Quick heads up before BL Celebration tomorrow, as what I have to share might cause frustration when trying to order.

GW seems to be migrating online accounts to a single Mywarhammer account. At the moment, it’s linked my GW and FW ids - but no Black Library so far as I can tell.

If you’re looking at ordering anything from tomorrow’s pre-orders, probably worth getting the linkage done today.

Yep just noticed. Also worth a note that whilst you can sign up and merge accounts (happens after you verify through your emai) you can't actually sign in right now. Which suggests the change is still ongoing.

NOTE you can only merge if your email is the same across the accounts. So use the same email for your My Warhammer as your other warhammer accounts so that you can merge across any details.


Note if you can't the only thing you'll lose is any account data like past orders and if you've got any registered and held credit in your account.

Just tried my BL account, and that’s logging in fine.

Might be worth trying again later in the day, just in case. Don’t want to run into issues tomorrow I might be able to deal with today.

It’s very Games Workshop to do something like this that might cause issues the day before they’re selling limited edition books and stuff.

There's going to be a lot gripe and angst tomorrow when this causes chaos

Also if you still use internet explorer the GW site is no longer working with it

(a pop up warning saying IE will soon not be supported won't close)

so if you need to move passwords etc across to another browser do so before the event

Thanks for the tip, Doc - definitely feels like poor timing on their part, and certainly something which should've had a WHC post to make people aware it was going on.

The community post should go up once its finished - otherwise their server would get hit like crazy and then support because its not finished.

I do agree the timing is really odd. You'd think they'd have done it earlier in the week or postponed it till after a weekend launch

This is precisely why I flagged it.

At the mo no linkage to Black Library, but a stitch in time saves nine!

The linking was available since yesterday afternoon, they had the site off-line yesterday morning. On the bright side, no more logging a second time whenever I want to check an order or wish list.

NO BL linking due to some tax / VAT law or somesuch on digital files being sold from the UK. It's also why they don't accept Paypal and why some other UK companies, like Crooked Dice, sell their digital books through Gumroad.

Thanks for the info Brook. Though I'm not sure why the VAT/Tax law should be a problem since sites like Amazon easily sell books and ebooks and physical products all through the same site.

Shouldn't be a huge issue though as most recent BL big events have sold through the main GW store itself.

amazon has regional sites(eg.com, .co.uk etc) which only sell ebooks to those in their own region (gift cards too can't be used cross sites)

I wonder, if everyone puts Lumineth and Gargants in their cart and then doesn't buy them right after the competition closes - I wonder if GW will take that as market interest but prices too high to generate sales?

Not doing anything with my cart until Sunday.

They have linked the Warhammer 40,000 app log in to the other 2.

I had to uninstall the app, so I could get to the log in screen to find that out.

For 3 days I was stuck on the splash screen as it tried to load... with no options to stop the action, no notifications to reinstall...

Struggling with login as well. Also can´t get a new password

Great, I love empty promises about things I can't even conceive of or care about. I had a functional account on a single storefront, and now that information is in an internet limbo with no warning and I've got to fork over information again if I want to use what was formerly functional.

That makes more sense to me than it should, actually. Especially here, where they've added a weather related shutdown to North America (Memphis also had a lot of ice and blackouts this week). Its basically a 'soft' request for something of a break from new orders, maybe in hopes of catching up some on the backlog.

Of course, if you really want to order something, you can, just remember to toss some junk in the cart afterwards. (Even one click something like Necromunda: Dark Uprising)


Edit: also what Eldarain said, plus people who forget to empty their cart before their next order. Because I'm that cynical about human behavior.

Or, fill your cart with your wish list goodies just before you go to bed on the 24th. As long as they're all in there for 8am GMT on the 25th, you're laughing kitbags.

An individual is free to shop and buy as many times as they want until then.

If you make an order that counts as an entry as well.

I can see it as a means to see what might be popular but isn't actually selling to people.

If they see lots of models of the same price/type/army in the list, but which aren't selling in large numbers with their sales data it can tell them that an army is popular in theory, but that its just not generating actual physical sales. This could be interpreted that prices are too steep on those models.


That said it might also just let them collate a huge block of user data to work out what models to push in future marketing drives. Eg every other person adds a Keeper of Secrets - GW now knows that if they market Keepers they are likely to make good sales.



It might also identify very unpopular forces. Eg if no one adds Fyreslayers then its telling GW that even "free" Fyreslayers aren't selling as they should. Again this might be interpreted with other data and taken in many ways.



Basically if GW harvests, analyses and interprets the data correctly then it can have great value to them looking forward. It's basically a soft consumer survey.

Granted because its possibly "free" GW might also have to factor in that people are adding dream stuff that they otherwise might not buy at all. So its not perfect data, but it is data.



Plus it also has a simpler purpose - it directly encourages people to sign up to the new website to fill their cart. Heck that might just be it. GW might not be looking to do anything else other than to drive people to use their store and sign up; thus letting GW market to them (emails) and also encouraging them to buy from the GW website as well.

Reading the competition terms I get the impression it doesn't matter at all what you add to your basket. You aren't trying to win that stuff specifically, it's just having something in the basket gets you entered or so does buying something during the time period (but you can only use one of the 2 methods).

However, the wording of the warhammer community article does then confuse things, as that does actually mention the basket and says you should fill it with stuff and you can "win your basket".
