I'm not even going to bother to try and secure a copy of this it will be gone instantly GW have killed any hope and interest I had in this edition with this new constant limited box release. They sell out instantly and all it does is make people angry and want to quit the hobby. Putting over 70 exclusive models into a limited box run is absolute madness. 40k died for me when they announced this. They dont care about their customers just price gouging and generating massive hype for things that sell out in five minutes. A disgrace.

thanks for the vent. Would Hasbro's Secret Lair Strategy work better? Take any number of orders for a day or two and then fulfill them afterwards?

There seems to be a lot of misinformation about the nature of the box. It's not limited edition in the same sense as their other limited edition boxes and books and this was covered on the stream on Saturday. It's just not going to be a set you can buy for the whole edition's life, like the current Dark Imperium box. There's no way GW will not have enough of these boxes available to get them through at least until Christmas. I suspect they'll last even longer than that.

... you know that the box isn't limited? As in, it will be stocked in pretty much every GW, FLGS, and webstore in time? It's like Dark Imperium - which hasn't run out.

There isn't a single factual point in all of that.
But hey, if it stops you complaining, by all means, let 40k die for you. I'll still be around.

The models aren't exclusive. They'll be available in various other places, just not with as big a discount.

I can gurantee this wont be in flagships and if you think these models will be available this year outside this box set you are going to be very disappointed. Look at every limited box run Gw has produced they've sold out within minutes apart from that trash elder box. This will sell out immediately. Mark my words.

Comen Icegoat... i almost quit 40k when i saw the new primaris powerwheels gocart, but hang in there, i think this edition will actually be quite good. Unless if you like being a static gunline player, well... good riddance.

Do we know this? Obviously many of them will be available eventually (especially the Primaris stuff), but several YEARS later, there are still items like the NBB that are only available inside Dark Imperium, or via eBay, bits sellers, etc.

For all intents and purposes the contents are exclusive to this box for at least the rest of 2020 and into 2021. The aos box heroes from the past two years say hello. People clearly have to much faith in GW I'm going to enjoy the rage when this sells out by 10.05 the day it goes live.

You are painfully negative. Why are you still putting yourself through the torment of still being involved in 40K?

I mean, your very first post on here was whinging about how neglected Necrons are. Now they're the big bad of the new edition and are bundled in the starter set with some great new models - but you've not said anything positive about that, just gone straight to whinging about how there's no point even trying to buy the starter set.

Seriously, get a grip.

Not as disappointed as you'll be when every word of this is proven wrong.

This will be exactly like Dark Imperium. If you're seeing places stocking DI, you'll see them stocking this in it's place the moment it becomes available.
Look at every limited box run Gw has produced they've sold out within minutes apart from that trash elder box. This will sell out immediately. Mark my words.
This isn't a limited run box. Where on EARTH are you getting that delusion from?

This is the new core box. It will be stocked for at least several years.

But hey, you seem like the kind of person who ignores facts if only to justify complaining - in which case, just hurry up and leave already. It'll do you good.

I'd be willing to guess that some of the character sculpts will be unique to this box, but all the unit sculpts will see their own box kits. Necron Warriors definitely will, as will things like the Skorpehk units.

But, more to the point, this box set won't be exclusive.

You simply do not want to miss out on this amazing set, so it’s important to mention that, as it’s a special launch box to celebrate the new edition, it won’t be around forever.

Gw disagrees with you.

However difference in actual starter set(this misses some typical starter stuff like measure tape) is likely rulebook. Rather than limited ed special hardcover less special one, no special dice etc. So models will be available in starter set later.

GW explicitly and specifically stated on stream that this is a limited time only box that WILL NOT be around for the life of the edition the way Dark Imperium is/was

BUT

GW was pretty clear in saying that the box set had one of the single largest print runs they have ever done for any product ever and that they've printed several times more copies of it than they have for any previous limited release item, and they expect that the box set will be on the shelves for at least a few months before its completely gone.

Yeah, the box is a Limited Edition, similar to the SoB box. It has a LE BRB inside, too.
You'll be able to buy the models as full kits for sure - timing is the question, just like with the SoB box.
The one thing I think will be different for sure is that there will be a regular edition of the BRB for sale right away.

The good thing you can take away from this is that it's very likely that there will be another box later on, the actual starter box that's meant to replace Dark Imperium.
The bad thing is how much GW underestimated demand for the Sisters box.

In the Stream I think they stated that anyone who wants one can get one, even if they have to print more. However, they also stated that it would not be indefinite - thus it might only be available for 6-8 weeks. So long as you get your order in the first few weeks you should be fine; if you don't then, I guess it's too expensive or your not that interested.

Ah - in which case, I hold my hands up, I was mistaken. My apologies, however, I still feel that OP's reaction is incredibly disproportionate for many reasons.

I don't think it'll sell out as quickly as some people are saying. I think there should be enough to go around - and, as I assume Icegoat is a Necron player, there seems to be rather a lot of Space Marine players looking to split the box out there. If anything, it's a great opportunity for Necron players, as there'll be a surplus of Marine players wanting to sell off Necrons they don't want.

BUT

Quite likely. Weren't the SOB Army Boxes limited too? I'm still seeing them in stores.

Better to call it a semi-limited box, I think.

It gets a limited run as-is.

Later, the hardback is pulled out for either a normal hardback or, most likely, a standard-edition softcover. Dice and the like are added in for new players.

One set of the special characters is removed … probably the Lord with the time arrow and the Justicar with the temporal hourglass.

There may be a teensy price drop at that time.

That new version will be the one that remains on sale for the entire edition.

I wonder how long they will last, My store closed, so a lot of people won't be able to get the 9th stuff till someone opens a new store, and this probably won't happen till september.

Is going to be hard to learn how to play without a rule book.

Same for Germany - sold out within an hour even if you include the various English and German online stores.
One of the German online stores even went around during the lockdown and picked up boxes from purely brick&mortar stores to resell them online, I don't think he found a single SoB box set.

Don't worry, GW will dangle the new shiny and everyone will forget how they are gouging everyone in the middle of a global pandemic... Y'all a bunch of addicts.

You realize we're talking about preorders being sold out immediately, right? And yes, just like I did with the SoB box, I'll preorder this box set as well - but to make sure I get one I'll be sitting in front of my computer and wait for the preorders to come online. Not a hardship, but it's still annoying that GW plays the "limited editions are so great" game at all.
