Yup, had a boys' day in the house, a morning of xwing and an afternoon learning DCU.

For the morning slot, my younger boy and I teamed up as Rebels, or rather the Resistance (him with Rey and Finn in the Falcon, me with Poe and BB8 in Poe's T70) Vs elder flying Bounty Hunting Scum (IG88-B in his Aggressor, a Z95 headhunter, and Manaroo & Dengar in a Jumpmaster).

There was an awful lot of fancy flying. All credit to the boys, they have really got a handle on those ships.

Me, on the other hand ? Got blown to pieces by bounty hunters chasing me round the board. Bloody Dengar. Not used to Poe at all, squandered chances, forgot to always keep a focus on him and that jumpmasters are crazy fast. Still, now the youngling knows how not to fly him, so it's all good, right?

It was a very close game, my eldest looked to have the Falcon dead to rights but a rushed turn bumped both big ships into asteroids, equalling costly hull damage which led to a 2 turn takedown by the Force Awakens super team. He didn't quit, though, and that last, tiny Z95 ducked and wove its way around, getting the Falcon down to its last hull point before finally sliding into Rey's sights.

An excellent game, and the boys both now have lists that they want to keep using and tinker with, which to my mind shows proper engagement with a game. 2 1/2 hrs well spent.

The afternoon was set aside for DC.

Now I did think we might be pressed for time, but we played a game in an hour - and that's them never having played before :O honestly it's such an intuitive, logical game, it rather puts BMG (and many others) to shame.

Now granted we were playing a small game Aquaman & Supergirl (them) vs SuperLex and Catwoman, but still. I also learned valuable lessons: Catwoman is absolutely phenomenal, and is potentially auto-include for Villain lists (or any hero list with Batman, whom she can be run with) - very cheap, and a total nuisance. She came very close to taking out Supergirl (who threw her off a building, in fact).

Lex is pretty squishy - powerful but not great defences. Supergirl is a poor man's Super...man but still great, whereas Aquaman feels very pricey - yes, he can teleport between water terrain features (which he can create), but it's still very situational, and his attacks are very expensive to use - good, but expensive.
They loved it, naturally. Fast, fluffy and fun. Both keen to test the same supers, and expand further. I expect the future will be... batty.

Cheers for swinging by,
Graven

Oh!
Also, this bi-month's Tabletop Gaming magazine comes with a card for Michonne for All Out War, so...

Those survivors from Cam are really proving their worth! Why buy when you can build, eh? Drilling tiny holes in tiny hands for tiny sharp brass less fun. Thinking a chain for the left hand? Still needs a scabard also. Thoughts?

Not as yet. Only promo/kickstarter version of Michonne exists just now. Possibly when we get her full rules later in the year.

Like my wallet, into another dimension also.

Yeah, Kid 1 is REALLY getting the taste for scum he's 10 in November so I think I'm going to get him Most Wanted. We've got Zs, Ys, firespray, and hwk-290 as well so there's plenty o'choice there for him. He likes the look of the starviper, I know it's about to get a boost too with the new Aces so that's a maybe.

Not got much more p&m done BUT got a great game of BMG last night.
Small game, 200, testing the bones of 350 tournament list.

Took Arkham Knight penguin and his new goons against my pal's regular Penguin list. New Penguin is... different. More finesse, better board control (his Goad ability allows him to move an enemy 5cm, and he can give the ability to a goon too) but less damage output. New goons are quicker, though more costly.

It went well. Very well. He's not better per se but he suits my style of play (devious)

Setup was a plunder mission, not ideal for how I planned to run the list but a better test because of that.

Turn 1 - some weak setup left me with the limited run lines, so had to juggle a bit but still made it fair way into the board. Got Penguin in the sewers, which would usually be used to get him quickly to the back of the board but here was for another reason entirely...

Fun with the filters

Halfway through - T3

Took a big gamble and really exposed Big A, my hard as nails lieutenant. He just survived an assault rifle, and drew a lot of goons out, allowing the rest of my guys to start picking the enemy crew apart.

