Hey dakka, got another of those stripping threads for ya. I have searched and can't seem to find any info on this, but I'm planning in the near future to strip some old space marine vehicles, which are both hollow and not watertight sealed. For some models like my razorback this is fine because the door opens and I can get in to scrub the interior.

For others though, like my predator, land raider crusader, etc, they are glued shut but have holes for the weapons where dettol, paint goop, and the like can get in but I can't access to scrub.

Has anyone any advice or experience with this issue and got advice?

If the vehicle is glued shut, why would you need to scrub the insides?

Just scrub the outside paint and rince the insides.

Its more a case of smelly chemicals or gunk being stuck in there. Particularly eith dettol, you cant rinse with water straight up because it turns the paint juice into a stick residue that's almost impossible to remove. I'm concerned about it leaking out on a finished paintjob, another mini in the carry case or just stinking of cleaning products in general

Maybe use a different chemical to strip with than. Haven't had an issue with Simple Green leaving my stuff smelly after a basic rinse.

Clean with Isopropyl only and then rinse it all with water after you're done. Isopropyl doesn't leave residue and is what you should be using to strip anyway

I use meths/ purple spirit to strip everything, main ingredient is isopropyl alcohol and is odorless when washed away

I had this problem and it sucks, what i typically do if after i dip them I submerge them in soapy hot watter for 5 minute, drain that, fill up more water and repeat, kinda works.

My major issue with using different products is the safety of the models. My schedule is really all over the place and I rarely get the few hours on a saturday to strip when I would like to*, and I've been known to leave models in way longer than I think either Iso Alco or Simple green can do. Like, I had some terminators from 2009 in there for a good 7 months. I like using dettol because I can get a hold of it easily and I don't run the risk of my OG models being damaged.

Other issue is price, as I need a good 10 litres to fill my container. Stupid Stormraven!

*Even with the current Covid-19 lockdown, shamefully :(

Glad to know I'm not the only one! Did you have any problems with warping or anything when you did that?

All I do is strip them like normal but once done I soak it in a bath of fresh water over night.

Just leave it to dry naturally and that will kill off any chemicals that were there.
