Hi guys,

I am after some pointers for trees.

So, basically I have quite a bland looking table, everything is grey ruins, grey bunkers, grey everything really, its all very monotonal.

I have ordered another battlemat which is a little greener than the current one (the Battlegound from gamemat.eu) so what I would like to do is incorporate some trees and bushes and greenery in general around my table to give it some colour variation and make it more interesting.

So, what I am after.

Ideally....

Some trees that I can just buy, UK seller, website or ebay, whatever. Something I dont have to build, or put on bases, literally just get it out of the box, on the table. Trees that are not too green. So what I mean by that, there are plenty of model trees, normally for train sets etc, there are very lush green. These wont look good on a wasteland type terrain, I am not after dead trees as such, but browny colours, maybe autumn shades etc.

I know you're looking for a quick solution...but if you expend even a tiny bit of effort, there is a much easier/cheaper way.

Step 1) Buy some Woodland Scenics armatures: (these come 15-30 in a pack depending on how tall you want them - they can be 3-5" or 5-7" etc. --- see the item when you order)

Step 2) Clip them off the sprue, slap the little base on with some glue and bend the branches around to where you want them (it's a flexible plastic material)

Step 3) Slap on any kind of base you have available, dust it all brown or grey, or whatever you choose. Dry brush the tree armatures if you're in the hobbying mood.

Step 4) Flock the base as needed.

Step 5): DO NOT do the glue/flock method for the trees. Simply buy some woodland scenics (or similar) Lichen in whatever colour combo you want, they even make it blue, beige, red (autumnal), etc.

STEP 6) No glue, just drape the lichen on the trees as you see fit. This means you can remove it later and change it for seasonal changes (or yank it all off and use it in the dead of winter)

Stupid easy, and stupid cheap.

Example use on a 40K table:

I haven't tried this myself, but you could probably take some model-railroad trees and lightly brush on some olive green and tan paint to make them less verdant.

Dipping them or using a cheap DIY wash (followed by dingy "highlighting") would probably also go a long way.

I managed to find the exact same tree kits on amazon so order one set of the 5-7 and one set of the smaller and will get some lichen at a later date.

I think this will work best becuase as above, lichen comes in all colours, I can get browns etc to make them look a lot more wastland.