Now AK Penguin has pickpocket, which allows you take stuff from KO'd enemies - popped out the sewer, scored a shotgun and used it to take down his doppavpelganger

Endgame: got to sit on Ammo and feel smug.

Great game with a very gracious opponent, all in all.

Got a great review package from Multiverse. Hydrants and Phone Booths, 2 sets of super computers (1 for me, 1 for giveaway), and a set of their modular platforms. Goodies ahoy!

On we go, back to school, Friday

Cheers y'all

Thanks mate. Scottish schools go back 3 weeks earlier than english but we did break up at the end of June . Hard life. Nearly 7 weeks off.
WIP of a little something I've been working on:

Heath Ledger body,Spartan's head, green stuff for the rest. Getting there.

Good day to end the holidays. Played a tricky walking dead scenario with the boys, which we got through with some careful teamwork, using characters they had designed and started painting. On the other hand, I managed to shut the car boot on my head so got a cracking gash. bit of an extreme way to try to avoid work but never mind eh?

My wife and kids have their first days back starting this coming Wednesday. While I feel sorry for them they all need their routine back and I need to get back to mine.

So, a couple of mighty packages awaiting me on my return home from first day back at work, one from Multiverse Gaming terrain and one from Red Beam designs.

First up, Red Beam:
The tokens are in the excellent thick acrylic you'd expect from Red Beam, and definitely enhance the play experience.

I like having tokens for being prone. Call me fussy, but I just don't like putting models on their sides. Also, if - Shock Horror - you were using alternate metal figures from another supplier (as a custom character, of course...) then you definitely don't want to risk chipping the paint. The rulers are nifty, allowing precise measurements with being cut to base size and skinny profile.
In addition, they've put together a rather nice play tray for organising your cards, available in MDF or acrylic.

A caveat here: if, like me, you've sleeved your cards in UltraPro mini sleeves (beloved of Xwing players), they are fractionally longer than the spaces, as you can see from the pic. It's not necessarily a bad thing - makes them very easy to pick up if you need to discard/use an item - but won't be to everyone's taste.

And what would Walking Dead be without a killzone, I ask you? One arm short of a Zombie, that's what.

I love this variant killzone token, really Handy (sorrynotsorry), and there is a ruler with base cutout variant also.

So there you go, affordable, stylish extras that are well worth a look.

I also got some really nice terrain elements from Multiverse, but I need to build them first.

I did however, make some progress on Diggle.

And a start on the big blue, Superman (Kingdom Come variant )

Need to do the skin and hair. Pretty happy with reds and blues. It's similar to how I did Lex but top layers were done with vj model airs also. Very thin, yet relatively viscous (sorry if that sounds contradictory) - very nice indeed to use.

Some other odds and ends. Survivors for walking dead:

The two up on the 60mm base are my eldest attempting his first proper minis, built and painted. He's very excited

Working on the Quick Response. Dribs and drabs. Camo wash on the body armour next.

And the Prison Bus is starting to take shape also (and, yes, that is classic Lex in the background - no superheroics here).

Merily we roll along,
Cheers,
Graven

So here is a finished/better pic of Supes. Not sure it does justice to the cape but you've all seen that already

Well, not an official one, but I see what you mean. And many thanks!

Not had much hobby time, just getting back into the swing of things at work, but have decent classes including very peppy senior Media class which I'm reallllllllly stoked for. It's great when an afternoon can be usefully spent watching the opening scenes to Lost, Breaking Bad, Daredevil, The Newsroom, Rick& Morty, Lucifer, Orphan Black, Stranger Things and The Wire I love my job sometimes

Still, making progress on Lex. Taking my time, lots of thin layers. Unusually for me, I decided to document the process step at a time.

Excited about 2nd edition Batman, and the move to resin minis. Streamlined rules and easier conversions? I'm in.

Happily, a friend who is working at GenCon has picked me up the exclusive Batmite promo also, which is awesomesauce. I'm not a huge fan of the character, but my kids are, and he's beyond crazy good in both BMG (though as a Legend not legal outside of friendly play) and DCUMG (Danger, potential game-breaking promo alert )

Still got multiverse scenics to do...
