Looking to see how popular the PA books are amongst dakka folks, thanks in advance.

I am not bothering with the PA books or models - although Mephiston was tempting and I have a few Blood Angels.....but I did buy the Sisters box set which if you look incredably carefully has an ultra faint Faith and Fury logo.

Whilst I am scaling 40K back a bit, even if I wasn't it would be a pass for me.
It strikes me so far as being directionless - from what fluff I have seen, albeit very little.
|
Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

I'm on the fence personally, if RotD has a good update for DA I'll get it, otherwise I'll probably just stick to the skirmish games until the next edition, because the two factions I love ( DA and Necrons) have been trash this edition.

Honestly, as far as these books have gone I've taken to sailing the seas. Truth is we're being sold a lore book with rules sprinkled on for sales. There should have just been black library books released beside thick rule books, and rules set up like indexes (astartes, chaos, Xenos, etc)
I didn't really care about Phoenix rising, faith and Fury, blood of baal, and I'm trying to not care about ritual of the damned since I have GK and all. But anyway large scale rule changes shouldn't be scattered all over the place. There should have been one Psychic Awakening rule book with accompanied black library books.

Looking at the contents - there was a lot more rules than lore - but I agree a rules compliation and decent sourcebooks would have been welcomed by me at least.

I have bought Faith and Fury with the new model (chaos sorcerer) since I play chaos and was somewhat interested with the lore, but it was a huge disappointement. The model is great, like most minis that got out with the PA books imo, but everything else was just a waste. That book is a complete waste of money with gakky lore and 4 pages for each heretic astartes legion with only the bare minimum.

I think that is most people's experience. For instance, I would love to start an iron warriors army, I really dig obliterators, the demon engines, and the craziness of the iron warriors fluff, but I already have two trash tier armies, and have zero interest in making that three. FaF was supposed to bring Chaos space marines back into relevance, but failed spectacularly.

There are some absurdly good stratagems for Alpha Legion and the Word Bearers but the rest is subpar. And that's actually one of the biggest problem with how GW is developing things right now, adding stratagems and relics to specific armies : since they refuse to streamline the number of relics and stratagem every army have access to, some armies have an absurd number of stratagem and relics at disposal ( SM of course is the biggest exemple of that) while others still have the bare minimum.

I haven't bought much 40k at all lately, but the only way id buy a PA book is if they release something for a faction i play, and it was good. even then, it's for the rules.
im really sitting on my hands as most of my favorite factions are slated to come up soon, while others i just don't know as to when. once this current PA book passes, then i can start getting information im interested in. there's been nothing to interest me personally since it started.

I bought Phoenix Rising without having either a CWE or DE army. Happy to say, I got my start collecting box for DE; I'll be getting the DE Battlebox and one more unit of wyches, and that's everything I need for four Kill Teams that combine to make detachments which combine to make an army.
Lots of campaign play from 3 boxes.
I will buy Faith and Fury- I want Emperor's Children extras whether they are game changers or not. Anything to make Emperor's Children feel different than other CSM. Especially if the new combines well with the Dark Apostle or Master of Possession. Some of the other stuff will no doubt be useful, though not at the moment.
I might buy Blood of Baal; I have a small force of Blood Angels- the Terminators from Spachulk. I like the Mephiston model, and I'd be willing to add a unit or two to create a small army for SOUP/ campaign play.
I also have a bucketload of purestrains and aspirations to put together a small nid force. I have a legacy broodlord and a legacy hive tyrant and easily enough purestrains to turn those 2 HQs into a battalion. Again, I'd add a unit or two over time.
I do plan on getting the Grey Knight one, and that will mean getting the Grey Knight codex and a small force. I know they're hurting, and I know PA alone won't do as much to fix them as we need. But I love the Inquisition, so I need a detachment of both Grey Knights and Deathwatch so the Inquisitors can SOUP with their Chambers Militant.
Hereticus I've got covered- Sisters are my primary army, and I've got Karamzov, Greyfax and two other Hereticus Inquisitors.
So I am pretty much all in, and not only that, PA is giving me the gentle push to buy things I've always wanted, but never bought.
I like having small collections of many factions so I can supply friends who like the game but can't afford to play it for an afternoon. It's a bonus when those small forces can combine to make a mid size army and the midsize armies can SOUP their way to Apocalypse scale.
Something like PA is brilliant for people who play many small armies but not great for people who play one or two and want to win tournaments.

I'll pass thank you.
I've got better things to spend my $ on than rules tidbits for every army sprinkled over however many volumes Pa is slated for.
If I wait patiently they'll all be folded into their respective codices eventually - likely come next edition.

