In a mood to paint some big models lately, and I’ve always loved the glottkin. Would I be considered “that guy” if I brought the glottkin to a 1000pt game?

Thanks

When wondering if you're "That Guy" ask yourself a few key questions

1) Am I knowingly cheating

2) Am I interpreting the rules in such a way that its not technically cheating, but really it is

3) Am I doing something that my opponent has politely requested that I do not do - most often on grounds that whatever it is is legal, but has won me all/most matches against that opponent

4) Am I knowingly playing a newbie whilst bringing a powerful list.

If the answer to any of the above is yes, then chances are you ARE That Guy.

Otherwise if the game rules allow it and you've no social or other reason to think otherwise; then go for it. Big powerful units in a small point game can be somewhat overpowered, but at the same time its nearly 50% of your whole force tied up in a single unit. This can make contesting objectives tricky because whilst you can likely contest one very well, you might not be able to hold two or three at once very well because you've fewer forces to move around. A smart opponent might even tangle up your expensive single model with a tarpit unit of their own that costs far less; sure they don't kill it, but they sacrifice a cheaper unit to tangle up near half your army.

It depends on the environment that you are unleashing that list on.

If its casual / narrative for fun night and you showed up with that, then yes some might consider you to be tfg.

If you're in a pick up environment with people that want you to go hard or go home, then no you'd be perfectly fine.

I’d rather face Glottkin in a 1000 points army than a 1000 points army with the Blight Cyst battalion. It was pre-Battletome and I was still green playing with them, but that thing wrecked my Fyreslayers. Rend on Blightkings is worth every penny, imo.

I could probably take it now though, and wouldn’t have an issue if you brought either.

As a veteran Nurgle player speaking; no you would not be. Part of Glottkin's strength is the force-multiplication granted by his command ability and support spellcasting. They rarely if ever make up their points in straight combat which prevents them from being OP at smaller point totals. As nels mentioned, a Blight Cyst at 1000 points is a stronger choice (which says quite a lot, it being a 200 point battalion).

Me? I wouldn't care.

Sure, the 1st time you did it I'd likely be caught by surprise as I don't know what that does.
I've got a deep collection for the factions I do own/play though, & the next game would be more equal as I'm sure I've got some answer. So I still wouldn't care.

But the people you should ask are those you regularly play with.

Ask your opponent rather than showing up out of the blue with it. TFG is fairly subjective and clear communicaiton with your opponent is the best way to avoid misunderstandings.

No. imho you can never be that guy because you bring a single model.

However, you ARE “that guy” if you bring 2 Keepers to 1000pts. Unless you and your opponent have already agreed to take the nastiest stuff you can. Then go nuts.

With Glottkin, I don’t think it’s that bad unless you also bring the Nurgle Lord on plague-pony and a lot of marauders/plague monks. That can still be a lot of bodies at 1k.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Context is everything. Morathi in meeting engagements, for example.

I think its simpler - you can never be "that guy" at the army building stage if the army you have built is legal within the rules of the game.

Everything beyond that is social agreements/conventions specific to your club and the opponent. They will vary considerably from group to group and even within a single group there will be variation.

This is a fair question. I was questioning whether I would be that guy for having a Chaos Mammoth in a 2k list...

Nah, I’d be cool with it.

Honestly, anything goes at 2K in my opinion.

It will always depend on your group and how competitive they are. The more competitive they are, the more likely they don't care what you bring since its assumed everyone is trying to bring a list that will win the game as quickly as possible.
