I've never painted tyranids but they seem fun to paint. There are no wrong colors for them apart from the metallic ones, and they more forgiving when it comes to details (it's all flesh and bone). Just pick a few colors that mesh nicely together, and drybrush away.

However, I don't think I would ever collect or play them. I prefer to collect armies made up of, you know, people. I like to imagine fluff for my army or even individual models, which is hard to do with 'Nids since they have no personality or motivations apart from "nom nom nom".

There's no real Warhammer scene in my town, so I don't play. I just paint whatever 40k models strike my fancy, though I stick mostly to Space Marines, both of the normal and Chaos variety. I do have a Hive Tyrant I've yet to paint, as it looks like a really fun model.

Every single miniature I've ever painted? But in the spirit of the question, I've always fancied a Napoleonic themed IG army. Wrote the fluff, designed the schemes etc. etc., just never had the funds or time to do them. Maybe one day

For me, probably Orks. Their playstyle doesn't really appeal to me, but I'd love to build and paint some of their vehicles. I think I wouldn't be a fan of painting 90+ Boyz though.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I disagree with your opinion that you can not paint them in metall. While you of course are 100% right to have that preferanse I did a test model. Painted it in bronce, washed him in a red and purple color. It turned out great. It was only a tes model. But it turned out quite similar to contrast painting metals, but with more pooling and coverage.

I think the Tiamet nids have diamond hard shells. Why not metal? I mean they eat planets. It is not exactly streaching the fiction part. I have included a NMM nids from pint rest.

There are already organism on earth who use metall if you want to go for a less sci-fi look. I present to you the humble scaly-foot snail. One of the few creatures that are magnetic.

As for playing nids I find it to be a lot of funn. Although since 9th edition came you play them as a shooting army. So the advertising is a bit mismatched.

As for me I would love to paint big bone creatures again. Like the bone dragon.

Not necessarily full armies, but certainly a few minis out there that I want to try my hand at one day. All of the greater daemons are up there, as well as a few of the older Warhammer Fantasy dragons.

Can't say I'm overly drawn to the idea of painting Orks generally but I can imagine it to be fun to do a speed freeks diorama...

Dark Eldar. I really like the models and the fluff, but their playstyle is not one I've ever been any good with, plus I'd be continually aggravated by how blatantly GW regards them as a niche NPC faction.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

Seeing as how they don't currently even have rules, I'd put Bretonnians right up there. I'm really hoping they make a comeback in the Old World, because they're the first army I'm picking up for sure.

You'd be surprised at how challenging KO actually is to play. On the surface, yea it's a "lets play keep away gunline" style army, but low model count in an objective based game where numbers matter, ludicrously short range on a lot of their firepower, and super fragile units (Ironclad notwithstanding) means you misposition once, or pick the wrong target, and you're in for a world of hurt! A lot of KO's game is played in the movement phase and is much more cerebral than a push and fight army.

Heck, I'd argue Lumineth play more like Tau than KO do. Teclis + Cathalar castled in between 2x20 Bowmen with a defensive line of Spearmen, all B2B for Shining Company nonsense.

While I enjoy painting, getting to play is what motivates me to do it, so this has never occured to me. Having said that, if I had to pick... I really like the look of that Slaughterpriest with the sword and morning star. But then I would probably try and find a way to field him in 40k...

A lot of factions both 40k and AoS really. That’s the problem!
I guess less about not interesting to play, rather too many to play to ever do them all.
(In my own rules, mustn’t start and more armies.. storage space has run out).
Underworlds solves a lot of this as somewhat does Kill Team, buying just a small amount without having to commit to an army.

Idoneth probably top of the list to want to paint if nothing else

Most of the AoS range. I love the over-the-top ridiculousness of the models, but have absolutely no interest in the setting or the game. Unfortunately, I also have no interest in paying their prices either, so they will likely remain something just to ogle.

Exactly this really.
Though I will remove “no interest in the setting” from it, as I’ve sort of come around to it from reading some of the Black Library stuff. Looking at just a particular area during a story than the widened ‘multi realm’ view helped a lot. (It’s no Old World, but still..)

I had one bloodbowl team that was entirely made of skeletons and one that was entirely made of zombies.

The zombie one was actually pretty effective once you got used to them. The skeletons sucked but it was funny to play them.
