Interested in this one with all the infantry deals on offer, they're fantastic bargains. I may pick up one just to paint. However I'm hoping to start to see these sort of starter sets on the website instead of waiting for the next kickstarter.

They'll be there soon - at the prices listed (£10 higher).

I *think* Rob's just waiting to get them all painted up, ready for display, before unleashing them on the world via the Mierce website.

They've been coming soon since the first kickstarter. However it does seem like we're creeping closer to a time when I can tell my friends buy a Darklands starter set, crowd funding free!

Also a bit disappointed the break point occurs at the five warband mark. Would have been nice to see something inbetween wanting one and wanting five.

Update #1

Sep 22 2016
Infantry Starter Hosts!

Due to popular demand from just about everyone, we've worked long and hard to bring you some fantastic Infantry Starter Hosts to bolster the armies of every kindred out there - or get you starting one!

Led by a commander, each Infantry Host features an infantry unit (usually ten strong, with full command) and a monstrous infantry unit (usually five or three strong) to batter your enemies to death with. Each infantry host is around Encounter Battle size, or around 499 gold, and so give you a game that lasts around half an hour to an hour, depending on your experience.

These Infantry Starter Hosts will eventually be released later on this year or early next, although we reserve the right to change some of the contents should better ideas enter our collective heads.
GET A GREAT DEAL WITH THE "FIVE INFANTRY HOSTS" REWARD!

There's a fantastic saving with the "FIVE INFANTRY HOSTS" rewards (in metal or resin), if you're after more than one host! Pledging for this reward saves you over 50% from purchasing the contents of the hosts individually.

Host and Individual Costs

Increase your pledge by £70 (£80 RRP) to purchase an Infantry Host in metal (although any 60mm monstrous infantry units within that host will always be in resin, as denoted by the red "resin only" text next to the unit), or £100 (£120 RRP) to purchase the Infantry Host in resin.

You can purchase the units within the host individually, as noted underneath the graphic and in more detail here:

£6 metal (£7 RRP), £10 resin (£13 RRP) - Ciniod, Eadric, Thera, Carys, Urien, Equitus Durio, Caitrín, Brunchaath the Vile, Kraan, Wihtwald, Eirik Longaxe, Hedroc, Death-Melusine Rose (30mm bases)

£90 resin (£100 RRP) - Fireborn of Gwaelod, Craven Fiends of Dis, Beasts of Síleann Fen, Roaring Srónax, Trolls of Norrheim, Ruinous Abhorrents of Ys (60mm bases)

Note that you are only given 10% off the individual RRPs - we want to make you purchase the hosts!

Some Infantry Hosts Can Ship in December!

Many of the Infantry Hosts are effectively pre-releases here - with them being just about the same as the eventual released host last on this year or early next. Any host that does not have the yellow "Wave 15" or "Wave 16" banner can be shipped in december, in either resin or metal!

Here's a full breakdown of what can be shipped when:

Wave 0 (December 2016): Albainn Gairlom (metal or resin) - Angelcynn Duguth (metal or resin) - Anglecynn Gesith (resin) - Brythoniaid Teulu (metal or resin) - Byzantii Legionarius (resin) - Byzantii Demilegionarius (resin) - Érainn Tuanagh (metal or resin) - Fomoraic Gabrax (metal or resin) - Fomoraic Warriors of Baalor (metal or resin) - Jute Wihtgār (metal or resin) - Norse Holumann (metal or resin) - Ysian Ax-Drune (metal or resin)
Wave 15 (February 2017): Anglecynn Gesith (metal) - Atalantes Oplites (metal) - Brythoniaid Rhyfelwr (resin) - Byzantii Legionarius (metal) - Byzantii Demilegionarius (metal) - Ysian Sword-Melusine (resin)
Wave 16 (April 2017): Brythoniaid Rhyfelwr (metal) - Ysian Sword-Melusine (metal)

Bear in mind that we may be able to ship components from the hosts separately if you have enough shipping, earlier than the times indicated - for example, the Brythoniaid Rhyfelwr infantry unit can be shipped in Wave 0, if you have purchased two shipment items.

Are those the same infantry hosts from the Metal Age KS? from what I can recall they've had two different Infantry Starter Hosts per faction, one during Metal Age and another during Savage Hordes 1 and 2.

Edit: after taking a look back, it does indeed seem that most of these contain basically the same models as the Metal Age Starters, minus the bonus couple if characters they gave you in that one... but they've gone and added more monstrous Infantry to most sets, so even with a £10 price hike (£60->£70) these seem like absolutely fantastic deals!

More of Chaaruch

Again, there's just one miniature to show for this project this week, and again, it's a cracker from Michael Anderson!

The lovely Chaaruch is now officially amazing, which was never really in doubt.

