Question - In these strange days, is there anyone backing any Kickstarter Projects right now?

Haven't backed any new ones (though I'm waiting on quite a few to ship - all delayed of course) but I don't really see how it make any difference.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

I'm not backing anything new until all of this is over. I can't afford to.

Then you're lucky. A lot of people now have no job, or a reduced income, which makes non essential purchases difficult to impossible.

Yes, several. Still working full hours, still planning armies, and still adding stuff to my collection.

Eventually things will resume. The world will change, we will have new habits/fears/goals, but my love of miniatures is unlikely to diminish.

I’ve put in a dollar pledge here and there. Often I don’t end up adding more in The pledge manager, but we’ll see.

I've got one (non-gaming related) decorative item that just shipped & is making it's typical slow progress towards me.
I've backed other things from this creator & things always bog down passing through various customs & carrier switches. And I'm sure the current madness is only adding to that. But all the info shows it's been shipped. So I presume it'll get to me.

I've got two more that're making slow progress towards completion. They each ran into snafus well before all this, but I'm sure the current situation is not helping either of them. I don't expect either of them to fail though.

I'm unlikely to back anything new though until things settle back to some kind of normal.
Not because I'm worried about spending the $, but because the current environment just adds a further risk of failure.

Maybe, I've got to be more careful at the moment, but I wouldn't rule out backing the right project but i'd probably invest less

And i'd be happy to pledge for the proverbial $1 to get into pledge managers of larger projects

I think spending in general is going to be down across the globe for a while. Too many people are currently in a state of uncertainty with their finances. Personally, I probably won't be backing any Kickstarters for a while, mainly for financial reasons but also because I think the current situation just adds to the risks of failure for any given Kickstarter.

I am holding onto my money as I expect a bit coronacession and I would rather save for that rainy day than get a few sprinkles of sugar now.

I’m out of work and my wife has been laid off.
At less than half our income, I won’t be backing anything for a long while. At least not more than $1 for PM access.
I have Return to Dark Tower shipping to pay for, and four KS’s I backed last year are now delayed.
I tossed a buck into Frosthaven just in case things return to normal sooner rather then later. If Ankh launches on schedule I’ll toss $1 at that too.
It all depends on how long it takes to get back to normal income levels, and how badly the Canadian dollar can tank during that time. In the meantime I’ll continue to window shop and admire the shinies from afar.

Backing big would be a huge error. You might have your job now, which means either work at home (which could dry up, depending on tasks and efficiency), or essential work, which is begging to catch the virus and lose hours from sick time and possibly worse. Yeah, no thanks on backing stuff. I’m lucky, I’m on paternity leave until June so I have govt income, but if I didn’t I would have been furloughed at work. So no; Kickstarter won’t see a dime from me. My FLGS that is doing curbside pickup is the only place that will when I run out of more essential paints (already got gold, white, zandri dust and medium thus far).

I’ve felt burned on the last 2 kick starters I backed (both video games, Shenmue 3 and Bloodstaind) and am still waiting on another I backed 5 years ago. With job security at an all time low, it’d have have to be a hell of a kickstarter for me to back it.

My finances haven't changed currently, but I haven't done a Kickstarter in quite some time. I'm over the $150+ mega Kickstarter thing, unless it happens to be one of my prime interests.

Would I hesitate to back a $59 "book" Kickstarter or something? Probably not.

Having become accustomed to KS delays, I tend to pledge and forget about it. I put in my folks' address (in case it becomes years and I move), and then I just get a surprise phone call that a box showed up.

If the current situation delays stuff longer, it wouldn't be any different than a dozen other KS projects which went from 6 months to 4 years, etc.

I would be rather wary of KS though at the moment. A lot of people are being laid off, and it would exceptionally easy to throw out a KS promise with some nice 3D renders just to cover your own bills for 5-6 months, etc...and never actually deliver anything, or extremely under-deliver. So, as mentioned above, small no-nothing startups? Not likely.

They'll take a hit thats for sure,

but as a listed company they've got other issues to stay on top of and they may feel that getting the campaign out on time and some money in is better than delaying and disappointing investors in a very volatile stock market situation

plus we don't know what commitments they've made to get the loan(s?) they've taken out, a set number of projects per year may be mandatory

If I saw anything I wanted, I would.

Money's good right now despite being on sick leave pay (which is -20% here). Job is secure, I'm not eating out and I don't believe in shifting risk from myself to a chain of delivery boys, so I cut mail ordering (and therefore all hobby spending) entirely for the time being, so my hobby money is just piling up.

Kinda not-so-assuring reading about a possible resurgence of infections in China with the relaxation of the lockdown in Wuhan. China's always been "Everything is fine until it isn't", and I doubt this crisis is helping. I already have too many plastic-injected miniatures, so am in no hurry to buy more. Backed metal miniature and resin miniature KS, such as Tiny Furniture's "Harvest of War", which hopefully can be made locally. Of course, if a key member of these small operations goes under, there goes the pledge. Maybe a feelgood excuse to pledge is that this may help out the creator's financial situation, especially if they can't rely on their day job.

Still, the amount of money I spend on KS is much less than what we've been spending at Walmart, Amazon, and Safeway.com. I think we have twice or three times as much food as we usually stock because of shortages, trying to reach free shipping, and general uncertainty. I've also lost much more money on the market, although my stock strategy of being too sick during November and December to invest and then put away holiday ornaments in January seemed to have paid off.
