Subject: An improved edition of Highlander 2? What sorcery is this???
Okay, lets not lose our heads now - Highlander 2 is a disappointment compared to the first film, but sometimes, just sometimes, a film is given a new lease of life.
Apparently this is the 2004 edition of which I have not had the pleasure of previously, and while I enjoy the theatrical edition mainly for nostalgic reasons(it was released shortly after I discovered 40K for the first time) this is a dramatic improvement, and its obvious that Highlander 2 was the victim of a strange curse at the time when studios preferred movies that ran no longer than 90 minutes in length. Still crap compared to the first movie(oh no, we're not letting it off the hook), but the gulf between the two films is not as distant in this cut.
Its strange seeing certain scenes in such a wildly different order, but its definitely for the better and some of the new scenes put more meat on the bone. The vfx has been cleaned up with CGI and the picture quality is quite nice too. Anyway, here it is...

Highlander 2 isn't all that bad of a movie for its time, it's just a really, really bad Highlander movie. If it wasn't trying to link the alien exile elements to the established mythos and we just had two alien exiles without any baggage embarking on a standalone adventure I doubt we'd still be talking about it, but at least it wouldn't still be talked about for the wrong reasons.

oh but there was, and whilst they are terrible (3 is a passable rehash of 1), the fall of the franchise into 'too good for cinema', 'too good for dvd' and 'straight to syfy' was kinda of darkly amusing
will give the re-cut a go

As a big fan of Highlander: the Series, the movies never moved me much one way or the other. To me, the franchise is all about repetitive sword fights and Queen music.

Well, actually it was three!
The first is a solid and entertaining movie and the third is good-crap, but the second breaks the story so much that it cannot be accepted as part of the series. The cut above(sorry, no pun intended) almost fixes it, but there is still issues such as if they send people into the future to become immortal...Connor was born into his clan - he didn't just materialise through time travel.
Katana using digital technology in the distant past also seems a bit odd too, but if they have time travel back then, then I suppose they are advanced enough for computers too.

Five.
Even if you discount any that didn't feature Connor, it's still four.

Oh, the tv-linked series movies. I personally have not watched them myself, but the series and Raven were fairly decent. Adrian Paul was quite funny in some flashbacks, and the series did have a visit to a GW store at one point. We'll cut it slack for that...
End Game is ok, it has that "made for TV" vibe about it, but it has Duncan and Connor on screen together, and a reasonable story that largely colours inside the lines of the mythos.
The Source I think suffers in the same way as number 2, in that it probably suffers for trying to be a Highlander film, and would likely be better if it had just been made as a standalone sci fi film. It still wouldn't be good but it would probably be better.

Everyone should watch The Source, its just comically terrible and makes no sense at all
Recently saw it and had never even heard of it before.
Comically terrible is an understatment. It made 0 sense, was shot like a terrible DTV music video, and the action was all jump cut nonsense. It was nice to see a few familiar faces but honestly, not worth my 90 minutes+ of attention.

indeed, least Endgame had Faith, why you'd trade her and your immortality for dead-eyed drip Anna was even sillier than orbital wobble, pure of heart and all the rest of the suck (think Az13 had a point I suspect it was a turn of the millenium sci-fi script mangled into the Highlander mythos)