Spoiler:

One thing we forgot to mention last week was that Michael's doing the unarmoured version of Chaaruch first, and then we'll cast him, and then he'll do the armoured version... which means you can get hold of unarmoured Chaaruch at some point in the future!

I'm glad that I'll be getting the armored version of Chaaruch:

£20,000 - Trolls of Skarheim, Felltroll Unit

With Darklands: Savage Hordes III Part Deux now funded, it's time to bring you the first of (hopefully many!) stretch goals. Here's the long-awaited Trolls of Skarheim, Felltroll Unit, set at £20,000 to unlock!

Increase your pledge by £100 ($130) to purchase three Felltrolls; £70 ($91) to purchase two Felltrolls; or £36 ($47) to purchase a single Felltroll.

£10,500 - Unarmoured Chaaruch (limited edition)

Let's bump that total along with something new - and close! - for you all to pledge for. Here's the STRICTLY LIMITED EDITION Unarmoured Chaaruch, set at £10,500 to unlock!

A mighty Gul-Gabrax Tain of ill repute, Chaaruch the Despoiler is armed with a nasty-looking war-sickle and halitosis. He's between 40mm and 45mm to the eye, stands on a 40mm base and is an Uncommon, Wild Warchief of the Fomoraic who Compels both Gul-Gabrax and Gabrax into battle!

Unarmoured Chaaruch can be shipped as part of Wave 0!

The sculpt for Unarmoured Chaaruch is already with us - Michael Anderson's work on Chaaruch the Despoiler from the Darklands: Savage Hordes project means he had to sculpt the unarmoured version first - and so he can be shipped as part of Wave 0; i.e., immediately after this project ends and we've received your payment.

Here's the sculpt itself:

STRICTLY LIMITED EDITION

Unarmoured Chaaruch is strictly limited edition and only 250 of him will ever be produced in resin. He will be presented in a numbered blister pack and will only be available for a short time after this project ends and only to backers of this project. We reserve the right to use him at shows or events, if we have any left out of the 250, but he'll never be released on our webstore or to the general public.

Increase your pledge by £20 (resin) to purchase Unarmoured Chaaruch!

I think he just needs a little dental work to get those teeth sharp and less...goat-like, and he'd be quite nice! Rob notes that little point sharp teeth probably wouldn't survive the molding process, so...it will be up to whoever buys him to do the custom work themselves!

(I'm glad I got the armored version that was offered as a mini-bundle a campaign or two back!)

Update #140

Sep 30 2016
Florus

We were wrong last time - this is the penultimate update for Darklands: First Edition II, as (despite Florus not really being a part of this project) we included him here anyway...

This week we have:

sculpt work in progress images from Juan Navarro Pérez;
a list of what miniatures are currently being sent in their various waves;
an updated list of sculptors and sculpts for this project;

...and anything else you can expect from us over the next few months.

Let's begin!

There's just one miniature to show today, by Juan Navarro Pérez, and after that there's just the one. So that's one more update left for Darklands: First Edition II, everybody! Huzzah!

Florus is of course an Ancestor - a miniature created for a backer of one of our projects who is called a Descendant - but it's been worth the wait, because Sebastian Volkmann (known as Nergal on our projects) has joined John Longshore, Tomas Johansson, Max Schüte and Rick Boer to bring us a fantastic Friesian sorcerer!

Taught by the Gyptians (where his father traded - Frieisians are legendary merchants), who has returned to his homeland of northern Europe (Friesia) via Rome to escape the Sassanids, who are if nothing else a bloodthirsty lot. There he met his future wife, and his mystic abilities and insights into the flow of battle and the future itself have established him as a valued advisor, ensuring that he has gathered not a little wealth.

Artwork by Danny Cruz

Seb wanted Danny Cruz to draw Florus from the very beginning and he didn't disappoint... we think he's going to be a superb miniature!

Florus is armed with a scalding-hot sword (obviously sorcerous) and a seax-dagger, and wears a fur cloak over leather armour and greaves. He also has a shield, slung over his back.

We think he looks very cool, especially as Florus looks like he's just about to Invoke a pretty mean invocation. We pity the recipient...!

How can I purchase Florus?

Florus is available to purchase in resin from our webstore, in the Darklands: First Edition II category, at the special Kickstarter price of £10.00. You can also purchase him from the Darklands: Savage Hordes category in metal or resin, at £6.00 and £10.00 respectively.

Sculpted by Juan Navarro Pérez

Juan has performed another wonder of miniature form with Florus!

We're anticipating Wave 15 for Florus delivery, as he's not done yet and Seb may request a few changes. We'll see!
Who were the Friesians?

