Hello there,

I'm new to the forum and I have to admit,

I have a problem..

I came back to wargaming about 4 years ago after 15 years away.
Since then its been a constant itch that needs scratching. But as
a roboticist and maker, when I look at something, I tend to see past
what it is and see what it could become. Which leads to some rather
unconventional armies, with at least 50-75% converted and often
still being converted. oh and erm... 90% unpainted... one day...

Broadly speaking I have 3 collections:

Imperium Robots

This includes models for Adeptus Mechanicus, 30k Mechanicum and Imperial Knights.
This is my most conventional set models, the majority being as sold or the odd gun or
head change here and there.

Apart from a scratch built R/C Triaros Armoured Conveyer (more info to come) and a
series of converted Knights. Each a different take on what a knight could look like, the
first I have images of is below “The Old Man" Knight. Made with armiger legs, a regular
knights torso and a carapace made from several shoulder plates in the vibe of 30k
Mechanicum. I need to fill the waist out and finish the right hand.

He has seen battle, with the grumpy old fella exploding in the first turn. But that wasn’t
enough for this stubborn old knight setting off some ancient tech to seemingly curse the
battlefield as across both armies in total 3 knights, 2 armigers and a Landraider followed
suit and exploded in the remaining turns.

Dark/Exodite Ynnari

Starting as a Drukhari only collection, I have begun expansion into craftworlds.
However I was disappointed to discovered that Haemonculus Coven cannot be taken
in a Ynnari army.. so out of spite my current line of conversion is making Wraith
Constructs as Coven.

This started with the Wraith Knight

This is mainly the wraith knight kit rearranged with some milliput to fill out the torso
and combined with a spine from a talos and extra arms from a skaven verminlord.
I still have to do a more detailed pass on the sculpt and add spikes/blades to the back.

Wraith Lords are in progress and wraithguard to come following the following a similar
template to my Wraithblades.

These are all stock wraithblade/guard parts. They need a pass with milliput to blend
parts together and to give a detail pass on the head to fit the Coven vibe.

Wracks and Cronos also got the conversion treatment recently

Wracks made using Delaque Gang bodies with reaver heads and a variety of kebal and wych
arms and weapons.

Cronos made from Plague Drones of Nurgle with a few arms and the face from an
actual cronos. I spent a couple of hours with a blade removing the majority of the
nodules from the nurgle parts

Skaven

The most conversions going on here as I play a skaven in 40k as a proxy ork army.
I use models from across the games workshop range as well as the mantic games
Veer-myn range. So below are some of the creations, most need a final detailing.

Ghazghkull Thraka - Daemon prince body and Verminlord head

Nob with a WAAAGH!! Banner - Tech Priest with various skaven bits

Trukk - plague furnace

Shokkjump Dragsta - veer-myn Tunneller

Morkanaut or Gorkanaut - Verminlord and metal warp lightning cannon

The following don't really fall into a direct orc comparison but that doesn't stop me..

Vermin Knight - Knight with Plague Furnace, doomwheel, armiger and Leviadon parts

Gargantuan Nest -
Foam, Card, Wood, Veer-myn Tunneller, (Old) Raider, Screaming bell, Citadel Wood

This only begins to scratch the surface, but hopefully you guys begin to
understand my problem...

I welcome all enabling comments.

More to follow if you can take anymore.

Wow, these are all pretty awesome. Rather eager to see what else you have in store for us.

I too find converting and modeling "easier" than painting. That is, more enjoyable really, simply because the techniques often seem more intuitive to me. That being said, I don't get anywhere near enough hobby time to really explore much myself.

Personal problems aside, again, great work!

Keep up the great work!

Thank you guys for the kind words.

I took these photos and wrote this late last year, but reasons meant I only posted it this week.
But what that means is that I've had a couple more months of work on the skaven.
With one of the most difficult concepts to work out, how would skaven build flyers?

But first lets run through a few more units new and old.

Gretchin (x120 new) - Clanrats, Plague Monks and a variety of different guns

Boys (x120) - Veer-Myn Night Crawlers

Burna Boys (x20) - Veer-Myn Night Crawlers

Kommandos (x10) - Veer-Myn Maligni

Boss Snirkrot - Veer-Myn Nightspawn

Meganobz (x16) - Veer-Myn Nightmares

Flash Gitz (x10) - Veer-Myn Night Crawlers, Plague Monks, Doomwheel

Kaptin Badrukk - Warlord Chieftain

Tank Bustas (x10) - Veer-Myn Night Crawlers

Big Mek - Veer-Myn Master Creeper

Stormboyz (x5 new) - Skavenblight Scramblers and Sicarian Infiltrators

Boss Buzzgob - Road Hog and Verminlord

Battlewagon - Wood and a couple of plague monks

Grot Mega-Tank (new) - Waplightning Cannon, Screaming Bell

Morkanaut and Gorkanaut (Update)

I recently took my unmodified Vermin Lord and swapped out its weapon (before)

After

Verminknight (Update)

Finally worked out how to complete the back and carapace.
Using parts from the Citadel Woods, "The Bell of Doom", doomwheel

The other major update is a second weapon arm using the warplightning cannon.
this arm has all three points of articulation unlike the others meaning it can be either a right or left.

