If you're looking for feedback on those three, I think the Krylon looks best.

Although the wash does atenuate some of that effect.

Thanks guys. These were posted so people could get an idea what the figs look like painted in different colors and to help me decide what color to paint the troopers (and Black Widows). The Krylon fig definitely has the best light to dark range, although I was going for a slightly darker gray (essentially panzer gray) as shown in the box illustrations. Will try another coat of wash and see what that does. Given what I have read in this thread about the storms, seems like panzer gray would be a good color for the troops.

The lightest color fig would be a good start on white or near white armor. With another white or near white drybrush, he would appear white.

The darker figs are studies for the color of the Black Widows. They are definitely on patchy side, probably because the final drybrush color is too light and I went a bit too heavy with it. Will try to tone it down with a darker drybrush.

This "Walmart Cheapo" stuff can actually work really well if you want it to. I built a spray box and the back wall was made up of a window fan, switch it on to suck out all the excess paint that normally clogs up the details and the effect is brilliant!

Yeah the cheap WalMart primer does work well for plastic models, although I would not use it for resin or metal kits as it does not have the bite (solvent strength) of Krylon.
If I need white, gray or black primer on plastic figs, this is what I use. It used to be 99 cents a can but its now up to $1.38

Don't like the new Krylon cans much. Krylon has recently changed their spray nozzles to a nozzle that flows far more paint per pass, almost too much paint for figures. It also seems to dry quicker, sometimes leaving more grain on the fig. I have some Escher figs painted with the new Krylon that I should have stripped before painting. :(

In Levi building news I have finally found a part of the model I hate. The ankle armor has become my mortal foe. I also found the thigh armor slightly difficult to find the proper placing for.

I'm going to echo SickSix in his EXCELLENT assembly videos (which I watched and reviewed extensively before starting my own build) and suggest you dry fit EVERYTHING.

Also the right most figs look freaking awesome timd!

Post it on the Dreamforge forums, there are others doing the same there. Keep it centralized otherwise Mark is going to have a ton of sruff to read and very little of it will jive with the rest, meaning its nice but next to useless.

Also apparrently you Marine types have a tendency to use Marine jargon/naval terminology (ex. "Aye aye, sir") when writing about army type units without realizing it... gotta keep you guys in line ;P

While I hear about Krylon a bit, I couldn't tell you if it cost 50cents a can or $50 a can. I was going purely on the mid-grey shade and the mild but not over-the-top contrast shown with the drybrush and highligts.

Agreed.

Just came back from my FLGS. They had ordered 2 Levis, 2 full squad boxes and 2 Riflemen boxes last week. Only a single riflemen box left this afternoon.

So I think I have my painting plan worked out for my pair of Levis.

Under carriages will all be in what used to be called bolt gun metal, this will be with a gray krylon primer on all surfaces. One Levi will be painted OD green with a "military" theme, and dark blue livery on one shoulder, other accent colors here and there. This Levi when being used for Ironcore will be in my mind an "Imperial" Crusader, attached to a permanent unit of the standing military force. The second Levi's gonna have black and reds in a lot of places with a 'black knight" theme. The leviathan will be from one of the independent houses that owes fealty to Eisenkern. For 40k the explanation for the different color is "haters gonna hate"

Site has a 40% off coupon for Minitaire paints. I think I might pick up the Ghost tints from them, it's a good deal.

Thank you for the link. Ordered and paid for. Means I can't afford my Anvil order this pay, but needs must when there's a 40% coupon offered.

Great looking minis Mathieu! The Crusader is very nice. I think it's one of the first to be near completion in anything other than a stock scheme. Any camo, or is it all the dark yellow?

Has there been any rules released or other factions? I think its funny the guys have SW stormtrooper/TIE pilot faces. I would have a hard time not painting the faces black like a TIE fighter pilot helm. Would look good in camo I am thinking. Prices are pretty good, will have to see what develops as far as rules and other factions go. If they are just as well constructed aesthetically, they might have a future on my painting desk.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs

No Rules yet. That is one of the things going on soon, a development group for rules in this setting.

There are like 6 factions at least. Eisenkern is just hte first to get models in a KS.