The Friesians resided in Friesland on the north-west coast of modern day Belgium, Netherlands and Germany, and their descendants still have their own identity and culture, much of which survives intact. The Friesian language is still the closest other language to English and, in fact, it is said that West Friesian can be understood by English speakers almost as if it were a dialect, and vice versa of course (although pretty much everyone in the Netherlands speaks English like a native).

Thus, as may be thought, the Friesians in 650AD are very similar to the Angles, Saxons and Jutes of that time, and many Friesians migrated to the British Isles during the Dark Ages along with those other invaders, just in scattered groups settling in various parts of the country. That being the case, and the Angles of Darklands being shape-changers, so are the Friesians. The Saxons and Jutes are shape-changers, also; although most Saxons (along with the Northumbraland Angles) have found the One God and denounce it, in 650AD.

So what do the Frisians change into? Well, Florus himself is not a shape-changer (although he may decide otherwise, later!), but many Friesians are, and they change into oxen - and of course cattle are very much a part of Friesian history. Thus, the Friesians become Weroxan, the singular being Weroxa. However, the Friesian shape-changers, unlike the other shape-changers of Mierce, Beornica and Eoforas, often do not choose when to change - they simply change when threatened.

The Friesians will eventually become a kindred in their own right at some point over the course of the next few years, but for now, we have Florus (thanks to Seb) and of course Rikkard (thanks to Rick Boer)!

Update #63

Sep 30 2016
Sozzled, he was

It's a Friday, and there's an update here! Wowser!

This week we have:

sculpt work in progress updates from Juan Navarro Pérez;
an updated list of sculptors and sculpts for this project;
a list of what ships, when;
...and anything else you can expect from us over the next few months.

Let's go!

Again it's just the one miniature to show this week - from Juan Navarro Pérez - but it's welcome all the same!

Another of our Drunken Companions is nearing completion - Sozzled Caedoc of the Brythoniaid! No strange to wine, is our saintly abbott...

Sozzled Caedoc should be a Wave 15 shipment.

Eleven Infantry Hosts have shipped / are shipping!

Eleven infantry hosts from this project have been shipped - the Albainn Gairlom, Anglecynn Duguth, Brythoniaid Teulu, Brythoniaid Rhyfelwr, Érainn Tuanagh, Fomoraic Gabrax, Fomoraic Warriors of Baalor, Jute Wihtgār, Norse Holumann, Ysian Ax-Drune and Ysian Bow-Drune Infantry Hosts - as well as the individual miniatures within them.

If your hosts from this project haven't been shipped by now, that means you either:

don't have enough shipment items to justify separate shipments or you don't have any shipment items at all;
or you have some resin miniatures on order which need to be cast.

Note that if you have purchased similar infantry hosts from other projects, such as Savage Hordes or Savage Hordes II, we will only ship what we can (as many of them are different) and they are not guaranteed to have been shipped with your items from this project - and again, it depends on your shipment items.

Update #41

Sep 30 2016
Alix of Carn Bran

It's Friday! It's Mierceday! What more needs to be said?

This week we have:

sculpt work in progress updates from Stéphane Camosseto and Yannick Hennebo;
an updated list of sculptors and sculpts for this project;
a list of what ships, when;
...and anything else you can expect from us over the next few months.

Here we go...

We've a couple of miniatures to show this week, for the Anglecynn and the Sell-Swords, and they're both going to be brilliant!

The Ceorl (pronounced "Churl" as in church) are taking their sweet time but Stéphane Camosseto is on the case!

A warrior of the unit, Sweyn is looking very cool indeed. Stéphane's really good at the windy hair look!

We're dearly hoping that the Ceorl will be shipped this year, but it's unlikely. Say hello to Wave 15, Sweyn...

The lovely Alix of Carn Bran is our fantastic Beast-Master sell-sword, able to bring almost any monstrous beast to battle with her to fight for YOUR kindred. It's early days, but the shape is there..

Alix will hopefully make it into Wave 14, but she may be Wave 15. We'll see!

Wave 12 and 13 shipments have begun

Waves 12 and 13 have begun, but it's early days yet. We will try to get everything out as soon as we can, but there's a lot to ship - and as always we prioritise orders in date sequence; i.e., if you ordered early, you'll get your stuff sent early.

What we're saying, basically, is - please be patient! We are doing everything as fast as we can without compromising on quality.

Metals will ship at separate times

Something we have spectacularly failed to mention is that the metal versions of miniatures will ship at least one wave later than the resin versions; it takes a while to get them ready to be cast in metal.

Now that we're used to working with the external casters we can give you a little idea of what goes on. Usually, it takes at least a month to get the master metal moulds from sending the miniatures to them; and then we must check these masters for errors and then either amend or okay them. Then they go into production, which takes another month.

