I'm afraid to even admit this, but I'm considering re-firing a Robotech project now that some alternative models are out to fill in the gaps left by the douche-bag delivered half-ass Kickstarter from Palladium.

As my favourite IP, probably ever, it's always been comforting knowing that a fully fledged Robotech game was essentially impossible. This saved me a feth load of time and money. I used to run some conventions using expensive 1/200 old plastic kits from the 80's and 90's...but they were just that, one-off convention games.

Now it seems it may actually be possible to run an entirely legitimate game of Robotech if the new Kids Logic stuff is worthwhile. So, to that end, I'm curious what peoples sources are for Robotech styled buildings in the right scale. I know there are heaps of Battletech players out there, but I'm looking for more of a Macross style (similar to Japanese office buildings, with some flare for consideration).

Are there any particularly good sources? I don't believe Tomytec makes their buildings in Z-Scale (which is 1:220 but would fit fine with the miniatures). I'd even be fine with some 10mm stuff (TT Combat has some Macross-esque looking options). Just looking for ideas, maybe even 3D files that I can convince my buddies to test-print for me. What are some of the go-to companies for mech-sized terrain?

There's also DFA, but let's just say that they're currently in the "Kickstarter makes a bunch of money and then goes basically silent" phase of their business plan. Perhaps avoid until that's cleared up.

Thanks for the responses, so far. Pretty much a list of the stuff I'd been glancing at. Monsterpocalypse looks okay, but a bit small scale. The plastcraft stuff is nice but expensive (and wouldn't match the rest of the stuff since I'll probably end up in MDF at some point).

GameCraft was one I'd looked at a while back and might try out. I think the main issue is that with smaller scale, the differences in resin, MDF, etc. become more obvious, making it harder to get a quality looking table - something I'm really keen on. Was hoping there was a nice Z-scale company making a full line of buildings, etc.

Will toss all these in the folder.

3D printer?

Ok, bit of a chunk of cash to begin with (~$250 will get you a really solid terrain printer) but it will give you access to a bunch of stuff that can be adjusted in scale to fit if it isn't already correctly scaled, and once you're up and running the printed items use pennies in filament to actually make.

Hirst Arts has started producing molds for 6mm scale. The Star Fortress molds (#312-315 and 415) are specifically science-fiction, while the Castle Cube molds (#370-372) and Ancient Street mold (#412) can give you a more gothic style.

Sankei z scale - search eBay with that - they have a few buildings that might work in a Macross (sorry Robotech ) setting

Awesome, I'll start looking. This is a loooong term project so I'm in no rush. Just wanting to start gathering the bits. When I do a project, I tend to "really" do it, so it'll be years of collecting/painting/assembling, etc.

I to watched robotech back in the 80's before I found out where it was from, then I fell in love with the original macross and mospeada series more than robotech.

Where did you get the white building with the two ribbed towers? And is it resin as it looks like? I would be interested in that and similar designs for Dropzone terrain.

I've hit a bit of an impasse. I want "nicer" buildings than most of what I'm seeing, and the Sankei are actually card buildings (which I may try).

I was just really hoping one of the baller Japanese companies made modern Japanese style buildings in the scale. I may try a scale up and see how horribly it offends my sensitivities.

Yeah the only small plastic stuff I've found is a handful of buildings from Rokuran, etc.

I may have to see what I can find in the larger scale and see if I can cope with it as terrain or not. Frustrating

They should be. I've got those marked. I used to have a bunch of the burn-in-designs stuff. TT Combat has some nice 10mm stuff which would likely be passable. I was more interested in a modern Japan aesthetic (Robotech kicks off in the late 90's...despite being a science fiction show), which is where I'm struggling. At this point I may end up abandoning that goal, but we'll see.

N scale is a little large, but if 10mm is "close enough" it might work. The Tomytec stuff is technically twice as big as RRT, but is OKish if you're not paying too close attention. Unfortunately, Tomytech is pretty much exclusively N scale trains, cars buildings, they don't make anything smaller (or larger, for that matter). I've wanted to get a bunch for an urban Heavy Gear table for some time now, but I just don't play much in that scale.

If you REALLY hate yourself, GW's Titanicus terrain is generic enough to use at that scale.

If you’re okay with titanicus terrain, a guard sells the modular plastic 6/15 mm terrain by Troublemaker games. It’s pretty versatile.

Yeah, I'm avoiding any of the 40K stuff as it's super gothic. If this was a normal game project I'd probably be fine with whatever...but this is my passion project, so I really want a neo-modern Japan style for a decent Macross representation.
