So I've been collecting Primaris Marines through chance purchases and such, and now with Indomitus I feel it's time to paint them.
I've gone through several ideas and themes but nothing quite sticks like the idea of a bunch of Mongol Marines hunting the foe. The problem i run into is replicating or creating a color scheme that works, or finding bits to make them look even better.
On the color scheme front I wanted to do a leather base, iron on some of the armour plates, and red under-armor and accents, but it's rather lacking, so I've come here for help.
And for bits I know the HH White Scars have some interesting kits but they don't really gel with primaris.
Any help on either aspect would help enormously, thanks for reading

I would take a different approach. Instead of top knots and fur coats, Id go modern.
Best example is the Yakuza gangs - You have a modern group of characters with very strong and deep connection to the culture and the history!
So think of Mongols same way, you have high-tech advanced characters with same strong connection to culture and history.
Good inspiration for that modern/culture is HU
And Starwars, and how cultureal costumes are done in scifi environment. Mongolian wedding dress for example

I have seen a decent conversion replacing the Marine shoulder pads with Tau shoulder pads. For heads they used green stuff to fill in the back of the helmets with a neck covering and used a pin to score simple plate shapes in it.
I did mine with big ogre arms and Greenstuff mongol helmets and chaos warrior cloaks. The greenstuff on the helmets was dead simple. If interested ask and I'll give a brief tutorial. Note, i do not claim to be an expert...
I love the idea! I think you could play them off the Space Wolf Codex, and have some great "counts as" characters.
You could try to make count's as thunderwolves to have cavalry into this.
I think a couple of re-occuring things sprinkled across units would be great:
Flags (but the tall rectangles, not a normal flag)
Wooden Shields instead of storm shields
Trying to find some mongolian inspired swords and pikes (some links on this thread seem to show interesting bits for this.
Once I get a non broken camera I might start up a P&M blog for this and other projects
UPDATE: Alright, I ordered the flak tassets and the scale shoulders. Also got the Puppets war dragon helmets and Dadao swords because they're thematic and look really good.
Now to scrounge for pelts and such