Whilst we are using a metal caster that are second to none in terms of quality, they are so busy it can take a while to get miniatures from them!

Update #59

Sep 30 2016
Humans and Once-Humans and Beasts

Update time, yay!

Darklands: Savage Hordes II, yay!

This week we have:

sculpt work in progress updates from Allan Carrasco, Jason Hendricks, Juan Navarro Pérez and Valentin Zak;
an updated list of sculptors and sculpts for this project;
a list of what ships, when;
...and anything else you can expect from us over the next few months.

Here we go...

This week we have something for the Albainn thanks to Valentin Zak, Brythoniaid thanks to Juan Navarro Pérez, something for the Byzantii thanks to Allan Carrasco, something for the Érainn thanks to Valentin Zak, and something for the Ysians thanks to Jason Hendricks!

The fantastic Gnith is now a reality, thanks to Valentin Zak. He's a big lad, too - we've decided to make him a tall bugger, around 33mm to the eye, if only because we can.

He will definitely be a Wave 15 shipment...

The lovely Carys gets a scout's cloak to become Hunter Carys, all thanks to the ministrations of Juan Navarro Pérez!

She will be a Wave 15 shipment I would think.

The amazing Allan Carrasco has been working hard on Flail Onumo and the results, rather predictably, are amazing.

Get in! He'll be a Wave 15 shipment...

Ahhh, Valentin Zak. We love your work so much! Crístóir, everybody's favourite mad priest of the Irish, is everything we could have wished for and more.

Jason is cracking on with the Corruptors of Kraozon with Grung almost complete...

Grung is looking great now, all fleshed out and tonguing.

Just to remind you all what he will look like when he's done...

Grung should be a Wave 15 shipment!

Skorpions!

Update #8

Oct 3 2016
£17,500 - Vul II Tykho, Skorpion Minor Vulgus

We've had an excellent weekend thanks to two stretch goals knocked over, so it's time to bring you another update to go for - at £17,500, it's two new Skorpion Minor to create the Vul II Tykho, Skorpion Minor Vulgus!

The two new Skorpions complement the already available Tykho, of course, to create the Vul II Tykho unit; you can pledge for the two new ones if you already have Tykho, or you can pledge for all three of them as a unit, or even Tykho on his own!

Increase your pledge by £60 ($78) to purchase three Skorpions; £50 ($65) to purchase two Skorpions; or £27 ($47) to purchase a single Skorpion.

Six-Legged Tykho

As we're creating two new Skorpions we've decided to give Tykho six legs rather than the original four. If you're one of those who'd like to upgrade your existing Tykho to have six legs, they'll be available to "purchase" as an optional extra in the Kickstarter category at a price of £0 - all you'll have to do is stick them on. If the body needs changing a fair bit, we'll change that too, but we're hoping to ensure you'll only need the two new legs.

Good to hear about the Tykho Leg Fix here too, as I initially held off on purchasing him partly because of that - well done there Mierce!

Yep, that's it - the Brute-Beasts win!

They'll be £100 for the 3, and £36 each. Danny's finishing off the graphics this week so I'll pop the stretch goal up when I get them!

Updates:

Update #9

Oct 5 2016
£25,000 - Beasts of Uthard, Brute-Beast Unit

With £15,000 just about upon us - and so Grachdu unlocked - it's time to bring you something else to aim for. There's plenty of time left in this project to get hold of the Beasts of Uthard, Brute-Beast Unit, set at £25,000 to unlock!

The Brute-Beasts are massive, disgusting monstrosities that are effectively larger, more powerful, nastier versions of the Brutes. Standing on 80mm bases, these guys will slaughter any battleline put in front of them, pretty much - and whilst they're Feral and so relatively uncontrollable, that means you just point and let them go...

Increase your pledge by £100 ($130) to purchase the Brute-Beast unit!

Update #10

Oct 5 2016
£16,250 - Dugrach, Cawrdraig of Dugadw

As we're just about to unlock Grachdu - the Cawrdraig banner bearer for the Brythoniaid - at £15,000, we thought we'd give you the opportunity to grab his alternate, Dugrach - at £16,250 to unlock!

Dugrach is of course an alternate of Grachdu, with his banner replaced by a double-handed war cleaver, rather like Aradae Mawr.

Grabbing Dugrach and the other two does of course mean you can field a unit of three different Cawrdraig warriors, and as it'll be a long while before another (very different) Cawrdraig is funded we highly recommend you do so!

Increase your pledge by £50 ($65) to purchase Dugrach on his own - or any of the other Cawrdraig on their own, too.

You can grab two Cawrdraig for £90 ($117) - any combination of the three, we suspect you'll use this for Grachdu and Dugrach - or you can purchase all three at a huge discount - £130 ($170), saving you over 30% from the RRP!
