Many hobbyists now use instagram highly as a means to share their current progress etc that is far easier, instant and more accessible than keeping a blog going on here for example (though the blogs are awesome, and I don't want them to go away as they are amazing for a more detailed discussion and description of activities)

I don't want to divert traffic from the forum, but would it be a problem to have a thread where hobby instagram accounts are shared? I'm not really doing it for a following as such, more of a case of finding accounts from blogs I find cool on this forum if the accounts happen to have them?

Asking here as I'm unsure if it is against the rules or would be against the etiquette of the forum.

Not seeing how this is against any rules, we have folks plugging their own off-site blogs, vlogs, channels, Facebook groups and what have you.

Would something like this be worth a sticky thread in Painting and Modelling? I follow a bunch of folks on Instagram that also blog here and in a way it makes things quite close-knit!

We tend to avoid stickies, as nobody really reads those.

Yes, while a sticky probably wouldn't be worth much, just starting a thread in P&M would be worthwhile.

If someone goes to the effort of making a thread for instagram accounts, i'd suggest just making it a catch all "Social Media" thread.

Plenty of people use facebook and twitter and other such sites to post their minis. Hell, even discord is really quite useful for hobby groups.

I would probably suggest not including Facebook, unless people are either -
- really, definitely ok with sharing personal details with strangers on the internet or
- use a 'hobby' account on FB that's separate to their personal account.

Odds on being able to talk the admin into adding Instagram as a profile option? Same idea as the thing to add a website, etc.

Sorry, yes. Should have specified a hobby facebook. I wouldn't share my private one either (if I had one).

Let’s not add Instagram or Facebook as profile options. Those places do enough snooping and tracking already. Don’t make it easier for them. If someone wants to share from either then they can add the link to their sig. See, Snrub has his Instagram in his sig. Learn from his wisdom. So does Tyranid Horde.