So far it is only the Dark Yellow, with paint chips, oil leaks and I am going to use more weathering pigments on the bottom. I'm enjoying it immensely. Much more than if it had been resin, I believe.

Thanks for the info, it looks pretty cool. Hopefully it will be an alternate activation game instead of one side goes then the other. I would be interested to see models for the other factions and perhaps what the vehicles look like. Going to be a hard decision between this and Warzone 4.0

The game dev. forum should open later this year, I'm betting there will be long threads about activation.

Sure, models for other factions would be great, but give the man a chance to eventually catch up on his sleep! This is more or less a one-man show at the moment.

He does raise a good point. Someone paint up a Shadokesh and get it on here!

I (mostly) assembled one of my Leviathans over the weekend and holy is that kit amazing. Other than the part where I fail at reading pictures, it went together like a champ. Yes, you should definitely dry-fit everything because there's such an insanely fine tolerance on everything; as an example the soles of the feet actually snap on with no glue. Obviously glue would be a good idea, but it illustrates how well WGF executed the design. It turned out beautifully even with my ham-fisted modelling skills and slap-dash approach to anything.

If I can convince the local game store to carry them I'd buy another one at full retail. Got to have a full lance you see...

I assume models for the other factions have at least been 3D modeled before this kickstarter ever went live. Having a single faction's models(as awesome as they are, Until Lucas sees them) is a great start but who are people going to play against? Is the game still in kickstarter mode or is it live? Just one guy is running the show?

Yes, DFG is one guy, Mark Mandragon.

Iron Core is meant to be a game eventually, but first and foremost Mark designs minis.

There will be other factions, he will be doing Kickstarters for them when time allows.

He's already started putting out feelers for artists, writers and game devs.

I am going to start painting a couple test Stormtroopers today - they'll likely be in a variation of the black and red (with blue-grey accents) that my Chaos Space Marines are in (since they will be "Cultists" for my CSM army...)

Will post pics as soon as I put paint to figs!

Really enjoying the sculpts and the ideas behing Ironcore. Currently awaiting my order for the Levi and Stormtroopers 20 pack. I think this has a lot of potential and really hope that people give it a chance so the range can continue to grow. I missed the initial Kickstarter for plastics as I am currently deployed, but will definitely keep my eye out ofr further KS chances.

On a separate note concerning the Dhar Hazier artwork; anyone notice how much the face looks like the little demon thing from Stephen King's Catseye movie? Love that face!

If successful, and if the rulesets are fun, I can see this game giving me the impetus to finally push away from the GW conglomerate!

Totally agree Kane, been slowly pushing away from the 40k table for about a year now(trying to cut down to two armies from 9). If the rules are as solid as these minis then I see great potential. Besides the initial website, is there any fluff written yet?

Happened to me last night .. Have to say this is a pretty durable kit.. no damage, and the things that came apart were just the arms, legs and torso that I never glued anyway, so all I had to do was snap everything back in place

Phew glad it was OK!

The initial versions of the fluff are available at: http://dreamforge-games.com/game.html I believe a VERY early version of the rules was available from their forums before they died, but I didn't snag a copy. Mathieu might have read some and can provide insight on the direction, though I expect the exact shape will change as the backers get into the game's development.

I would mention that as a one-man show that editing the text on the site is somewhat secondary to getting the product out for the KS backers, so there will be typos here and there. He is looking for writers and artists and other creative types though, if you would like to help out in that regard when he gets clear of his CAD dungeon.

As far as other factions go, I've browsed through the various photo albums and he has some pretty extensive things. What goes to which faction and how all that will translate from concepts to final product I can't say. I also don't recall seeing tons of examples of what I'd call "alien stuff" but he clearly got the Shadokesh out for the KS quickly enough so I'd say it's safe to say he's got a lot of stuff behind the curtain still.

I changed my mind on the white scheme and did this test last night. I think I have a winner. I still have to highlight the gun and clean up some areas, but this is what I am planning on going with:

Love it. I like the edging on your colours. I would paint the gun a different colour, though. Your mini looks great, but the gun makes it look incomplete.

Is the shine from the paint itself, or the sealer on it?

I've only just got started on mine and will be glad if I don't see wave 2 until July as that will give me time to finish my wave 1 stuff and a couple of other projects I have ongoing at the moment.