As well I play Rat Ogres as Nobz and Stormfiends as Killa Kans
So this is a size comparison of several units

Morkanaut, Verminknight
Killa-kan, Warboss, Buzzgob, Gaz
Gretchin, Boy, Big Mek, Nob, Meganob, Nob w/ Banner

So as mentioned above I have been pondering for a while how skaven would attempt to build flyers.
I first imagined them, similarly to humans, discovering the technology balloons.
So clearly they would just strap a balloon to a big gun, hence my Warpblimb.

Its a slow process cutting, forming and gluing the card into the frame,
luckily the skaven are not master craftsmen so precision is not a requirement.

Then while staring at the plague furnace and warplightning cannon kits I had a eureka moment.
I am really happy with the results

Time for a big update..

Firstly I have picked up a paint brush for the first time in a couple of years,
I have never been fond of painting so I though I would give contrast paints a go
and I seem to be getting on with them better than my previous experience with
the regular paint range. I wont be winning any painting competitions any time
soon, but its nice to see some colour amongst the sea of grey plastic.

Here are a couple of the works in progress.

Now back to the conversions..

Since the last post GW went and updated the Ghazghkull Thraka model and
datasheet. which obviously meant that I had to follow suit as my current gaz no
longer cut the mustard. (below)

This finally gave me a conversion opportunity for the Thanquol and Boneripper
model. With some work done to the torso to repose the four arms slightly and
a verminlord head swap. Combining all the separate guns into one large
amalgamation and giving a pair of clawed fists. Paint job wip

And as a comparison of old vs new

Having used Boneripper I had to find something for Thanquol to do.
In a stroke of lucky ebaying I was able to pickup "The Caller" necromunda
model, that was incomplete missing the rider and tail, It was in a £20 bits box
bundle, barely visible in the photos and not listed in the description, bargin!

Together they play in my army as proxy for Zhadsnark da Ripper
the forgeworld named character on warbike 'Da Beast'

Now that I have replaced Ghaz the old model moves to being a warboss
which meant I needed to make another warboss of similar size.
This ended up being complete amalgam of parts, verminlord head and arms,
Rat orge arms as legs, the alternative chest of the demon prince and between
30-50 giant rats and rats swarming over his back.

the next challenge was to make a deffdread proxy. needing to be
- larger than the stormfiend which run as killa kan
- similar size to the new Ghaz
- smaller than the verminlord which run as Morkanaut

From the skaven range that left the Hell-Pit Abomination.

After some staring I realised that there was opportunity within that
one kit to make not only a deffdread (front half) but also a
Megatrakk Scrapjets (rear Half).

Dreads - Using the front half of the hell-pit as the torso, each dread
has a different arrangement of arms and legs from a variety of kits.
Most having de-horned verminlord heads, with one retaining the
hellpit head. the two primed models are yet to have their tails added
so you get an idea of the amount of milliput used to fill the holes from
the splititng. D also needs a foot.

A:

B:

C:

D:

And a comparison against a Stormfiend / Killa kan

And others

Scraprats aka Megatrakk Scrapjets - Using the rear half of the hell-pit and
the head/heads from the hell-pit, some stormfiend armour as a saddle
and eventually a greyseer as rider.

I have Started on my third Morka/Gorkanaut Verminlord

Group shot

A Deffkilla Wartrike

Deff-Koptas

My Verminknight is getting a couple of friends in the shape of a couple of
armigers, This is in an early stage, the legs are a borrowed set and will be
replaced with converted and reposed legs. The unused boneripper heads
are used on the reversed torso, with the carapace reworked.

Last but not least, I have mentioned that I have made RC tanks before
well I decided that the skaven deserved something in their arsenal.
So again falling back on the start collecting box for the warp lightning
cannon and the plague furnace kits, plus some RC gubbinz and we have
An articulated mobile artillery tank.

Im going to capture some video of it trundling around on a table soon

As usual there will be more to come,
as necrons have entered the fray...
