So I feel as if I am almost back into the swing of things with my Tsons and am now looking to expand upon my Black Legion and Red Corsair warbands. I have seen on 1d4chan (i know :( ) that there are rules for the BL and several Renegade Marine chapters such as the Purged and Red Corsairs but I cannot find what book(s) they come from. Also, what book has the chaos specialist detachment rules? I thought they were cleaning up the needing 6 books to play your faction thing? Thank you in advance for if you answer this trivial question.

Oh yeah. 8e. New leaf. Clean up all the bloat. Only one book to play your faction again. Worked out really well for all of us.

The newest CSM Codex should have the Black Legion and Red Corsairs army-wide rule, unique stratagem, relic, warlord trait, etc. along with a couple of new units and updated Obliterators and things. Vigilus Ablaze has the new units that are also in the new CSM book, and is where you go for the specialist detachment rules. The Black Legion/Red Corsairs haven't gotten a box of new stratagems/warlord traits/etc. out of Psychic Awakening to date but you can use the Daemon Weapons in Faith and Fury.

I'd suggest skipping Vigilus, the specialist detachments felt like a beta-experiment that didn't really take off and nobody really uses, and Faith and Fury's Daemon Weapons are nice but optional. Unless you're in a completionist mood you should be fine with just the Codex.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The various Renegade Chapters have rules in the Vigilus Ablaze supplement.

Each one gets an army trait, a Warlord trait, a Stratagem and a relic. It's not a huge amount, but I've not made anything but Red Corsair lists since.

Argh, thbbbt. Can confirm, just double-checked and they reprinted the new units from Vigilus Ablaze in the newest CSM Codex but they didn't reprint the Renegade Chapters tactics/WT/stratagems/relics. You will need both for a Red Corsairs force.

Anomander rake is wrong. Vigilius ablaze has additional black legion and renegade rules not found in the core codex.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
