Hey guys
I'm looking into getting a finecast Dante, because of the size difference to the metal version.
But use the original metal jump pack, the resin ones look misshapen, anywho with the slightly heavier pack will the model be able withstand the extra weight or should I pin it to the base?
Or am I being silly and the resin is strong enough, after all the jump pack doesn't really weight all that much

Epoxy resin is strong enough. But I would still pin between the Jump Pack and back for strength and that extra protection against an accidental fall off the table. As for the leg, as I remember if is one leg touching...I think I would run a pin into the foot and base to again add that little bit of assurance that the model will never sag at the ankle.
My two cents,
CB

Just see what the resin one looks like. Sometimes they're alright.

Finecast is not resin. Resin is durable enough that it would be fine, finecast will bend and crumble if you look at it too hard.

As if 'resin' is one single substance.
Away and gak.
Finecast is resin just as much as FW's offerings are resin. Both will bend and warp without provocation on thin parts.
Both are generally 'fine', so long as you take the same precautions you would with any other mini made of any other substance.

The question is, do you wish to handle the model with care and only subject it to moderate summer temperatures while keeping it out of direct sunlight? If the answer is yes, you still want to make sure that Finecast is not subjected to anything more than its own weight. Even that may be too much for it to handle.
Me, I wouldn't put anything as substantial as a metal jump pack on a resin Dante.

My Zarakynel lives on a south-facing window-ledge, in Canada, in summer and is covered in relatively heavy chains.
It is 29c today. Last week was in the mid-thirties. She was in direct sunlight the entire time. She is fine. You seem to live in the U.K., where sunlight is a distant-myth.
You'll be fine.
EDIT - It appears I misread the previous post. However, this is a Finecast Dante that I bought from Gifts for Geeks in 2012. He easily and happily survived summer temperatures in both the U.K and the Colonies, prominently displayed in direct sunlight in both. No metal jump-pack, though.
Again, you'll be fine.

Well on that note, when I get the mini I'll weigh the parts and possibly pin his ass inceptor style
Cheers all

You can probably tell that I used the Finecast backpack. It is crap, frankly. I'd use Sanguinary Guard wings if I did it again.
Or, just cut the Sanguinor's hands-off and attach a SG Axe and IP.

Honestly you are better off kit bashing than using finecast. Finecast is brittle garbage.

I'm not going to touch the mini after its painted, its going straight into the cabinet so being brittle is kinda moot.

All the more reason to kit bash then. Space marines have endless interchangable bits. You can make the guy in more or less any pose you want with any legs, chest, shoulders, backpack, weapons, head you could possibly want.
Kit bashing sm to make unique awesome character models is incredibly easy and far more worthy of display then some fine cast crap fest.

Maybe if you're a chemist and legally obligated to provide accurate product labels, but there is a vast difference between the resin used by most companies (sturdy, allows better fine detail than plastic, requires significant heat to deform) and fine (crumbles if you look at it too hard, casting flaws everywhere that obliterate detail, deforms at low temperatures if it miraculously doesn't break entirely). I love resin and have a full FW army, but I refuse to ever touch another fine "model". It's an utterly product designed to extract money as cheaply as possible from small children who don't care if their models look like .

If you were goin got be gaming with it, was going to suggest adding some weight to the front underside of the base to counter balance the jump pack, as it will likely fall over regularly with just the metal backpack.
