Every year I run a narrative campaign in my area. It is typically public. The linked file above is this year's campaign. This is our 20th anniversary running campaigns in the warhammer world.

This is a heavily houseruled version of Age of Sigmar, voted on by our members to use. I like to share it with others simply to give examples of events that are not competitive tournament events or leagues.

You know how books have quotes from readers saying how great it is? Like "most riveting story of the decade" or "touching on a deep emotional level" or "best book since that other book." You should do that but with quotes from the competitive guys about how much they hate it.

Really cool, I love reading stuff like this even though I do not at present have a group to play with.

Having read through it, I am reminded why your campaigns are so popular. Looks like another really fun ruleset you have come up with here. I've mentioned before not being a fan of alternate-unit activation, but IMO the terrain rules are a great change. Not having difficult terrain has in particular has always stuck out as a missing piece in AoS, 40k has it even!

The campaign rules are the real meat of this document. I can tell you put a lot of time into it and it shows. Excellent stuff.

As a heads up, I'm in the middle of running a league right now with awakened artifacts in it; keep a close eye on the hexflame pendant and realmstone wand as they tend towards the overpowered. The hexflame in particular can completely neuter armies in short order with a few good hex rolls early on.

I also read it and I am really impressed. I really like the Sudden Death mechanic as a risk/reward for people using some of the more overwhelming options available, I love the new terrain rules and I really like the look of alternating activations as a way to make the game both more interesting and more balanced.

Great stuff. The story and setting are very nice too. I may use this if I get an AoS group started in my school (some of the kids are interested, probably my best chance of getting to play!)

Thanks for sharing. Shows how easy it is to "fix" things with some house rules. Will be interested to hear how this runs.

Thank you for taking the time to review. I appreciate your thoughts.

We have been using alt activation for two years now. This will be our third year with it.

I would have been fine with pure igougo with no double turn but it was almost unanimous to do alt activation. One thing it helps a lot with is multiplayer games. The final battle has six players on a table and waiting for five players to go before you fully is the opposite of fun. I would have skipped multiplayer games with igougo.

These rules do (alt activation aside) make the game something I can enjoy a lot though.

The sudden death is out of core rules and i figured why not use core rules to solve the list disparity issues between powergame lists and casual.

It allows me as an event organizer to not have to police lists and tell people no, but instead puts a risk mechanic into going balls to the wall.

Its also pretty narrative in that a force so powerful as an adepticon list would not be fought conventionally. It would require nipping at it and winning small objectives over time.

It's a matter of personal preference. I don't personally like alternate unit activation but I don't count that against the campaign pack. We alternate by phase locally so halfway between your campaigns and normal; something people really didn't like was waiting around for ages during FFA games to take their turn, or getting hammered by more than one player before getting to do anything.

So you all alternate hero phase then move phase then shoot phase, etc...?

If yes - that was one of our options as well (basically copying Middle Earth structure) - that was what one of our players really wanted (but was outvoted)

I could dig that as well.

I note that the new apoc rules for 40k apply damage after both sides have shot as well, which is something i"m interested in looking at.

Yeah, everyone does their hero phase, then move, etc. Two combat phases (the second has reverse initiative) then battleshock. The second combat phase is considered a separate turn for the purposes of ability expiration (so buffs that only last one turn don't apply, units don't count as having charged anymore, etc).

I'd play in that system as well.