I got Phoenix Rising, the Drukhari half of the Blood of the Phoenix models, and (sort of) the Blood of the Phoenix book.
It was relevant to one of my main factions, I wanted the new Incubi, and it (along with the battle force) have been a lovely way to kickstart my new army.
I thought the story was alright, and the ending left a fun and interesting hook...
All in all, it was nice. No complaints, but it was nothing to write home about. I like the missions. Though it maybe helped that I didn't buy into GW's EARTH-SHAKING AMAZING CLIMACTIC STORY WHERE NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME!!! hype. Decades of reading post-crisis comics have left me with severe cynicism about "events" in corporate-controlled genre fiction.
I also checked out Faith & Fury and Blood of Baal, because I also collect Sisters (and they're my secondary Big Project for this year, after Drukhari), and Blood Angels are MAYBE my fav chapter (with White Scars vying for for the position, and Salamanders very, very close behind). I definitely found F&F disappointing (it didn't even come with a named character model, just a new sorcerer), and while Blood of Baal had some tedium to it, it was still mostly interesting on the lore and fiction side, and it sounds like people actually playing BA (rather than just wanting to) are getting a lot out of it. Also I like the new Mephiston!
(I'm also REALLY confused regarding the timeline, and how the hell Guilliman arrived that far from the Nachmund Gauntlet, Primaris in tow, with a full Indomitus force, almost IMMEDIATELY after the Rift opened??? I thought it finished opening more or less around the time he fought Magnus, made it back to Terra, and had - at best - only JUST started mustering the Primaris / Ultima Founding / Indomitus Crusade??? Shouldn't it have taken him DECADES to get to Baal? At least a few months, even if you're accounting for the Warp screwing around with time and having Bobby G arrive years before he left????)...
All in all, I don't think PA will do anything particularly grand or important except in maybe the Thousand Sons book, and the final one. So far the only big reveal isn't even a reveal, just teases, re: Fulgrim's return.

Well, I buy the PA books when needed.
The Aeldari book was nice but its not a must-have even if you play them.
Ynnari rules were also in the WD and I only plan to include Yncarne into my Aeldari armies.

I can't answer this with the above options.
I love Psychic Awakening (and Vigilus, its predecessor)
I want all the books just to have them. Because they're cool books.
I don't have $300 to drop on books that I want.
I will buy the books when I have disposable income coming out of my ears. (Probably never but maybe someday)
For now I just enjoy the free bones Warhammer Community is tossing to us poor dogs.

I don't really buy much from Games Workshop these days. Not because of some personal reason, but because they haven't released anything for any of the factions that I play. Psychic Awakening is the same. None of the factions I play have seen any releases yet, so I've not bought anything.

I'm just quite happily tootling along without them tbh. Not terribly keen to buy a whole extra book just for bits and bobs of rules, nor do I have any interest at all in Primaris Marines or how GW are "progressing" the "story" of 40K – it was perfectly fine as a setting before they decided to try and turn it into an ongoing narrative.

To me all the stuff released is just a chance to pick up models at a discount. I do not care about the progressing storyline, which I consider to be about the same tier as fan fiction. I expect it will in no way live up to the hype.
I do not have any Eldar or Dark Eldar, so I am mildly tempted by getting Blood of the Phoenix on a discount. Overall, meh.

I suspect its the last GW book I'll part with any money for
The fluff is pretty terri-bad
The rules seem like rules homework rushed and handed in just in time, the Eldar stuff is mostly ok, but barring a few custom traits the Dark Kin stuff is stunningly awful, no HQ options, options that make Kabalites merely bad at melee rather than so awful its kind of a clue not to, the Cults and Covens have some decent choices but giving up existing options is questionable

Sometimes I feel like I'm not reading the same books as the rest of you. I really liked the Black Templar rules in F&F, I wish the rest of the Marine chapters had been handled in similar fashion instead of the over-the-top Codex Suppliments. I'd also been contemplating whether the Classic Marines that I never field anymore would be worth using as Renegades to cover the weaknesses in the Slanneshi Daemon list I'm slowly building, I think the extras that Emperor's Children got out of F&F make that look a lot more viable.
I'm very much looking forward to what Custodes and Daemons get when/if their turn roles around.

Perhaps where you're tripping up is that not everyone plays Marines.
I believe you 100% that the Black Templar rules in F&F are outstanding. However, I don't play Black Templars, I play Dark Eldar. And the Dark Eldar rules in Phoenix Rising are utter pigswill.
