I am starting an Imperial Knights army and I can't decide if I should make my army Imperial-aligned or Mechanicum-aligned. I would choose mechanicum instantly except I was wondering: do the adeptus mechanicus serve the imperium like space marines, or do they just make stuff for the Imperium? Post below

The Mechanicum is pseudo-independent in that it has its own command structure, internal security, leadership, etc. and is subject to a lot of its own rules, but it is part of the Imperium. The double-headed Imperial Eagle's two heads represent the union of Earth and Mars, though I can never remember which is supposed to represent which.

Arguably, they serve the Imperium, although in practice they tend to be their own bosses.

AdMech Knight Houses will be a little better outfitted and maintained, but subordinate to a larger command structure.

Questor Imperialis houses, on the other hand, are more wealthy and thus able to supply themselves. They tend to be more individualistic.

I second this. You haven’t really played 40k until you’ve had your knight rampager crush a repulsor executioner in its hand and then throw the wreckage at a nearby character. You also haven’t really played 40k until you’ve had your stupid giant melee-only unit repeatedly shot off the table turn 1.

In seriousness, some of the chaos houses are also pretty interesting, as well as all the wide open possibilities of what a dark mechanicus house could be.

I run Metalica Skitarii units alongside Questoris Mechanicus (custom) Metalica.

Looking to add a termite & a couple ornithopters to fill with Hoplites & Peltasts. The new robodogs look dope so when my Bloody Rose are finished, back to work on Mechanicus...

If I were you, I’d get some Mechanicus- if only because there are some really nice colour schemes. Nowadays, most of the Questor Mechanicum are red/white/black (House Krast, etc).

However, back in the days of Epic 40k, there were all sorts of colour schemes, most of them incorporating a massive amount of heraldic insignia (I like painting this kind of thing, you may not, who knows).

Also, if you feel like giving your Knights some infantrymen, you can just buy some Skitarii and paint them in the colours of your chosen House- which is rather easier than buying greatswords, handgunners, genestealer arms, Admech heads and gun barrels, IG parts etc etc.

See that stuff above? Completely true. All of it, every single word. Stands to reason.

If you want to play fluffy, Secutarii are Titan Guard.
No better match then have them screen your Titans/Knights from enemy infantry...
