfectly encapsulate 40k and the IoM to me by being endearingly stupid.

the MK X Tacticus helm is basicly a stylized version of the MK IV helm with is a fav of mine so.. yes yes I do like it

I like them better than the VII. That just felt like a random change for no reason and the giant grille AND the cables seemed over done. The odd variant with the protruding muzzle was worse though (shows up in the BA tactical squad). I do like the more 'knight' styled variant from the same kit, however. (Though most of the GK versions are.... eh)

On the other hand, the Reiver helmet design and the Inceptor's blast helmets... Ugh.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

I find it boring. More so because it's just a knock off MkIV helmet...which is rather lazy to me.

I like them, as said, they're stylised Mark IVs. That being said, I kinda like the variety so I have given some of my Primaris Marines older types of helmets.

yeah was a smart move by GW to ensure comparability with old school helmets heads and shoulderpads.

I'm not really a fan of the Mk X helm, even though it makes more sense than the Mk VII.

Lazy, but MkIVs are the best helmets. I mean, I have a soft spot for beakies, but if you wanted MarkX to look good, riffing off MkIV is smart.

really the whole MK X armorset seems to be almost a greatest hits rendition of space marine armor design

No, but I also hate the Mk7 Helmets and the Beakie helmets. The only Space Marine helmets I actually like are the Grey Knight ones, the rest are awful looking and I prefer to go with bare-headed marines than helmets. [Fortunately, I'm Space Wolves, and have a lot of nice beady and hairy heads, so they're not bald]

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I like them but suppressors look better with beaks, intercessors/hellblasters look great with MKIII & reivers look cool with mkiv.
But overall the MKX helmets look good and also backward compatible with older mk's of armour so easy way to add subtle details to your marines. I'm not as big of a fan for the Gravis helmets tho. Just something off putting. might see how a termie helmet looks when I get more of them. the shoulders pauldrons from indomitus class tda fit & look great on gravis, maybe it'll work the other way around too.

I like how the helmets can pop the top off, leaving half the face plate—that’s very cool.

I think they're OK. They're definitely the most sensible looking helmet, but 40k isn't really supposed to be all that sensible. The iconic mark VII "aquila" is still my favourite though. I think the "gaping maw" look makes it look really intimidating.

Fairly nonplussed about them, I much prefer the MKII or MKIII helms and after that the MKVIII is cool.

It's the best helmet design, imo. The MkIV was my favourite, but this new version is a slight improvement.

The MkVII by comparison looks a bit childish and old fashioned.

I like the Mk.X helmet well enough, certainly better than Mk.VII, but it's neither Mk.III nor classic Mk.VI, so it's still nowhere near as cool to me as it could be. Probably is a good design to go with the rest of Mk.X, though.

Feel like they saw the popularity of the Calth boxes and decided that the upcoming "+1 Marines" needed these helmets to sell better. Personally I like the MK IV helmets so the MK X helmets have some visual appeal but it does feel uncreative to recycle a helmet design when most of the others had unique designs. That said MK VIII borrowed heavily from the MK VII helmet look but it might be a trend of GW being increasingly uncreative.

It´s a good sci-fi design but will never trump the helmet which the marines wore in Space Crusade.

My whole 30k army is Mk.IV, but I really don't like the Mk.X helmet. They took the design cues obviously but flattened the beak, which ruins the aesthetic of the Mk.IV helmet imo.

Or could it be that in a range that was originally designed to allow arbitrary part swaps from model to model the idea of having nine completely unique designs for every different bit of armour isn't actually that important? (The arms on V through VIII are pretty much identical, the feet haven't changed since IV, and I don't know that anyone's ever grumbled that the codpieces are all the same design.)

As for them only doing this in response to Calith, that's silly. GW's likely been aware of player preferance re power armor marks for awhile. forge world is proably a good indicator of this too "what armor mark is selling the most on FW?"

I doubt that any design decisions are impacted by what sells. Sure, the briefs for what to design may be impacted by what's sold in the past. E.g., "That Calth box sold really well, let's follow that up with another Horus Heresy box, but that Harrenhal box bombed, let's avoid Warhammer Quest boxes for a while," or whatnot, but the actual design? I think the design team just take what is probably a broad brief, e.g. "We want a new line of updated Space Marines to replace the old ones," and turn that into a design concept, e.g., "OK, the new line is going to be all modern; sleek and tactical looking," and run with that. I doubt there's any sort of connection between sales and individual design decisions.

I like the m VII better, but beakies are best.

Out of curiousity, does anyone make SW stormtrooper heads to replace the 40K versions? That'd be nifty to see "bulked up" stormtroopers - aka spacetroopers.

I like helmets with loudspeakers/grills. The terror caused by the amplified battlecry or the loud insults sounded by the marines and caplains as they charge in is cool. Beakies are nice because they look retro. The primaris helmets are very anonymous and evoces nothing, so I dont like them. I don't hate them either but I wont buy them.

Brutal, but kunning!

They're alright, I guess - but I'd echo that they are just rehashed Mk IV. I don't dislike, I don't enthuse. For me, the Mk IV (Destroyer), Mk III and the Mk V are the best looking. If I'm honest, the design features of Primaris I dislike the most are the Inceptor/Suppressor's foot plates, and the Reiver/Vanguard's strange greaves. They would have been much better off doing all the lower legs in the same style as the Primaris Chaplain - more form fitting to the leg, while still a little bulky.
