Looking for some technical know how. Someone has (hopefully with good intentions) setup a Discord for my Loot Group. No consulting the admins or anything, they’ve just gone ahead and done it.

Given they’re basically relying on my Private Group’s good standing in the community, is there anything I can do about this, such as asking Discord to take it down?

Well, he contacted me and doesn’t seem to get why we’ve got a grump on about it.

i think you should be able to talk to discord, since that would be against the will of the group at hand and rather questionable if i read you right?

Generally you can also make it clear to said person that no, that is not okay without asking beforehand and that you don't want to be associated with it.

I don't know, maybee coordinate with your group more as to how to proceed.

While it's not a terrible idea, it was done without the knowledge of the group and the people who run the group. They should have asked about it before doing anything.

I don't agree with the whole issue, but there you go: renamed the Discord. Which is "Exclusive Event Miniatures Sharing" btw. (Not allowed to post links; just created this account for responding to this topic.)

Rewritten the loot rules as well so this so that it's not your group's wording and removed the link to the (actually) great Facebook group. I owe a lot of cool minis to that group, no need to fight. Mad Doc, I highly regard that username from being a years-long Dakka reader.

I don't want to start the whole discussion again but the reasoning etc. can be read in the channel #general in category "Misc".

Don't forget to add the registered trademark/ copyright label to your group name and add a paragraph to your group's ethics: "Thou shalt have no other one before me". GW might wanna lend some lawyers in the end as well. Oh wait, you just need the internet army. Silly me, working in and having a company in tech to forget that.

Why me being bitter as well? Having been a long-term member of your group I was so infused about your group's ethics (as stated there) that silly me thought we all had a common goal in fighting back exclusive miniatures scalping and spreading hobby love. That everyone trying to build up on your good work was seen as a partner, not as a competitor. But it seems to be just that: competiton. That's just… Sigh.

You know what? Maybe you just won, I hate having tried to start a Facebook alternative in good will being fought against like this. Whether it's about a Facebook group name or not.

Dude, Mad Doc isn't a bad person just because they don't want confusion over which group is which, or people coming to them with problems in an area they have no authority over.

Flounce somewhere else.

Personal grievances should really be taken elsewhere.

Maybe it's not about competition, but not wanting to see the goodwill built up in the group devolve into bellyaching (like we're seeing here.)

Maybe take your personal gripes with Mad Doc into DMs? Putting this on display for the entire community just makes me think he was wise to assert some ownership over the name.
