With the imminent arrival of a large amount of Tau on my doorstep I?ve been working on a new paint scheme.

Just to test it out I went and got myself a Crisis gave it a simple pose and painted it up.

Now, after viewing the new scheme I felt it lacked something, hence the banner. I like the design, but I?m not sure if that the right place for it. My original plan was to have it samurai, off the back, style. But now I?m not sure?

What do you think?

the one reason i didnt go with Tau (im a newbie btw) was cause their support looks so Robo/Battletech/Macross... i did see some Tau support guys that I really liked (in terms of the way they were painted) the guy went with browns and beiges - and made em look a bit battered/weathered - like they had been in heavy action - some las burns/scores and thick globs of mud on the feet, looked very cool IMHO

Then with the guys who can "cloak/chameleon" he painted them a much lighter brown - almost milky with green grass all blurry as if seen through them and then pasted with long strands of grass behind them on the base - looked very cool - like they were uncloaking in the grass... i thought a military brown or olive would look really cool - then mix it with some glowing blues or reds and white striping like you have there... - i like the "samurai" banner pose - long pole with small banner at the top

That pose, is akward...and I'm not too big a fan of the paint job either...looks a bit thick in places, what brand paint did you use?

I agree, the pose is awkward ? also its citadel and the photo does make look thicker. But yes you may be right in some places.

i wasnt even going to mention the pose - seeing as how you said you just slapped it together... it looks kind of like someone snuck up behind him with a cattle prod and jammed it in his rearend...

I dont know, I was never a huge fan of the Samuri/Tau idea simply because Samuri ideals seemed so close quarters oriented but Tau are scared of getting blood on themselves. Thats why I always like the kroot. Kroot are savage and bloodthirsty but in a profoundly proud way. It just sucks that they made their individual army list so crappy x.x

Anyways, yes the paint seems alittle thick but thats okay because its a promo model. The scheme does work pretty well I suppose but you might want to regulate the whites to make them all the same color. The head seems dusty but the banners pure white while the blues highlighted with bone. You should do it all in one white maybe.
His banner makes him look like he is parasailing... not enough design for a banner, too much negitive space.

Over all I can't complain though I can't say I can think of a better tau color scheme

I find it weird that not a whole lot of people ever model Tau with broken up and battleworn armor and covered in blood and scars... Especally Farsight or Etherials. It would be cool to see Commander Farsight tearing a tyranid warrior in half with his blade, covered in blood with chunks of his armor cut up and wires spilling out. Aun,Va looks too much like the pope to be a fighter. Aun'Shi I will give to you just because he is a beast in his own right.

Anyways back to topic
