There have been two threads locked in N&R due to “generating too many alerts.” These threads weren’t political or full of swearing and insults (that I saw), but they did have people discussing recasting and GW financial gripes. Are those topics that generate a lot of alerts? Felt to me like both of those threads were stopped while at their most interesting.

I have locked the threads so I could go through all alerts one at a time. Seeing as there were over a dozen alerts in both cases, I wanted to make sure any cleaning (if needed) was done and nothing more added to it before reopening. Nothing quite as annoying as trying to clean a mess that keeps on spreading.

I cannot comment on who reported what or why however.

Recasting inevitably ends up with someone rationalizing/advocating piracy. Which regardless of your stance, is explicitly a no-no here. And people get heated and nasty on both sides of it...

And if the other being referred to is the Cursed City discussion, it had run its course, I think. Unless GW says something about why its gone, or announces its return, nothing useful is produced by the wild speculation or bashing each other's opinions that was going on there.

One thing to consider is that often enough problem posts are not simply all problem. People can quite easily make a sane, rational component and a problematic one in the same post. The conversations can also criss cross over each other so you've got 2 people having an argument to a backdrop of 4 others debating the point with the 2 arguing dropping in and out of the debate etc....

If the thread is generating active posts then before you've had a chance ot catch up and sort things out; there's yet more posts!

Plus sometimes its hard to see where a complaint is - is a user being over sensitive; is a user using subtle insults; is there a cultural or language barrier so one person is saying something insulting but you can't see it but others can etc...

Locking is sometimes the best way to pause things and take stock.
