Looks pretty wild.

Horror/Psychological thriller is kind of my thing.

Definitely a different (and better, judging from the trailer) approach to a Universal Monster movie than Tom Cruise mummy debacle.

Out in 2 weeks.

This is supposedly take 4 at trying to kick start the "Dark Universe" shared universal monster verse.

I really hope in the post credits Dracula Untold or Tom Cruise Mummy makes an appearance.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

On the bright side, it looks like a better movie than either of those.

On the downside, it looks like a Hallmark movie with higher production values and I already know how those end because they all end the same way.

I'd been jazzed about this once since I first saw the teaser. My only concern is that it might be a little predictable.

I feel sort of bad they had to abandon the Dark Universe... I like all of those IPs. On the other hand, both the Mummy and the Werewolf movies were pretty not great and if that is how they were going to be, then maybe we could have lived without Frankenstein. et al. Still, that was my my last best shot at getting a new Creature from the Black Lagoon movie.

It doesn't help that the trailer seems to lay the entire plot out in front of you (as they now seem wont to do) when a viral marketing campaign that hid elements of the plot could have been really effective.

Just started watching the Handmaids Tale, so this looks pretty good. I hope the Psychological terror is as real as its implied in the trailer.

It has good reviews. I think I will make the wife go see it.

As far as I can tell they are no longer doing that and this is in no way connected to that but is a self contained story.

Harrassment with Rape Overtones the Movie

It'd be a new low for Hollywood if it wasn't the standard plot of a lot of movies, from Horror to 'RomComs.'

That oversimplifies the plot, and there is little rape in it

Also its the invisible man. Stalking, rape, terror... Thats kind of the whole thing.

Which is why its 'overtones.'

The linked trailer doesn't provide any plot. Some dude who can now turn invisible, for no reason, harasses... some woman, for no reason.

I mean, it's your prerogative not to like the movie. I don't like sports movies pretty much ever!

But I think maybe the movie actually does give you some of the reasons you are claiming don't exist, probably. I mean, I think just from the trailer you know why he's harassing this woman "for no reason". I think by the... 12 to 20 second mark, even.

Sounds like Hollow Man, but if no one believed Elisabeth Shue, which is kind of an interesting take to me.

There's another trailer out that reveals a lot more. Not sure if it's online. I saw it at the theater, and it lays the entire plot of the film out.

Yeah, trying to avoid that one

I hate this new trend where the trailers utterly ruin the movie. I don't really remember this happening even 5 years ago, but it seems to happen a lot now.

'He was always a psychopath, monster and obsessed with controlling me' isn't a reason for why the harassment is happening, let alone the invisibility. It just makes the harassment even more of a problem, and the character should have been in prison (or fed something that disagreed with him) long before the movie started. It doesn't explain anything, other than 'monster is monster before transformation.'

There's still no compelling reason to do 90-150 minutes of harassment footage and jump scares that ends with either an axe to the head or no verifiable body depending on how they want to sequel bait the ending.

You could do an interesting Invisible Man story about alienation and gradual insanity. But there is a lot less merit in 'how horrible people actually behave, the movie, now with invisibility powers for extra squick.'

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

But "how horrible people really are" is pretty much a staple of cinema. Look at literally every zombie movie ever, where the zombies aren't actually the bad guys.

I don't think "superpowered gaslighting" is as common a theme as you're couching it as. But it does continue kind of an interesting evolution for superhero movies: we started out where the origin story was all important, and then we moved on to the teambuilding stuff and kind of blow by the origin story as much as possible, and now - with New Mutants coming out soon - we have a horror movie that just happens to have superheroes in it, but their superpowers don't actually appear to be the main thrust of the story. So, normal storytelling, but with supowerpowers in there as a plot point - kind of an interesting direction to me.

Just going to throw this out there, but honestly, would any of us stay truly "good" if we were bestowed even a moderately useful superpower? I think it would only be a matter of time before we started to abuse it, even if we didn't do anything totally villain like.

Now throw those powers on a person that is all ready unhinged. Someone that only stopped previously because they knew they'd get caught.

I just got out of this.

1) Best version of Invisible Man in cinema. Easily.

2) HARROWING. This movie is nerve wracking. Cinematography is top notch. Acting is great. Special effects are near flawless.

3) One of if not the best movie i have seen in quite awhile. This movie is really great. Not a fun time. Its a edge of your seat horror movie in exactly the way horror should be.

Now I'm annoyed with myself - I planned to see this last night and was too lazy to at the last second.

I'm aiming for Wednesday night now, stupid work.

I saw this movie today. They called it The Invisible Man, but they could have also called it ‘how to perfectly adapt a literary classic to modern sensibilities whilst remaining completely faithful to the source material and scaring the gak out of the audience in the process: the movie’. I absolutely loved it!

It really makes me think of how they could do the same to the other Victorian sci fi stories; Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, The Island Of Doctor Moreau and so on.

Saw this today, and yeah, this is a pretty great movie. It was... well, exactly what Future War Cultist said: a perfectly adapted classic.

I don't think I want to go into details but I would like to say that Voss was generally wrong in the post above, save one point. They totally explain the invisibility, it doesn't revolve around jump scares (although there are a couple, I think any movie with invisiblity as a plot point has gotta have them), and it's closer to the interesting story you thought it could be than what you thought it was.

The one thing that was right, and I don't think this is a spoiler, is they never explain his obsession. Which is funny because

Spoiler:
the main character literally asks the same thing.

So, despite the fact I liked the movie, I do have some nitpicks because I am that kind of person:

Spoiler:
I don't believe when the points the gun at the cops at the counter, and then turns and leaves the hopsital, she would have made it out alive. They would have shot her to death the second she turned away from them and started walking away.

I also don't think I believe that invisible bro would have been able to beat the hell out of the super jacked cop quite so easily. Sure, had he ambushed him completely, I buy it - but for a minute there, they were grappling, and it was like the cop was grabbing a stone pillar that wouldn't move. That cop was ripped AF and if he grabbed a 150 pound man and yanked, that guy is moving.

When they were at the dinner - for a guy who had 2 suits, he seemed awful unconcerned with where the second one was. Why couldn't he find it? They established earlier you can monitor what the suit sees remotely.

How exactly did he fake his death? Whose body was that?

Really glad I saw it in IMAX.
