Hello all,

Next on my pile of shame is this Predator I bought an STL for in August 2019. Pretty snappy work for me.

Spoiler:

The STL was purchased from Gambody, and I printed it on a Photon S resin printer (yes, in August 2019, it sat around for most of a year already printed). Most of it is hollow. I forgot to weigh it before setting it on the base (oops, cause someone always asks how much it weighs). It is roughly 9 inches/230mm tall based, which makes it about 1/8th scale, I think.

I guess I should mention, the throwing disc i designed myself. I really like the throwing disc, so I had to have it. I also wanted to do a whip but that was a little too tough for me to design, I think.

Spoiler:

Anyway, here are the rest of the pictures.

Spoiler:

The base was printed in PLA on my I3 Mega. I did water effects (a little sloppily, oops) atop the plastic.

Spoiler:

Paints were my usual mix of minitaire, GWS, and craft paint, depending. The airbrushes were a Patriot 105 Extreme for basic, a Sotar 2020 from fine work, and a Iwata CM-B for some shading on the head.

Spoiler:

Some definitely, unavoidable stepping lines on the rocks. I probably should have used printed a disc and built it up with slate instead.

Oh, you like it better withj a helmet? That's an option too.

Spoiler:

You know what would be twice as nice? Two of them.

Spoiler:

The one on the right is intentionally missing his wrist blades, I need to transport it because it's a gift for a friend, and I don't think they would survive the trip - gonna glue them on when it gets there.

Progress pic of the heads:

Spoiler:

You know what, lets go back a little further.

Coming off the plate:

Spoiler:

Cleaning it up (sorry one is a little blurry:

Spoiler:

Ready to prime. The globs of greenstuff on the head are plugs, since there are drain holes there.

Spoiler:

Primed/preshaded:

Spoiler:

Basecoating:

Spoiler:

and, just about done:

Spoiler:

I ran into some real challenges here. First, when the heads were done, and I hit them with dullcote, I had a spray sealer disaster! It was very humid. Painting the heads with gloss mostly fixed them, but I did have to manually re-paint some of the dreadlocks. I then painted on dullcoat from a bottle - I missed a spot in the forehead in that first picture, which i went back and fixed.

I also intended for them to be standing ankle deep in water clear resin with maybe some printed fish in there. A test of my resin was perfect - clear as could be and rock hard. When I tried doing it in prod, the resin foamed up and turned white. Figures. Yes, I am using a pressure pot.

I wound up having to remove the "mini" from the base, so - between you and me - one of those predators is missing a toe, which came off with the original base.

I have not yet been successful making a water clear diorama. I might replace my resin with fresh stuff and try again, on a different mini.

Anyway, thanks for looking!

The only appropriate response for the awesomeness that is your Predator:

Seriously well done, Ouze!

I posted this on facebook the other day, and I responded to every single comment with that gif, so I agree

The paint job looks like it could be life sized. That’s so far ahead of my drybrush-and-wash technique I don’t even have the vocabulary to critique/praise it properly.

Looks like it bleeds, and we can kill it.

Wowsers, that skin is amazing.

I’ve not worked with 3D printed minis, but the clean up from the raw product looks horrendous!

It's not as half as bad as it looks, i swear.

When it first comes out of the printer, it's covered in excess resin. You have to rinse it in isopropyl alcohol to clean it off. I use a heated ultrasonic cleaner. After 5 minutes, most of the supports peel cleanly off with only a little manual cleanup.

Wow, that looks incredible! Really well done, especially the mottling on the face.
