Flower Picking Eldar Youth

Russia, Komsomolsk-na-Amure

Greetings there. I'm NyanCommissar, and I got very ambitious things to make real.

So what will you expect to see? My answer is that you'll see here:
  • Lost opportunities of Dawn of War miniaturiazation in all cases;

  • Cadian 412th miniatures appeared first in the Internet;

  • Big Eldar army I've been expanding since December 2011;

  • And its very special features like customised sergeants and leaders and old metal miniatures revised for certain purposes (magnetizing or modern rules standards);

  • Failed attempts to mimic existing camouflages like Soviet TTsKO or Russian Partizan.

  • Hope you'd be happy. Please, check my gallery for further stuff:

    --- --- --- --- ---

    At least, they're first 412s in their original camo in the Internet.

    The story is simple. In the Internet I didn't see any Cadian 412th stuff. Yes, Lord Commissar Garcia kinda has them, but they even don't have proper camouflage stuff.

    The painting of them is actually easy. I don't even know what base was, so it should be dark browny washed stuff. And go the layers of gray colours mixed with a small amount of yellow - small enough not to get armour colour tone too yellowy. To compare to old Citadel Paint Rotting Flesh, the final highlight should be more pale. Camo is a mix of dark brown base with not-so-yellowy gray spots, however some of Karkins have some netty pattern of Vallejo Leather Brown upon camo. I just tried to mimic Soviet TTsKO (VSR-84) pattern and I failed, in my opinion. But still, Kasrkins look very Cadian 412th-ty.

    The other techniques were valid to Kasrkins as well. So, the metal darkened through mix of Nuln Oil and Abaddon Black, the redder flamethrower artifact, feet covered in early spring dirt, and so on.

    Nice. They are some of my favorite models. Wish there were good modern equivalents. I've only got one squad.

    Been tempted by some 3rd party Heavy Armour minis to reproduce the look.

    Nice painting too.

    Nice work. I regret never picking some of these up in the day.
    What kind of base are you going to do?

    The base is actually a drybrush of black basecoat with brown thing. But most of Kasrkins have green drybrush (initially those must have the greener TTsKO pattern and Russian EMR even on carapace armor, but I changed my mind). It doesnt make sense at all, so I have the better advice for base colour.

    You see Polaris Empire Light Assault Troopers and Clone Infantry of Bronepehota miniature game by Tehnolog. I tested some paint on them. White basecoat is a bad idea - because the paint could get down, leaving the clean white primer spots. So I use varnish after every final highlites on own miniatures (I got a big Eldar army). The base colour is, as I remember, a mix of Vallejo Game Air Leather Brown, Black and Cold Grey. I'm not entirely sure I remember proportions, so, you should make dirty dark brown base colour. That's it.

    I certainly know what bases Kasrkins mostly need. They need some spring dirt terrain, because of bein located on Lorn V. So I can experiment with white glue and soda powder.

    Defiled Fire Prism Restoration - Prologue

    I badly needed those old but still good Fire Prism bitz. Actually I wanted to use them for old Eldar Wraithlord to retrofit to actual Wraithlord rules. Hoped that Fire Prism energiser could be the perfect component for wristblade for longshanky monstrous fisting creature.

    But then I finally got Fire Prism. Looking at the bitz, I realized that there was kind of false expectations. This cannot be fitted eved as bulky fisting hands of old Wraithlord. Maybe, somewhen I can copy these rare bitz for Wraithlord in future, I thought. And I looked at the entire tank.

    You can be shocked, but this is the Eldar Fire Prism Grav Tank I have for 17 dollars.
    Spoiler:

    Some creep did bad thing to this grav tank. He defiled violently, as you can expect. However, it's not that creepy. The tank is actually CAN BE restored. But I can summarize all the damage caused by creepy mook who took this model to my future seller:
  • Eldar tank crewman body lost;

  • The bottom of tank is fully fused with plastic glue, so the hole for plastic base lost;

  • Typical Eldar pole antennaes lost;

  • Fire Prism sensors and probe lost;

  • Spirit Stones details lost;

  • ENGINES LOST;

  • The Creep did not even took to future seller even Falcon turret plastic sprues (we'll be talking about that later).

