Subject: New AoS Aelfs - do you think they'll be "normal" sized?

I'm pretty excited about the new Aelf models, but hoping against hope they haven't been Sigmarized (i.e., supersized to 40mm or whatever their new scale is...)
I've not bought any models since it was clear their humans and orcs would now look ridiculous against my embarrassingly large collection of 30mm "old school" games workshop figures. But then recently I noticed some of their figures aren't too big - the skeleton faction for Underworlds, for example.
Does anyone have any inkling whether or not these Aelfs will look OK next to the older, "heroic-scale" figures from my Isle of Blood and before era Elves? I see they made an underwater elf faction, are these guys 30mm? Or are they also giants?
I've got excellent metal models from their goofy bygone days and so much ~30mm goodness that I just can't bring myself to buy their newer, bigger stuff.
Fingers crossed and thanks in advance...

I don't think so. They might be scaled slightly larger but the infantry appear to be 25mm bases so I don't think it will be a noticable difference.

Buy any Idoneth infantry and you'll find the scale they'll be in.

Fortunately AoS hasn't had any scale creep so far. The scale creep was primarily in 7th-8th fantasy and AoS has remained level from where WHFB ended. Compare Kharadron (or Fyreslayers minus mohawk) to the 8th Ironbreakers/Hammerers, compare Warcry cultists (as actually regular humans) to Empire Infantry, and so on. Things like Stormcast or Ironjawz aren't a scale increase; they are bigger dudes. Just like a giant is bigger than an ogre who is bigger than a human.

Lumineth infantry look like they're on 32mm base to me. Comparing their scale and amount of base size they take up compared with a Skaven Clan Rat or Warcry Cultists. If the Aelves were on 25mm base, that would make the Aelves TINY.

This is good to hear...
I had some of the new Tzeentch beastmen and cultists, and they're absolutely enormous. I got rid of the cultists, just too silly looking next to my other 30mm cultist type figures, but the beastmen can serve as giant humanoid monsters, or Beastmen bosses (I really liked the sculpts, even if they were big)
So it's nice to know that some of the humanoid sculpts are still in line with the older 30mm plastics and metals. And your points are well taken - some of the older metals are a bit smaller than the ~10 year old plastics. That scale creep wasn't too bad for the most part. But the giant stormcast eternals and orruks just look silly next to my GW armored knights or plastic orcs.
Cheers! Automatically Appended Next Post: Kanluwen wrote:Buy any Idoneth infantry and you'll find the scale they'll be in.
Rather than spending $$$$ on a box of infantry I don't want, does anyone know how these guys scale up against Isle of Blood elves, for example? Google isn't helping me find any comparison photos...
Thanks in advance

There was a bit of confusion with Kairic Acolytes and people thinking they were supposed to be the new 'normal' sized human. Their fluff is that they transform into a perfected (for a human) body in combat, something that wasn't quite made immediately clear on their initial appearance in Silver Tower. But since then we have many stories featuring them being killed and reverting to old men, hunched workers, etc.

Well just b.c IDK got a scale up doesn't mean everything will or did.
Look at Nighthaunt, OBR, and some other armies that are newer, their core (Battleline) are still small like, still a true 25mm scale. Sure they might be slightly bigger than than old models, but not out of the realm of same size.
So really its a tossup if they will or wont. But IMO they will be roughly old size. I think so b.c the Horse sizes compare to their base size.

I think Lumineth will also get some Elite Infantry that may be a bigger scale than the spearman and horsemen we've seen so far.
I'm thinking possibly more hollow armoured warriors for example (could be the souls who escaped from Slaanesh, with no body to return to?).

I would also point out in regards to the image that the Slaughter Queen originally made her debut in Warhammer Fantasy so she is at the scale she was intended for in WHFB.

Slaughter queen looks the same height as those namarti to me. She's just thinner in figure and thicker in hair, which has always been a witch elf thing.

Yeah, when one looks at the Slaughter Queen's torso, arms, and head--she looks in line with the Namarti.
It's the legs that throw it, since she's wearing fitted leather boots rather than boots with greaves on top of them.

They will be normal size. Despite what people think the "Scale creep" is less about the size of the model and more about the fact that they are no longer constrained to a 20mm square base. Their feet are spread out more and their arms are out wider because they have room to be more dynamic.