  • But I'm glad that the Creep didn't even harm Fire Prism badly. Actually, the essential details of the tank are in good conditions. No jokes, even canopies were not defiled, just painted

    So I'll begin the series of posts I'm telling about how old good Eldar Fire Prism Grav Tank is RESTORED! This is the story of hard-working man that has father's tools, some Green Stuff, brass and aluminium rods and heart to bring poor tank back to the Eldar warhost.

    NyanCommissar,

    I have some of the old resin parts for the rear of a FW Wave Serpent that could help build another back-end of one of those tanks (looks like you built one from plastic card).

    Nice work adding those plastic jewels to repair holes and other damage.

    Cheers,

    Defiled Fire Prism Restoration - Part I - Removing Great Enemy

    The most inconvenient thing on Defiled Fire Prism is the crystals. They're too fragile, they're everywhere, and I think the Creep wanted to show Chaos warped spirit stones, I don't know.

    Don't ever use pliers to remove metal bitz. Or you will spoil theirs details, logically. So, if you want to separate pieces, use the hammer. Seriously, the seismic impact matters, and hammer lets metal pieces collapse from each other.

    The bitz are nice, licensed GW ones, though the Creep destroyed spirit stones details. And I feel no inconvenience for I have green stuff and especially old & good Eldar & Dark Eldar Collectors Guide scan just to know the details of bitz I own.
    Spoiler:

    Heretical things are removed as well. I see that CSM pauldron and Imperial Guardsmen legs and torso could be useful. Moreover, in future I realized that the plastic bitz are light gray colored. This suspects that the sadistic decision the Creep did was in 4th Edition times. Remember the times of Dawn of War OG series? So, this is the era.
    Spoiler:

    I quite enjoy having those bulky and heavy metal bitz for assembling the powerful tank. I could dance with them like the person with nuggets.
    Spoiler:

    Spoiler:

    Should I eat metal crystal halves from Fire Prism energiser?

    I could save them disassembled and sleep with, if I didn't realize that the second Fire Prism is always a great idea. Linked Fire stratagem, and other improvements. This motivated me to RESTORE FIRE PRISM, GIVING IT BACK TO BIEL-TAN WARHOST!
    Spoiler:

    Defiled Fire Prism Restoration - Part II - Eldar 1999 Recipes

    Spoiler:

    I don't know why, but I decided at the same time assemble the third Wave Serpent using the initial practices of plasticard work. I would not lie saying that I actually like some ideas from Epic 40k model and I don't totally understand why so great ace miniature designers refused making the Wave Serpent's mandalory feature - the force field crystal. Maybe, they were not Farseery enough to predict that in 6th Edition (God awful it is) this transport can shoot energy ... from non-existing force field generator crystal. Now it's 2020, I know everything, so I can fix this mistake, but I describe it later.

    Having White Dwarf US #238 scan isn't so helpful because of being digital. For scratching plasticard details I used a ruler, a protractor, a pencil pen just to draw up shapes from digital page scaled to proper size. Of course, the shapes became not as perfect I expected, so i glued additional plasticard details to fit to plastic details better. And I enjoyed plasticard work so much that I made details on the floor of passengers compartment using basic Tamiya file kit. It helped me a lot in conversion, so it becomes the essential tool in conversions.
    Spoiler:

    Say, I glued these plastic details on the wrong side of this detail of passengers compartment. LOL

    I always like the simple shape of first Wave Serpent weapon modules - they're just SPOONS. And beneath the spoon lies a stick that lets a pair of heavy weapons being attached. And I wanted the special stick under the spoon. It is made using the plastic pen refill. This 3 mm thing suites something 2 mm inside with no harm (though you should expand the hole using a real electric drill). I put 2 mm magneto disks, but it was too weak to hold bright lances. So, I added 5mm disks on both sides of the stick just for reliably sticking the magnetized weapons.

    This is a blutac test, I think. I don't remember, the unusual antennae pole was added before gluing the weapon module or after.
    Spoiler:

    Next time I'll tell you about Fire Prism turret restoration. It's the thing, because Andrew Hicks advices of assembling Fire Prism are actually very useful. During making Wave Serpent conversion thing, the tank hull and turret became clean, thanks to DOT-4 hydraulic fluid.

    Thank you for replying, Captain Brown.

    The jewels are actually rare for reasons. I don't understand why so many stores prefer tearshaped rhinestones rather than oval shaped ones. This made all my Eldar conversions a bit difficult before.
